24.01.2022 MY RESPONSE TO ST BASILS AGED CARE NSW-ACT ANNOUNCEMENT AGAINST ME WHAT AN INSOLENCE OF THEM, INSTEAD OF BEING GRATEFUL AND APOLOGETIC! I AM TRANSPARENT AND... CLEAR CRYSTAL WHAT ABOUT YOU, RUTHLESS PEOPLE? Few days ago ST BASILS AGED CARE NSW/ACT, through the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, published with fanfare their response to my recent Public Denunciation against Archbishop of Australia Makarios and one of his closest collaborators: a cameraman who embezzled dozens of thousands of dollars against this very charity organisation, using as a platform for his embezzlement the documentary on the life and deeds of the late Archbishop Stylianos of Australia. The embezzler was the Executive Producer and Director of the documentary and I myself have played a major role from the very beginning in my capacity as the sole and exclusive Executive Editor and interviewer of the documentary. I had absolutely nothing to do with its funding by ST BASILS, given that I insisted on providing my services VOLUNTARILY and FREE OF ANY CHARGE. This moral and financial scandal was covered-up by Archbishop Makarios. Now its obvious, according to their own announcement, that ST BASILS Board of Directors share equal responsibility for the cover-up by their effort to either ignore or downplay Mr Makarios responsibilities for the scandal. (How generous of them! They even sacrifice themselves for their Archbishop!). The stuffed/sell-out Greek Press in Australia rushed, of course, to publish the full of lies announcement of ST BASILS against me namely and in defence of the Archbishop, without prior publishing even one line from my Public Denunciation against Mr Makarios and the embezzler collaborator of his, so for their poor readers to understand what is really happening! Therefore I come back today to comment on ST BASILS inaccurate, misleading and intimidating announcement against me and to provide the answers needed to disprove their lies, using their own internal mailing legally and officially forwarded to me last April UNCLASSIFIED as part of their investigation for the embezzlement- by the Chairman of ST BASILS Board himself: Mr James Jordan/ Solicitor. (Until very recently Mr. Jordan was my friend; he is also a former collaborator of mine in his own law firm in early 90s). Following the mud war they (the Archdiocese and ST BASILS) have started against me since my Public Denunciation was published on my FB page last week, I solely declare hereby that I HAVE NEVER ASKED ST BASILS OR THE ARCHDIOSECE OR ANYONE ELSE FOR COMPENSATION FOR MY WORK IN REGARDS TO THE PRODUCTION OF THE DOCUMENTARY. I WILL NOT ASK ST. BASILS OR THE ARCHDIOSECE OR ANYONE ELSE FOR COMPENSATION FOR MY WORK IN REGARDS TO THE PRODUCTION OF THE DOCUMENTARY. This is because it is clear to anyone interested that, from the very beginning, I got involved with the documentary under a condition (that I myself freely imposed and it was happily accepted by ST BASILS): to not be paid for the services I offered for almost 15 months, as I wanted to create the documentary voluntarily and for free as a memorial to my beloved spiritual father the late Archbishop Stylianos. Additionally, I viewed this work as a symbolic offering to the Greek-Australian Community, I belong to, in order to highlight their remarkable sacrifices and achievements for many decades, in order to secure the progress and the benefit of our Church and Hellenism in Australia. I ONLY RESERVE MY INTELLECTUAL RIGHTS OVER MY HARD WORK ON THE DOCUMENTARY! AND I DONT INTEND TO HAND MY HARD WORK OVER TO AN EMBEZZLER AND A SLANDERER AGAINST ME, as Archbishop Makarios has illegally and immorally decided! LIES AND HALF TRUTHS! ST BASILS recent announcement, signed by Mr James Jordan, is full of lies and half-truths in an aim to manipulate public opinion (our Greek-Australian Community) and excuse the embezzler Mr Markellos Petropoulos and his guardian Archbishop Makarios from their responsibilities and charges in regards to the embezzlement. By doing so they IMMORALY try to put the blame on ME, to nail ME in the position of the accused, although they know very well that I AM THE VICTIM of their ingratitude and of ST BASILS embezzlers (and my personal slanderers) greed while they demonstrate servility towards their boss, the Archbishop. They call my SPECIFIC and SOLID DOCUMENTED evidence, disclosing the scandal of the embezzlement and its cover-up, trumped up personal diatribe, unfounded and baseless assertions, etc. However, it was Mr James Jordan himself (the one who signs ST BASILS announcement right now) who called me on the 4th of June, 2020, to update me on the latest developments in regards