13.01.2022 Funny what you find when you’re tidying up. I did a few Thai cooking courses while living in Bangkok hence I completed the Intensive Course and just the one Vietnamese when we visited Ho Chi Minh. Missing Thailand and Thai food. #freonutritionist #freonutrition #cookingisfun

11.01.2022 It’s that time of year when the weight loss ads come at us thick & fast. It’s NOT about weight loss and being skinny, you CAN be healthy at any size. With these weight loss programs you may lose weight in the short term, but restrictions and rigorous counting of calories or nutrients is not a long term solution, so the weight will creep back on. ... Think about how many times you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight, if it worked you wouldn’t need to keep making it. IT IS about making healthy changes for the long term, be that positive dietary changes, mindset changes, embracing more veg in your life, moving more.... Watch this space in January for - tips on making small changes that last and aren’t restrictive - Ideas to improve your diet without restrictions - Videos of cooking demos - Live streams - Ask anything sessions #freonutrition #freonutritionist #fremantle #cookingisfun #5aday

09.01.2022 Interesting results from PhD student Jennifer McCann at Deakin Uni highlighting the overpricing of food aimed at toddlers when they could easily eat and drink regular whole foods. (Children over 12 months can eat regular whole foods, dairy and yoghurts) These toddler foods can also be less nutritious, see the photos. So just be careful when buying products and try not to be sucked in by the clever marketing. Use the nutrition panel to help make comparisons. Here's the link to the media report from Deakin Uni and Vic Health. https://www.vichealth.vic.gov.au//Toddler-milk-and-food-re

09.01.2022 Have you heard of the Mediterranean dietary pattern? It’s a pattern of eating that encourages plenty of fruits and vegetables, monounsaturated oils (incl. oliv...e oil), whole grains, legumes. Fish and poultry as the main meats consumed in moderation alongside low fat dairy and nuts, with occasional red meat. This is a simple dietary pattern to follow and can fit into any lifestyle and can be adjusted to the environment you live in. With no superfoods and expensive food it’s manageable for all. It’s got a proven evidence base with benefits including reducing the risk of overall mortality, cardiovascular diseases, coronary heart, disease neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes. It includes plenty of fibre, vitamins, minerals and variety that help feed and support a healthy gut microbiota. What’s not to love? In January I’m going to be promoting ways to help you make gradual achievable changes to increase these beneficial foods. 08.01.2022 So it appears that rhubarb is a VEGETABLE not a fruit... for all these years I’ve been eating extra veggies... who knew it was a vegetable? #freonutritionist #freonutrition #fremantle

08.01.2022 Birthday pancakes are a tradition in our house. I’ve altered the recipe to include wholemeal flour for extra fibre and use sunflower oil instead of butter. Serve them with fruit and yoghurt. What a great start to the day. Let me know if you’d like the recipe x

05.01.2022 Lest we forget. 11/11

05.01.2022 Apologies that The Fremantle Nutritionist has been Missing-in-Action. I was getting my house ready for sale which was hard work but hopefully worth the effort. But I’m back now and getting in the Christmas spirit. Watch this space for some recipes, food suggestions and videos .... it’s good to be back. Question for you - what is this a picture of? #freonutritionist #freonutrition #cookingisfun #fremantle

03.01.2022 When your mother knows you well and sends you recipes. Brussel sprouts are the best. Mhairi shall I invite you and Robbie over?

03.01.2022 Making some Christmas granola for presents. Lots of oat, nuts and seeds, with Christmas spices and some maple syrup to bind. Yes it has sugar, but also lots of goodness and is best sprinkled on porridge, yoghurt or stewed fruits. I’ll share the finished product once it’s been in the oven. Anyone want the recipe? #freonutritionist #freonutrition #cookingisfun #fremantle
