25.01.2022 Mountain Blend Rice and Lentil Salad I love the textures and taste of this salad and will definitely be making it again. I also discovered that I really like goat’s feta cheese, even though I nearly forgot to include it in the pictures. The recipe is from Sweet Greek Life by Kathy Tsaples which I am selling in store and online. ... www.freshconnection.com.au

19.01.2022 1981 Melbourne City I’ve been saving this special piece of movie footage for this day. Let’s hope we can get back to the good ‘ol days. I’ll be happy to go back to 2019. Isn’t it mesmerising watching all the cars, trams, people, and some familiar places to many of us baby boomers?... It was taken by my special late Uncle Spyro who loved recoding things like me. 18.01.2022 Broad beans, also known as fava beans and koukia in Greek Are you afraid to try them? Why not start simple 1.First remove the beans from their pods.... 2.Bring a small saucepan of water to the boil and add the beans. Cook for appromiately 2 minutes and then drain. 3.Place the beans into a bowl of cold water if you want them to stay green. You can skip this if you want 4.Add them to a salad made of lettuce, tomato, parsley, feta, avocado, dried oregano, red wine vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. Salt and pepper to taste 5.Mix and enjoy! Other options could include dill, cucumber, capsicum, olives, garlic. Would you add anything else? No need to remove the outer skin of the bean as a lot of recipes tell you. I’ve never seen my parents do this. I’ve watched my father grow these and they take exactly 6 months. www.freshconnection.com.au

15.01.2022 or Their spring season is tiny but I still wanted to introduce them because their story is quite interesting. Considered white gold in Germany where they’re a delicacy. In their honour, they even have white asparagus festivals where they crown white asparagus queens White asparagus are not cheap because harvesting them is back breaking work. They grow under mounds of dirt, never see the light of day and are carefully handpicked out of th...e dirt before they even pop up. They start off with the same seed as the green asparagus. Due to their different environmental conditions, they end up totally different in taste and appearance. I’ll be barbecuing mine tonight and popping them on a simple rocket salad Hope you enjoyed my little story www.freshconnection.com.au See more

15.01.2022 Pineapples are ever so sweet now. As a special bonus, they still have their crowns attached too. Did you know that many languages including Greek, Arabic, German, French, Dutch, Hebrew, Hindi, Swedish, Turkish call a pineapple . In the case of the Japanese (painappuru) and the Welsh pinafel. In the early 80’s, my mum used beautiful pineapples to decorate the humongous table of food she had prepared for my 21st B’day (think Greek and think BIG ) I think s...he was ahead of her time. 04.01.2022 767 Hampton Street, Brighton {the tallest building in the background} has been a fruit and vegetable shop from its beginnings {circa 1920’s}. We have been there for over half of that time and seen houses, businesses, trees and service stations, go up and down; young people grow older and become great grandparents too. Just off the top of my head, I remember Mrs Adams cake shop ( I used to be in love with the butterfly cakes in the window), Pippi Long Stockings baby shop, M...r Trotters grocery store, Mr Crothers butcher which is now Houlihans {gave me an endless supply of butcher paper for me to draw on as a little girl}, Alan’s butcher (now Dendy Pizza), Mr Rathbones pharmacy, Mr Major the panel beater across the road, the Georgiou’s fish ‘n chip shop, the Shell petrol station and Charlie at the Caltex petrol & service station, and so much more. Long live small business Can you name a few more local gems (people & places)that have crossed paths with us in our Dendy Village Shopping centre? www.freshconnection.com.au