to the stuck documentary. Mr. Jordan informed me of the documented discovery of Mr Petropoulos embezzlement (who charged the organisation with TRIPLE and more of the filming crews REAL costs and/or charged non-existent services etc.); the Boards decision to kick him out of the documentary project as well as out of the organisation which he had collaborated with for some 7 years in general because of mistrust; and about the intervention of Archbishop Makarios -the very next day of the Boards meeting- in order to save his protégé; and his order to get the full authority and responsibility of the documentary for himself/the Archdiocese AND the embezzler from then onwards, thus depriving ST BASILS from the project they had initiated and so generously funded until then. All the above were recorded in detail by me in an email which I forwarded on the 10th of June to Mr Jordan (as the Chairman of the Board) and ccd to the Vice Chairman of the Board Dr Theo Penklis. This email (attached hereby amongst other documents) was NEVER disputed by either of them, because it was obviously recording TRUE FACTS so they had no reason to dispute it. This leads to the question: WHEN was Mr James Jordan speaking the TRUTH? On the 4th of June (during his phone call to me) or NOW, when he is contradicting himself against any evidence? Lets have a closer look at a few of Mr Jordans claims in the recent ST BASILS announcement, which reveal their lies: The Board of St Basils approved the project, giving authority to Mr Petropoulos to produce the documentary. Due to Mrs Moralis prestigious profile and deep admiration for the late Archbishop Stylianos, Mr Petropoulos engaged Mrs Morali. MY RESPONSE AND COMMENT: According to what Mr Jordan himself told me last year (June 2019), when I was visiting Australia in order to conduct locally many of the interviews I had organised for the documentary, the project was approved by the Board ONLY when Mr Petropoulos confirmed that I would be the person in charge to exclusively do the editorial work/production of the documentary (late March-early April 2019). Mr Petropoulos had no close contact with the late Archbishop Stylianos (he barely knew Him) nor did he have journalistic/editorial skills or experience. In addition, he had no idea (as he has admitted) of the turbulent history of the Greek-Australian Community or about the Archdioceses history. He was a cameraman I was an experienced journalist in the Greek and Australian Press and Radio-Television, for almost 40 years. And, also important, I had a trustful bond and spiritual contact with the late Archbishop for approximately three decades. I was familiar with His deeds and with facts and persons within the Archdiocese and the vast Greek-Australian Community. So, it was not just my prestige or my admiration for the late Archbishop which made Mr Petropoulos engage me. In fact, it was decided for me to be the EXCLUSIVE and sole CONTENT PRODUCER and the Editor in Chief as the most relevant and ideal for the documentary, with him being in charge of the direction and the technical side of it only. And that was my condition from the beginning: if I could not have the exclusive authority on the content of the documentary, from the start to the very end, so to ensure its quality and objectiveness, I wouldnt get involved with it at all. That condition was happily accepted by both ST BASILS and Mr Petropoulos in early April 2019, along with a second term (to offer my services for free -which I did- with only my travel costs to be paid by ST BASILS). Thats how I started my over a yearlong hard work on organising, preparing, conducting and pre-editing the content of the documentary (almost 90-95% of it): including 35 interviews with Orthodox Church personalities (including the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Archbishops of Athens/Greece and Crete), famous Greek academics and many more in Greece, Constantinople/Turkey and Australia/Sydney. However, after a first smooth period of collaboration, a period of tortures started for me. I was waiting for more than six months for Mr Petropoulos to forward back to me the necessary material to start pre-editing the documentary. This included the absolutely ESSENTIAL material of the late Archbishop Himself (i.e. interviews, speeches, participations in religious events etc.) which were to be used as the spine of the documentary and which I NEVER RECEIVED by him! When I mounted pressure on Mr Petropoulos, so to prove ourselves responsible and deliver the documentary as quickly as possible at last, as we owed to -even significantly later than due time (which initially was till the end of November 2019)-, he reacted