25.01.2022 I'm giving a massive shout out to our team right now. Today at work we have Dr Kieran Carlton (osteo) and myself Dr Zoe Freshwater (osteo) treating our patients, as well as Joanne on front desk who is doing an amazing job of helping our patients with their queries, and ensuring our practice is super clean. We also have remedial massage therapist Madeleine Rose of Montrose Wellness continuing her amazing massage particularly at this time when most of us are a bit anxious. In ...these uncertain times. we are of course conflicted by the right course of action. But we are still here. Still calm, still strong, and still carrying on. We all have families, most of us have kids, but we believe at this moment, that we are still happy to be at work, as primary health care practitioners, looking after our patients. We might look a little funny right now - we have donned masks when we are within your 1.5m space. We may smell like hand sanitiser and antibacterial, but we take our hygiene very seriously. If we can no longer see you face to face over the coming weeks, we will certainly be staying connected with you to help you manage at home. Thank you team, thank you patients.

25.01.2022 We are business as usual at Freshwater Osteopathy. Of course the health of our patients and staff is our priority and so we are taking extra measures to ensure we all stay well. We have removed all table covers so that the tables and headrests can be cleaned with antibacterial between each patient. ... All towels are changed after every patient as per normal. Door handles and desks, computers and other hard surfaces are wiped over throughout the day. We have extra hand sanitiser throughout the clinic for your use. And we wash our hands all the time!!! So please help us all by not attending if you have cold or flu symptoms. Or if you have travelled overseas in the last two weeks. Just give us a call on 6334 9044 and we will postpone your appointment. In the meantime, keep well and we look forward to continuing to help you out with your musculoskeletal health. cute puppy photo just to get your attention!

25.01.2022 Unfortunately we have ceased our studio barre classes at this time due to the government’s current guidelines around indoor fitness centres. However we are working on our online version. Our current members already have access to some initial free classes. But we will be extending this opportunity to all in the near future. ... If you’ve wanted to see what Barre is all about but haven’t been able to make it to our studio, then this is your chance to try at home. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram or send us a PM to register your interest. Looking forward to sharing the incredible workouts you get from Barre with all.

24.01.2022 Our receptionists hours may change a little over the coming weeks, but be assured that they are in the office every weekday. If you get our answering machine, then please leave a message, as we WILL call you back. Thank you for your patience!

21.01.2022 Plantar fasciitis (PF) is one of the most common presentations of foot and heel pain that we see as osteopaths. It can often be caused by an increase in loading from standing for long periods, an increase in walking and/or running and unsupportive footwear. Fortunately, there are a number of strategies that we as osteopaths use to help manage PF. Osteopathic treatment can often include soft tissue massage, myofascial release, dry needling and muscle energy techniques. We wi...ll often send patients home with a number of strategies to help speed up their recovery. These may include: - Rolling the sole of the foot over a spiky ball, golf ball or frozen water bottle to help release the muscles and fascia in the sole of the foot - The use of anti-inflammatory cream to assist in pain management - Stretches aimed at targeting the muscles in the sole of the foot and calves - The use of Rock Tape - We may also suggest the use of shoe inserts to help decompress the painful area If you are suffering from foot or heel pain, our osteopaths are trained in managing musculoskeletal complaints in this area. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3951039/

18.01.2022 Aidan graduated from Victoria University with a Masters in Health Science (Osteopathy). Originally from South-East Queensland, Aidan has moved to Tasmania to raise his young family in closer proximity to unspoiled nature and to explore the many mountain bike tracks the Apple Isle has to offer. Aidan is a proponent of employing education as a powerful therapeutic tool to shape a patient’s understanding of themselves and their condition. Through the application of an evidence-b...ased, structural approach Aidan helps support the body to overcome injury. Aidan strongly believes in an individualised approach to all treatments and sees Osteopathy as a powerful adjunct to Allopathic Medicine. When not at work, Aidan will often be found bushwalking with his young son or cycling Kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Aidan commences his role at Freshwater Osteopathy next Monday March the 29th and bookings are available through the Book Now button, or by phone 6334 9044.

15.01.2022 A little excited about the amazing learning I am starting today. The Oral Habilitation of the Breastfeeding Dyad. A three day course to assist me in assisting those babies and mums with breastfeeding problems. This course is designed by lactation consultations and myofunctuonal therapists, and will help me as an osteopath to continue building my skills when treating babies and children which I adore. I’ve already done many courses in this area, and am working with speech pathologists and lactation consultants already, but this one should be amazing.

10.01.2022 The most important aspect of your exercise is prolonged consistency. If you aren’t consistent over time then you won’t see results. It doesn’t matter whether you are training for rehab or an event/sport or health.Focus on building habits- the results will come over time.... Most rehab programs will take a minimum of around 8 weeks before you see the results. Allow for hiccups! Don’t beat yourself up for missing a couple of days. It is inevitable that this will happen. Try to plan ahead for when you will perform your exercise. If the exercise doesn’t take long (a couple of minutes) try choosing a daily activity you can pair it around. For example whilst you boil the water for your morning coffee.

06.01.2022 Is it a slipped disc? No. Discs do not slip as such but they can bulge or protrude. What is a disc? An intervertebral disc is a shock absorber that sits between the vertebra throughout the spine. It is made of an outer fibrous ring and filled with a jelly like inner nucleus. It acts like a spongy cushion during movement to protect the spine. ...Continue reading

01.01.2022 Temporomandibular (TMJ) or jaw pain is a common presentation we see as osteopaths. Patients often present with pain in the jaw, around the ear or temple, difficulty chewing and even reduced motion or locking of the jaw. The most common causes of jaw pain are clenching and grinding of the teeth. Here are some tips to relieve and/or prevent jaw pain: Keeping your jaw relaxed and teeth apart, this will help prevent clenching Massage the muscles on the outside of your jaw and... temples to reduce muscle tension If you think you may grind your teeth, your dentist may be able to provide you with a splint or mouthguard to relieve this and protect your teeth If jaw pain affects you, it’s a good idea to seek advice from your osteopath and dentist. Osteopaths can use a variety of techniques to treat this and will often work with your dentist to achieve the best outcome for you. Mayoclinic.org. 2018.
