When bills are paid by the sweat of signing new clients, being choosy seems to be a path to certain death for your training business. However, being selective about whom you work with and having a system for selecting clients are imperative to a trainer’s success (and sanity). Now, this is a very big topic, which can be challenging to sum up in a shortlist, but I'll do my best... How to Get More Clients By Creating the Ideal Client profile: 1. Find your niche market ("If you identify your best target customers and focus on the unique value you bring them, you strengthen your brand as well as your ties to these customers. -Denise Lee Yohn 2. Identify your perfect client - Your perfect client is the person within your niche market to whom you direct all of your marketing and sales efforts. 3. Recognise the traits of an ideal fitness client - i.e tun up on time, passionate about improving their health, great spokespeople for your business and so on 4. Recognise the traits of non-ideal clients - i.e turn up late for sessions, complain about pricing, don't follow rules of engagement around nutrition, etc. 5. Screen or "speed date" your prospects - Once you’ve found your client, it’s time to screen him or her, which will inevitably be a combination of many steps that will help you determine which prospects you’ll work with. 6. Refer out - if they are not your ideal, share the client with a friend who is...what goes around comes around! I'm sure there's more to consider, happy for anyone to add to the list! Make sure you have a sense of urgency (ex. if you contact them on Monday, you make sure you let them know the offer expires on Friday).
