25.01.2022 We are proud to announce the completion and official opening of Waikato University Macroalgae Research Facility in Tauranga, New Zealand FBD was contracted to supply and construct a state-of-the-art Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS) for the Facility of Aquaculture Research of Macroalgae. This included two identical, bespoke algae research systems for both fresh or saltwater use and were housed in greenhouses with temperature control. The facility included 2 x RAS systems... each with: 6 x 7000L High-rate algal (HRAP) tanks from Ajay Fibreglass 6 x 1000L Duraplas tanks each These systems include: Direct CO2 control via FBD injection systems with PID control RK2 Foam Fractionators Ultra Aqua UV systems Waterco Aquabiome filters, Media filters with AFM media Waterco pumps including inbuilt and stand-alone VFD control Dual OxyGuard Pacific units (supplied by Technolab) measuring pressure, flow, pH, salinity, temperature and water levels FSI Bag Filters Oasis Heat Pumps FBD Oxygen Cones The system also required dual intake water treatment system for saltwater and freshwater also allowing for input of various sources of wastewater to trial treatment and remediation options. With the project due to start just as international flights were cancelled and countries started to lock down, it was an amazing effort by the University and all other teams involved to keep the project moving and ensure it was completed once New Zealand came out of lockdown. 21.01.2022 Good afternoon to all who stalk this page daily Did you know that before salmon are transported to the sea cages, each group must be challenged to ensure they are biologically ready for the rapid change from freshwater to saltwater? Google smoltification. We built and tested these two challenge systems in the workshop, packed them up and shipped down to Tasmania for a nice quick install by our Tassy based crew. Component breakdown of each system:... - 2 x 1000L Poly Tanks - FBD crafted Filter Sump using bags for mechanical filtration followed by a Moving Bed Biofilter then a pumping sump - Chiller on a loop to simulate those cool Tasmanian waters - Pump through a 50W UV then back to the tanks - Lids to keep the fish in and the rabbits out. We supply these same systems to schools and hobbyists as well.

They will be growing Rainbow Trout in the system and leafy green in a Vertical Green Wall. 20.01.2022 We are thrilled to be on site now installing a new Macroalgae Research Facility for the University of Waikato in New Zealand. We are project managing this install remotely using local contractors, complete 3D drawings, web cam communication and build checks all while managing COVID-19 regulations, social distancing and local and international travel restrictions. Luckily, we are well organised and enjoy a challenge!

15.01.2022 Luckily, Ben and Callum were able to install these research Rack Systems at the NSW DPI Fisheries Research site in Narrandera recently. NSW Fisheries engaged Fresh by Design to design and install a research tank room that will allow them to conduct controlled research within the facility. Environmental factors such as air temperature and water temperature can be controlled allowing experiments all year round. Research may include, cold water pollution, temperature tolerances,... otolith daily ageing, genetics, spawning cues and breeding, and threatened species advancement. The facility includes: - 4 x racks each with 4 x 80L glass tanks - 1 x rack with 20 x 80L glass tanks - Each rack has individual filtration, temperature control and aeration. - These Rack Systems were built and assembled in our workshop prior to delivery to reduce the time and cost on site. The design phase covered all aspects of the build and nothing was too much trouble for Ben and his team. 11.01.2022 Here are some 100L Clear Polycarbonate fish tanks we recently supplied to Plant & Food Research in Nelson, New Zealand. Ready to produce Snapper families for their breeding group. This system is run on flow-through. Eggs from male/female crosses will be kept separated in these tanks for the first 6-8 weeks until they can genotype and phenotype each individual, then they can be combined into larger tanks for on growing.