with continuous postponements and a lack of sense of duty or urgency. And finally, following his appointment as Communication Officer in the Archdiocese itself, last February, and having methodically built a strong relationship with Archbishop Makarios promoting him (as his personal cameraman and photographer) in every possible way on a daily basis, he took advantage of this relationship so to get rid of my pressure and kick me out of the documentary at a point at which I had provided almost 90% of the total work! Therefore Mr Petropoulos unilaterally breached our agreement, for me to be the exclusive Executive Editorial Producer of the documentary from the beginning to the very end, and excluded me from the project during the most crucial phase of it. In early 2020, the project costs exceeded their initial budget estimate of $80,000 100,000. The board of St Basils made the appropriate enquiries, before unanimously approving for Mr Petropoulos to finish the documentary with an increased budget, although the Board did investigate completing the documentary with alternative producers Archbishop Makarios did participate the decision-making process (as President of St Basils NSW-ACT). More lies from the Chairman James Jordan and ST BASILS! MY RESPONSE AND COMMENT: Until then (late March 2020) I had no idea of any financial details or complications between Mr Petropoulos and ST BASILS, as I had no involvement with the funding of the documentary, except being paid for my travel costs as I had requested. It was only in June 2019 while I visited Sydney to conduct some 20 interviews for the doc- that Mr James Jordan informed me ST BASILS had an agreement with Mr Petropoulos for an amount of $80,000 to cover the costs and his payment for the documentary. Mr Jordan had referred specifically to $80,000 -and NOT $100,000! An amount more than satisfactory for Mr Petropoulos, given that I the most crucial factor of the project- was offering my services for free. However, according to the internal email forwarded to me on the 12th of April 2020 by Mr Jordan, it has been proven that Mr Petropoulos had been paid $111,100 long before we even halfway completed the documentary. Additionally, Mr. Petropoulos issued an Invoice for another amount of $45,000 totalling $156,000 in order to complete the project! This is clearly depicted in an officers email dated 02.04.2020 (attached below), Mr Stephen Rookes, who rang the bell for the double cost that was emerging without a reasonable cause or explanation by Mr Petropoulos! (And in another email, the very same officer informs his managers that he has not located any Boards decision in regards to the documentary itself, from February 2019 before even the late Archbishop dies- up to November 2019! Nor for the documentarys production neither for its funding! Nothing at all! This email is also attached below). It was then that the Board questioned Mr Petropoulos, through ST BASILS CEO, Father Nicholas Stavropoulos, asking why the documentarys cost was doubled. Amazingly, he provided them through a Fr. N. Stavropoulos email- with a series of causes accusing ME (the UNPAID Exec. Producer and Editor) for this! (Attached document, dated 2 April 2020, signed by Fr. N. Stavropoulos). My slanderous co-producer falsely accused that I failed to appear and conduct planned [by myself] interviews on several occasions, leaving (supposedly) the two-member filming crew waiting for me for days and billing the production with $2,500 PER DAY! He also asserted that increased costs were due to refusing to fly Economy or charging my husbands expenses in Constantinople for two days on the production. Mr James Jordan contacted me on behalf of the Board on the 12th of April, in order to get my response to Mr Petropoulos allegations against me and track what happened with the inflation of the cost. I easily provided detailed, solid and fully documented evidence to ST BASILS Board (in my -19 pages- detailed email of the 17th of April 2020, forwarded to Mr Jordan and ccd to the Vice Chairman Dr Theo Penklis), to prove that I had nothing at all to do with the double cost of the documentary, and to overturn the defamatory allegations conjured by Mr Petropoulos against me in order to find excuses for his greedy actions against the Organisation and to highlight my characters assassination by him! You can understand my deep disappointment and disgust for Mr Petropoulos dishonesty and embezzlement against a Charity Organisation (charging triple the cost of the filming crews -$2,500 per day instead of the real cost of approx. $700.00 800.00 p.d. or charging for services the filming crews or others never provided at all), only to unfairly get paid the double of his initial proposed budget. To not mention that he had co-signed with me, on the 31sth of May 2019 (inaccurately dated on 29th of May), a document/agreement with ST BASILS that he was to provide his services as a cameraman etc.