25.01.2022 Eating to reduce inflammation . Inflammation is one of the ways our body naturally heals and repairs. Its a vital tool for a healthy immune system . When you cut your finger for example your immune system springs into action. Extra white blood cells are sent to the injury to protect and instigate repair. We call this acute inflammation as its a rapid response from your body... . Then there is chronic inflammation and this type of inflammation can lead to health problems, like heart disease, diabetes, depression, skin disorders and even cancer. Chronic inflammation is our body's response to exposure to unwanted substances/environments like cigarette smoke, stress, and highly processed foods high in sugar and salt There are ways we can reduce chronic inflammation in our environment naturally through what we eat . By giving our digestive system what it needs to create a healthy environment to balance digestion and improve the function of our immune system . A balance of fibre, preferably wholegrain. Eat more plant based foods like fruit, veg, legumes, nut and seeds. And embrace the good fats in moderation . This recipe is incredibly easy, but its the ingredients that are the real stars. Starting with oats, glorious oats! They are high in fibre, and studies show they can have and anti-inflammatory effect because of their betaglucan content. Hemp seeds and chia seeds follow with their essential fatty acid super powers! . Thanks again to our very own skin therapist, Melissa for creating these beautiful recipes . #superfoods #betaglucan #healthybody #goodhealth # healthyheart #inflammation #healthyrecipes #freshskinclinicperth

25.01.2022 Eat your antioxidants! . What are antioxidants? Well, they are compounds produced in your body and they are found in a number of foods. . They are really useful for helping defend your cells from damage caused by potentially harmful molecules known as free radicals ... . Now you've probably heard your skin therapist mention free radicals before. If not, free radicals can be pretty destructive when they accumulate. They start to cause a state known as oxidative stress. This can lead to damage in our DNA and other important structures in our cells . But eating a diet rich in antioxidants can help increase our blood antioxidant levels to fight oxidative stress and reduce the risk of diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and even premature aging. Here's a few of our favourite antioxidant rich foods! . Dark Chocolate, not only delicious, but nutritious and one of the best sources of antioxidants. Generally speaking the higher the cocoa percentage the more antioxiants it contains. The antioxidants in cocoa and dark chocolate have been linked with health benefits such as reducing inflammation and reducing risk factors for heart disease . Blueberries, aswell as being low in calories, they are packed with nutrients and antioxidants. Lots of studies show blueberries to contain the highest amounts of antioxidants among all common fruit and vegetables. . Raspberries, those soft, tart berries are a great source of dietry fiber, vitamin C, manganese and antioxidants. . In todays recipe we're utilizing the powers of dark chocolate in these sweet little cookies! #superfoods #goodhealth #antioxidants #chocolate #healthyrecipes See more

24.01.2022 Its hard to put into words the happiness that a pet can bring someone. You might be the one caring for your pet but they support and care for you in unspoken ways. Whether its a dog wagging their tail and greeting you at the door, a cat or bunny snuggled in your lap or a bird singing to you, pets provide companionship and unconditional affection. The bond you share with a pet can do a lot to support your mental health. . Pets dont judge; You dont need to explain to them ...why you havent left the house in a couple of days or why you havent brushed your hair. Pets love you without judgement and theyre happy to be in your company. . Pets keep you company; When youre not feeling great about yourself or youre not up to interacting with people, pets are there for you. They often have a calming influence. . Pets can encourage you to be more active; OK, so you cant walk a fish, but pets such as dogs, cats and rabbits often enjoy spending time outdoors. Head outside; join your pets in their playtime and enjoy the fresh air together. Walking your dog can also help you be more socially interactive, which can sometimes be hard when your not feeling too confident. . Taking care of a pet can remind you to take better care of yourself; Pets love routines and routines are good for people too. Pets encourage you to wake, eat, play, exercise and sleep at regular times. Routines give your days purpose and structure which are supportive factors to manage conditions depression and anxiety. . 23.01.2022 #Repost @dmkuk_ with @make_repost Did you know that most skincare ranges work only on the surface of the skin? In order for the skin to regenerate, they need to receive recognisable active ingredients that are similar to their natural chemistry. DMK products are paramedical, pharmaceutical grade & transdermal that simulate the chemistry of the body to ensure that long-term structural changes are induced in the skin, whilst simultaneously improving the aesthetic appearanc...e of the skin. Herb & Mineral Mist, which is a blend of vitamins, minerals & trace elements, is a must have for all DMK clients as it pushes the products deeper into the skin & facilitates tissue hydration. It can also be sprayed throughout the day or when on flights over makeup for added hydration! Top tip alert! ensure you spray at least 4-6 times over the face & neck day & night. #dmkskin #freshskinclinicperth #dmkskinrevision #perthbeauty #changingskinchanginglives

