24.01.2022 FRESHWATER: THEN AND NOW An ‘O’ class tram and the tram conductors at Harbord Terminus at the lower end of Moore Road around 1935. In February 1925 members of the Harbord Progress Association and Tramway League succeeded in getting a branch tramline to Harbord. The Tramline would depart the Manly Tram Depot; make a right hand through the Village shops, before finally terminating at Freshwater Beach. Passengers were allowed to smoke in the open smoking compartments and paperb...oys were typically seen selling their papers from the running boards before and after school. The fare from Manly to Harbord would typically cost threepence (equivalent to 97c in 2016). However, after 14 years the last tram departed from Harbord terminus at 2 a.m. on the 1st October 1939, resulting in the subsequent removal of the line. (Gordon 2000) Friends Of Freshwater Inc. 20.01.2022 There has been a recent installation of a sandstone plaque dedicated to local historian, Gwen Gordon (1927-2013), near Freshwater Beach. Ms Gordon was significant in collating and preserving much of the history behind Freshwater and was truly a respected local citizen for our community. Friends Of Freshwater Inc. Freshwater Beach

08.01.2022 Freshwater Antiques’ big annual summer garage sale is on this Saturday! We’re selling heaps of antiques, vintage and retro wares, as well as lots of tropical plants. We’re just up the road from the beach and its forecast to be hot, so it’ll be a great day to get a bit of a shop and surf done!

02.01.2022 FRESHWATER: THEN AND NOW Frank’s Shop circa 1926-1930 is one of the last remaining pre 1920s and fully intact original stone and brick shops in Freshie. Once selling mercery, stationary and hardware, it went onto become a real estate agency, pet-grooming salon, and more recently a woman's fashion and home wares boutique 23 Albert. A true Freshie gem well worth protecting in our opinion. Friends Of Freshwater Inc.