- on a voluntarily basis and FOR FREE, likewise myself!). HOW FROM A KICK-OUT, WAS A UNANIMOUS TRUST TO THE EMBEZZLER REACHED BY THE BOARD? According to Mr Jordans telephone update to me, on the 4th of June 2020 (recorded on my email of the 10th of June forwarded to him and NEVER DISPUTED because it WAS TRUE), the Board unanimously decided to kick Mr Petropoulos out of the documentary and their Organisation on the grounds of unfaithfulness and embezzlement. Further, they demanded that he deliver all the raw material of the documentary back to them immediately. Nevertheless the very next day Mr Jordan received a phone call by ex officio President of ST BASILS- Archbishop Makarios, who ordered him that ST BASILS was to be deprived of the documentary they had initiated and funded and that the Archbishop would take full charge of it, along with his close collaborator Mr Petropoulos, from then on. When Mr Jordan according to him- complained and talked about the embezzlement of Mr Petropoulos, Mr Makarios appeared deaf to the facts. Following the above, how Mr Jordan dares now to claim in public (through their recent announcement) that they unanimously approved for Mr Petropoulos to finish the documentary with an increased budget? WHEN is he telling the truth? On the 4th of June to me or now? And how the hell did the Board decide to trust an undoubted and proven embezzler again? Was it a modern incident of a Holy Ghost epiphany during the Board meeting? How did they protect and safeguard their Organisations interests as a Board? Did they demand the embezzler to return all of the excess payment (some dozens of thousands of dollars) back to their Organisation or not? Of course, Mr Jordan is whispering in his announcement now that Archbishop Makarios did participate in the decision-making process (in order to re-instate his protégé as the sole producer of the documentary, illegally claiming the INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY and the physical efforts for more than a year of the person his protégé falsely accused and defamed ME- in order to find immoral excuses for his unacceptable greed). Why is Mr Jordan hiding the plain truth from the public that he was in fact ordered by the Archbishop to cover-up the embezzlement and stop chasing his protégé? Imagine: Archbishop Makarios is involved in a cover-up of an embezzlement in an organisation he is supposed to safeguard! Likewise ST BASILS Board itself according to their recent announcement. Very interesting for an organisation, which is dependant on donations by the public, on tax deductions, and grants by the federal government! Therefore, what we have is: 1. A proven embezzlement against ST BASILS NSW-ACT -a charity organisation under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia- committed by Mr Mark(ellos) Petropoulos, who continues to work on a daily basis next to Archbishop Makarios as a new-added employee (Communication/Press officer) of the Archdiocese since last February, (without any professional background as a journalist of course). 2. A cover-up of the embezzlement by Archbishop himself and ST BASILS Board of Directors. Who have yet to provide answers whether as the guardians of this charity organisation- they demanded from the embezzler to return all the excess amounts he unfairly received. 3. A cruel defamation against me, committed by Mr Petropoulos through former CEO Fr N. Stavropoulos email to the Board, claiming false and distorted facts, non-existent events etc., committing a character assassination against me and insulting me as a professional journalist. 4. A theft of my work of approx. 15 months over the documentary, which is left in the hands of my slanderer to be completed; and, last but not least, 5. The documentary on the late Archbishop of Australia Stylianos Life and Deeds to rely on the hands of these least respectful men (Archbishop Makarios and Mr Petropoulos), the latter who never met and had no idea of that Church Giant, and neither who pay respect to His fond memory. On the contrary, they try hard to diminish His tenures achievements in Australia- and Im more than sure they will try to present Him in the documentary cut in their own small measures! FEW WORDS FOR MY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY In his announcement, Mr Jordan disputes my intellectual property of my work for the documentary, claiming an agreement I had signed with ST BASILS (along