23.01.2022 Sunlight can be good for us, its all about serotonin, melatonin and vitamin D! . Sunlight and darkness trigger the release of hormones in your brain. . Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brains release of a hormone called serotonin.... . Serotonin is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused. . At night, darker lighting triggers the brain to make another hormone called melatonin, This hormone is responsible for helping you sleep. . Exposure to the ultraviolet-B radiation in the suns rays causes a persons skin to create vitamin D. . Vitamin D is essential for strong bones, low levels of vitamin D have been linked to bone wasting diseases such as osteoporosis . Its advised that we stay out of the suns harmful rays between the hours of 10am and 3pm, but 5 - 15 minutes of sunlight on your arms three times a week can be hugely beneficial for your mind and body. #sunshine #healthymindandbody #vitaminD #freshskinclinicperth @ Westfield Booragoon See more

06.01.2022 Acne and Diet Does it really matter what you eat for the health of your skin? . Well the body likes to be between 6.9 - 7.2 on the pH scale. When the body is too acidic or too alkaline, the body's system works to balance it. To much acid can lead to skin eruptions like acne, but also eczema, inflammation and other skin and health issues.... . When the body is acidic, it can form all kinds of lovely things like yeast, fungus and bacteria. Acid forming hormones are also created by stress, so stress can effect the alkalinity of the body. . Foods containing sugar, dairy, gluten and foods that are highly processed are all acidic and should be avoided when trying to revise acne conditions. . There are some foods that are acidic which can still be enjoyed, but in moderation. Things like apricots, peaches, cashews, pistachios and sunflower oil. Fruits and vegetables, soybeans and tofu, some nuts, seeds and legumes are alkaline promoting foods. These are the kind of foods our diets should be plentiful of. . Our recipe today uses a balance of both acidic and alkaline. Apricots and peaches are acidic, but are a great source of Vit A, C, E and beta carotene. Coconut is rich in fibre and Hemp seeds are high in essential fatty acids, linoleic acid (omega 3) and alpha-linoleic acid (omega 6). We've also used a chocolate that is dairy and gluten free, easily found in the health foods isle. #youarewhatyoueat #acneskin #guthealth #foodforskin See more

04.01.2022 Hormones & Acne . You often hear the term hormonal acne this is because of the way skin develops a response to hormonal fluctuation’s, In particularly a rise in androgens, such as testosterone. . Androgens trigger a higher production of sebum & an increase in cellular activity, plus they hinder the separation of dead skin cells, this combined with the colonisation of P.acnes bacteria in the hair follicle, means inflammation, puss & blockages. ... . When you have higher levels of testosterone, you will be lower in progesterone. Progesterone is your anti inflammatory hormone.(we need all the anti inflammatories when dealing with acne) . hormones unbalances can be linked with medication, pregnancy, ovulation, thyroid problems, poor gut health, stress, poor sleep & diet . It is possible to have hormonal acne at any stage during your life, & for it to be combined with other skin conditions. . It is impossible to effectively treat acne without considering whats happening on the inside. #acneskincare #hormonalacne #regul8relax #facialsperth See more

01.01.2022 Stress!!! . Stress is defined by anything that causes disharmony to the normal functioning of the body. . High levels of stress cause our cortisol levels to rise, this then begins a chain of processes that ultimately disrupts the delicate balance of our hormones, creating excess oil, increased cell turnover & the perfect environment for the P. Acne bacteria to thrive.... . Poor sleep or lack of sleep will effect our bodies ability to heal & repair Melatonin is required to keep our circadian rhythm on track. Melatonin works in unison with serotonin (your happy hormone) which is produced in the gut!. #stressless #acneskin #freshskinclinicperth #dontstress #relax See more
