22.01.2022 It was brought to our attention today that a work shirt has been found in one of the cabbage bins which has been sent to Vegco by Derrel Farms. We do understand that the shirt would have fallen inside the bin by accident, but this incident has caused unnecessary stress for Derrel Farms. Freshcare Harvest would like to remind all employees that personal belongings (such as clothes) and equipment (such as knives) should always be placed in a safe and secure place. Please do not place any clothing items on the bins or the forks, but store those at the end of the rows safely (preferably in one of the work vans) or hand your clothes to one of the tractor drivers.

18.01.2022 Employees need to understand that the use of mobile phones and portable music devices with headphones ( e.g. Ipods, MP3s etc) whilst working can cause distraction, disruption and interruption to the performance of their duties. Mobile phones and portable music devices can distract from surrounding noise and activity, can cause an employee not to hear instructions or alarms and as such are a workplace hazard and dangerous in the workplace. All employee should therefore not use their mobile phones for personal, non-urgent matters, except during meal breaks or rest pauses.

08.01.2022 Knife Safety Policy Knives are necessary yet potentially dangerous tools. The following information is vital to the prevention of cut, slice or puncture wounds.... BASIC KNIFE SAFETY RULES: 1. The very first rule of knife safety is that every knife you use must be sharp. Dull knives can cause hand and wrist injuries, and they just don’t do the job. 2. When you’re done with the knife, put it in its proper storage place. Never leave knives lying around or place them inside bins/boxes, leave them on a belt or stick them into vegetables; they are a cut or puncture hazard waiting to happen. DON'T EVER THROW A KNIFE. 3. When walking with a knife, hold it by the handle with the tip pointing down. In the event you trip or fall, this will reduce the potential for injuring yourself or a co-worker 4. When handing a knife to someone else, present them with the handle, not the blade 5. Use your knife only for its intended purpose: to cut vegetables; it should never be used to clean the shoes, or used as a screw driver. Use knives only as they were intended. 6. Don't cut toward yourself. If the blade slips, you may be injured. Always cut away from yourself. 7. Wear gloves to protect your hands and arms when handling knives