with Mr Petropoulos) and through that supposedly relinquishing my intellectual rights to the documentary in favour of ST BASILS. Unfortunately, Mr Jordan besides being an experienced Solicitor- is missing a crucial point: I had signed that Agreement in GOOD FAITH, knowing that I was dealing with a Religious Organisation so I had no reasons to take special measures to secure and protect myself and my rights 100%, believing I was dealing with trustful persons with the fear of God, with people with dignity and honour, with people of respect, and not with conmen. I signed under the sole condition that I was fully charged with the editorial responsibility of the documentary from the beginning to the very end as pre-agreed with Mr Petropoulos and ST BASILS over the phone from late March 2019. Now that Im deliberately excluded from the completion of the documentary in its most crucial phase (the final editing, the writing of the texts etc.), now that this Agreement has been breached unilaterally from their side (Archbishop/Archdiocese, Mr Petropoulos and ST BASILS), without my responsibility and without any wrongdoing from my side, how they dare to claim the Agreement in their favour? A breached Agreement committed without a justified reason by one side of the Agreement- how it can work against the other side which has no responsibility of the breach? Is this LEGAL? Is this MORAL, Archbishop Makarios and Mr Jordan? Especially for a Christian, a church organisation? Stealing an innocent and committed persons hard work and intellectual property only to use it for your own dirty purposes? And besides this very person has officially and in time declared in private (through two letters sent to Archbishop Makarios by me, on the 15th of June and on the 6th of July 2020) and in public through my Public Denunciation on my Facebook on the 7th of August, 2020- that she PROHIBITS for her Intellectual Property to be used in any documentary they may produce as Archdiocese or ST BASILS? IF YOU ARE CAPABLE ENOUGH, go and produce all the material (35+ interviews and more that I have organised, prepared and conducted in three countries) YOURSELVES! Do not STEAL other peoples work! MY HARD WORK I OFFERED FOR FREE for the sake of my spiritual father, the late Archbishop Stylianos, and of my beloved Greek-Australian Community! And you urge me to go to the Courts (the -unapproachable in costs!- Australian Courts!) to seek my Intellectual Rights or you threaten me with Court action in the future! YOU RUTHLESS, UNGRATEFUL, CYNICAL, LIERS, HYPOCRITES AND THIEVES of my work! TWO APOLOGIES AND ONE THANK YOU! The least I EXPECT now from Archbishop Makarios and ST BASILS NSW-ACT, as a person who was INVITED BY YOU to contribute my knowledge and professional experience to a noble (initially) task and having responded with plenty of zeal and tireless work for more than a year VOLUNTARILY AND FOR FREE, is TWO APOLOGIES and a THANK YOU!: One apology for involving me in a mess and a financial scandal, caused by a collaborator of yours, Mr Markellos Petropoulos (whom I had never met before in my life, until starting our collaboration especially for the documentary), without any reason or responsibility from my side and Another apology for defaming me and intimidating me through your announcement and internal emails, regardless I offered my best to secure the optimum result for your Organisation and for the fond memory of the late Archbishop Stylianos of Australia. And a Thank You! for leaving my house and my family for months to serve your purpose and interests, saving you money and resources and suffering severe physical pain (thanks to my injured knee I was travelling with for long periods in three countries) in order to fulfil my commitments with you at the best of my capacity, without any financial gain for myself. A LESSON TO BE LEARNED I hope that this bitter lesson of mine will act as an alarm-bell for all our Greek-Australian Community! I would like everyone to realise how the people we have trusted to run and manage our major Institutions and organisations our CHURCH and its major charity organisation in particular- are dealing with money management and with moral principles. Maybe my case, I exposed hereby, is not a significant one or of a major financial interest. But, be sure, its indicative enough of how men of God treat people who OFFER IN GOOD FAITH for the common good, and how they manage the money that donors, Aged Care patrons and the State entrust to their Boards. I will leave it here, as I have no more energy and time to spend, no more patience and tolerance to deal with dirt. I have other creative things to do in my life. I m satisfied by