25.01.2022 Great too have Linda Cooper to give us her support at the official opening of our new courts. Lots of happy members attended and expressed their love of our new surfaces. A big thank you to Ben from Alternaturf for doing a great job for us. I actually got to cut a ribbon with a little help from a very happy ex councilor and new LNP candidate for Barron River.

25.01.2022 Here is our Leader being interviewed by WIN TV who were very impressed that the Club paid for the courts with no major funding assistance...Dana and I also did an interview ....they will do a follow up when the courts are complete and prepare a story for the News then .... KB

17.01.2022 The Courts have been christened....

16.01.2022 30 tonnes of sand are now on the 3 Courts. The guys have worked like trojans all day to spread the sand by hand. Tommorow will be a day of fine tuning the dispersal of sand and hopefully Friday will be tidying and clean up loose ends. The aim is now to try and have the courts ready for Saturday. All is progressing well....only slightly over budget due to unforseen circumstances . Ben from Alternaturf is confident our Courts will be the envy of all and a great playing surface awaits our eager members....myself included .....KB @ L

14.01.2022 The club committee has gone through a stringent self-assessment checklist and put measures in place to comply with the guidance issued by Tennis Queensland. We are therefore pleased to announce the availability of limited court hire from 2 May under the following conditions: - Only financial club members may hire a court at this time - Only singles play or one-on-one coaching is allowed, with two individual players per booked session - Players must bring their own racquets an...d balls - All bookings are to be made online via the Book a Court system and any payments (e.g. for lights) must be made online during booking (no cash)https://freshwatertennis.org/hire/ - When making a booking, members must enter the name of the person they are playing with to facilitate contact tracing if required - All players are to read, understand and follow latest version of the Tennis Australia COVID-19 Community Tennis Guidelines for Continued Playhttps://www.tennis.com.au//COVID-19-Community-Tennis-Guide Please note that the committee has appointed a Centre Manager who will be conducting random checks. Any players flouting the community tennis or general social distancing rules may be asked to vacate the premises. Please stay safe by following official advice and we look forward to seeing you return to the court safe and well.

13.01.2022 Finally .....all new Courts 1 2 and 3 . The net on Court went up this afternoon and now we again have 4 surfaces ready for action . Bookings will be available online again from tommorow. Please be aware that although they are brand new surfaces the synthetic grass and sand will take some time to adjust to reach their playing optimum conditions. A little more rain and some "foot traffic" will assist in this process. Thanks to Alternaturf of Cairns for catching up time and being extremely careful in every process of their installing of the the new surface......signing off on this process ...Enjoy the new courts...cheers KB

12.01.2022 Finally the new straps are on the nets now that the last surface brushing was completed and the eyelets installed. The straps were hand made by Del and fitted by Brian myself and the dogs. The courts are now finally 100% completed. Contractors Alternaturf will apply one more manual sweep of the courts in a few weeks as a last "touch up" and that's that for Courts 1, 2 and 3.....now the big job of fundraising for court 4.....cheers K n L

12.01.2022 We now have three lovely new courts partly funded by Cairns Council.

11.01.2022 What an awesome Thursday evening everyone had at the ‘Freshwater Festival’ Hundreds of locals piled in for the extravaganza for an evening of tennis, live music, market stalls, bouncy castles & a whole lot more A massive thank you to the major sponsor, ‘Prawn Star’... On the exhibition tennis side we had a very high level ‘A Grade Men’s Singles & Mixed Doubles’ event finishing with the following awards: Men’s Singles: Taich Sato Paul Horn Mixed Doubles: Robyn Morove & Misty Ryder Dru Locus & Katie Sheridan Thank you to everyone that got involved, the Freshwater Tennis Club for hosting & a special mention to Kane Brown for organising what is an amazing concept!

11.01.2022 The Easter bunny visited our Tennis Club on Thursday night...he was very comfortable entertaining the kids....guess who ?????

10.01.2022 Approaching the last stage......Courts 2 and 3 are almost ready.....Court 1 still needs more sand and some finishing touches. Pretty soon some much needed water and a few sessions on court will help to "settle the surface" and firm it up for a clean bounce. Tommorow the juniors will be allowed on 2 of the courts once the nets are re-erected....cheers KB

09.01.2022 Another great week for the kids

03.01.2022 Fantastic to see how well our new courts are handling the conditions.......after serious rain this morning Courts 1,2 & 3 are ready to go....Court 4 however covered in puddles.....obviously they are draining extremely well as the photos were taken at the same time.....

02.01.2022 Congratulations Wendy Rider who was presented with the rare Freshwater Tennis Club's life membership honour. Her service over many years to the club on the Committee, as a function organiser, as a competition player and good spirited club member made her an obvious choice for this honour/award. Misty, Kyte and Lars the next 2 generations of Riders were there for the picture hanging on the "Wall of Fame" .....congrats and well deserved Wendy from all who have had the pleasure of your company at the Tennis Club