the fact that now, following my Public Denunciation, a lot of you out there will know that in case the documentary for the late Archbishop Stylianos of Australia will be cooked and finally released in the future by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and ST BASILS it will be based on MY WORK and my STOLEN Intellectual Property besides I have prohibited them to do so against my will. And against the will of 10 persons (amongst them top academics from Greece and close friends and relatives of the late Archbishop) who have officially made known to Mr Makarios their decision to withdraw their interviews from the documentary because of lack of trust! (All the above have been forwarded by me to His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos, since last June.) However I suggest that this is a chance for all of us to show to this kind of people, that their attitude is wrong, is damaging and cannot be tolerated any more. Past generations of Greek Australians have made amazing sacrifices to provide for our community. Many still do. Those who have donated to the Church and to our institutions and organisations for decades deserve respect and gratitude and a security that their efforts will not be looted. (They had this trust under the guidance of wise and honest leaders, such as the late Archbishop Stylianos.) They should be able to trust that their generosity will not be used to greedily fill the pockets of those in positions of power and influence. Instead, their donations should be used as intended: a respectful common property for the benefit of the whole Community. I acted and reacted according to my dignity and my clear consciousness. I rang the bell now it is your turn! If you remain silent, regardless the wrongdoings around you, you become as guilty as the culprits themselves for what will follow in the future. THANKS AND A WARNING! I would like to thank my beloved husband Costas Giotakis for all his support, love and patience throughout this difficult and disappointing period for me, other members of my family, many friends in Greece and Australia, as well as a huge number of (mainly UNKNOWN TO ME till now) people around Australia and Greece Laity and Clergy- who came to my support with hundreds of messages, phone calls or public comments. Thank you very much for your trust in me and your kind care for me, even advising me openly to be very careful from now on, as you have touched some big interests! or expressing fear for my safety! I will take their concerns very seriously and I have already contacted the relevant Authorities to inform them accordingly. YOU ARE MY PROTECTION, after all! THANK YOU! God and our Lady have mercy on us! God -who does not bless the injustice!

18.01.2022 Free Virtual Seminar: Kerouac and the Greek Connection Speaker: George Mouratidis Synopsis... While the "road" novels of Jack Kerouac get the lion's share of critical and popular attention and, like the author himself, serve as iconic touchstones of the peripatetic mythos associated with the Beat Generation writers and postwar American counterculture, this lecture examines Kerouac through the lens of diaspora as a writer whose vision of America, at once romantic and melancholy, was that of an outsider, looking in. Kerouac's sense of "home" growing up in the working-class French-Canadian and Greek migrant community of Lowell, Massachusetts for him served as a key counterpoint to the open road and urban bohemias for which he is most celebrated. This perpetual dialogue between "Loswell" and "the road" established the fundamental dualism and ambivalence that informed and shaped the Kerouac's self-identity, language, and his art a conflict that ism, of course, at the heart of the migrant experience. By focusing on the impact of Lowell's Greek community on Kerouac's life and literature, particularly his close association with the Sampas family, this lecture seeks to complicate the "King of the Beats", and by so doing, reveal the richness and nuance of "Beat" writing and culture in general. Bio George Mouratidis is a Greek-born poet, translator and researcher. He has taught cultural studies at RMIT University and American literature at The University of Melbourne, where he co-founded the Living Poetry Sessions with writer-poet Lucy Van and is completing his doctorate on the politics and poetics of the Beat Generation. He was a contributing editor of Jack Kerouacs On The Road: The Original Scroll and is the translator of Noted Transparencies (Owl, 2016) by Greek-language poet Nikos Nomikos, with whom he continues to work closely. His debut poetry collection, Angel Frankenstein (Soul Bay Press, 2018) was published last year.
