25.01.2022 Check out beautiful video of Banksia Billabong, a little known treasure nestled next to Banksia St and part of the Yarra River's disappearing natural flood plain system. The Video was made by Andrew Lees, Riverlands Conservation Society (RCS)/Friends of Yarra flats Park to showcase this beautiful area whch is now under a new commercial development threat from Ecoline "Tree Tops " adventure park. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnGvp-E6_NQ&feature=youtu.be... If you're concerned you can still write to your ward Councilor and [email protected]. This oasis of the Yarra's riparian habitat is just not suitable for this activity.

24.01.2022 We need to push back on this.

24.01.2022 More bad behaviour by Government Agencies taking concerned communities and residents for a ride

23.01.2022 Courtesy of the hard working Montmorency Train Station Group - This is a petition calling for genuine consultation on Montmorency Train Station This new petition to parliament is asking that the Legislative Council call on the Minister of Transport Infrastructure to revise the timeline allowing for the community and LXRP to work together to develop a better project design for the Monty station that works foor the community and the environment. Bruce Atkinson MLC has agre...ed to table the petition. Please sign where it states...click here to sign If you want to help achieve a better project! https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/.../12/315Legislative Council E-Petitions - parliament.vic.gov.au These State Government - projects - Level Crossing Removal Projects, LXRP, North East Link Prohects and Major Roads Projects Victoria really must have more than sham consultation and the delivery model of just ramming projects through local communities - they don't even consider advice from our elected Councils.... Why are these projects so unnaccountable and so non transparent?

23.01.2022 Dont forget to sign the petition to save the River Red Gums and precious parkland at the Yarra Flats Park http://chng.it/Tt2nwzMq "There are much more sensible ways to improve our park than giving it away to a large French company to make money out of it. We are advocating for a well funded and managed park that highlights this precious River Red Gum forest, in the heart of Melbourne, along with its Indigenous significance and the special place the park has in the history of Australian Art as the inspirational subject of the Heidelberg School of painters. We are not against the idea of a ropes course but clearly a less environmentally sensitive area would be much more suitable for such an activity."

23.01.2022 Why are we doing long term damage to our environment and well being when the benefits of this project are now being seriously questioned. EG A myriad of other smaller building projects for community housing could done or even local road improvements & public transport projects. #rethinkNELink #NorthEastStink #SaveBanyule

22.01.2022 Back on the protest trail after covid measures - rain, hail or shine against the damaging North East Link. More protests to follow...

22.01.2022 Well its pretty obvious that this damaging, divisive project needs to be reviewed - especially in light of repeated environmental performance requirement failures.

19.01.2022 How good is this...? We need some good news.

19.01.2022 City of Banyule CoVid 19 case numbers up AGAIN today, as with many other Local Government Areas that are impacted by this project. Why are @northeastlinkproject @majortransportinfrastructurevictoria @VictoriasBigbuild and CPB Contractors doing such a poor job of managing THEIR contractors #NorthEastStinks #RethinktheNELink #springst #pisspoormanagement Dan Andrews Richard Wynne MP Jacinta Allan Anthony Carbines MP Banyule City Council #CoVid19Stage4restrictions TEXT From or...iginal post --- This is the fourth time this week since restrictions were announced that this has happened at the bottom of my driveway. @danandrews how is this acceptable on a State Government major infrastructure project? Putting the lives of residents and their kids at risk, metres from our homes during a pandemic. SHUT IT DOWN! #northeastlink #stage4restrictions #wearadamnmask ADDIT: Workers have smoking areas away from houses that they are supposed to be using as per advice we have received from the contractors. We have also had workers not on breaks, unmasked walking around outside during stage 4 restrictions. Masks are a requirement. They should be adhering to this. YES, we have reported the people not wearing masks problem repeatedly to the Contractors, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. YES, they are allowed to smoke and eat and drink but this is supposed to be at the site sheds provided to protect them and us during the pandemic. And YES, this is not the only issue that is impacting on our families from these works. We have had three days solid of noise intrusion while we're all trying to work from home and home school kids. And from next week, its going to be much worse. We will not have vehicle access to our homes for 2 to 3 months or more. Road saws and works going day AND night and no respite. And before anyone asks, YES, I have explored every option to try to make this work, or to try to find a solution to be able to move and NO, there isn't one with us ending up financially crippled or in unstable accommodation that doesn't fit a family of 5 for the period of works. I don't think asking them to wear a damn mask and smoke away from us is asking that much. I'd also add that just because supermarket shoppers aren't wearing masks properly doesn't mean this is ok. AND IF ANYONE THINKS I AM EXAGGERATING FROM THE COMFORT AND SAFETY OF THEIR QUIET HOME, I AM HAPPY TO SWAP HOUSES WITH YOU. Just let me know. I am looking at you Duncan.

18.01.2022 ***We are working with the STOP North East Link Alliance *** Tomorrow i(27th Feb) is our first Petition/information Event between 10 am & 12 noon outside Leos Supermarket in Heidelberg. Stop NEL Alliance have been working hard to get this appalling project stopped and reconsidered. They've letterboxed more than 30,000 flyers, surveyed all Council election candidates late last year for Banyule, Boroondara, Manningham and Whitehorse, and have been lobbying our new Councils to ...again push back against the project as they once did. We have had some success with getting them to listen, in the case of Manningham, and will keep on it. STop NEL Alliance also had an action with Friends of Banyule on Greeensborough Rd on January 29 and got some coverage on 7 News. This was a small action try-out. More actions to come!! Now that we are able, we are starting a street petition to the Legislative Council, which will be sponsored by one or more Members. Tomorrow SATURDAY 27th. OUTSIDE LEOS, Burgundy Street Heidelberg 10am to noon ish. Everything supplied including StopNorthEastLink t-shirts - except Facemasks (please have available to wear while petitioning). Please come along, say hello and show your support Would love to see you there !

15.01.2022 Despite losing power for some speakers including moi - this was an amazing event. Very powerful and informative presentations from all the panel speakers. NELP is the biggest issue facing Banyule and the NE of Melbourne. Friends of Banyule hopes to be involved in more of these online Community Panels on issues ramging from health impacts to sustainable transport alternatives. Thanks everyone for attending and look forward to seeing you at the next!!

15.01.2022 At the North East Link Project Tunnel Boring Machine Launch in Yallambie - Today's latest sad update. - works will be so close to homes that trees and shrubs abutting property boundaries and even within front yards are being taken out. - NELP and CPB accelerating tree removal - magpies and kookaburras are forlorn and now homeless. ... So many project management failures evident here..... More heart break on top of CoVid level 4 restrictions and impacts See more

14.01.2022 Really fantastic to see progressive women in Banyule supporting each other this council election - regardless of their political affiliations (if they have them). What a great council dynamic it would be if they all got in. More of this please. #RealClimateAction #FridaysForFuture

10.01.2022 Similarly when you put in big honkin' roads

09.01.2022 You have to question why the State Government through the North East Link Project is racing to destroy the beautiful Simpson Army Barracks Woodland, its centuries old trees and amazing habitat. And we don't even have the final plans yet!! Then there are the dreadful construction noise impacts which are not properly monitored and exceed EPA guidelines And for those abutting the project works they wont have vehicle access to their properties for 10 days! Disability Discrimination Act compliant - No #SaveBanyule #RethinkNELink

07.01.2022 Don't forget to tune in tonight to the Banyule City Council meeting - a very packed agenda. To name a few of the contentious or significant items: - Rosanna Library / Woolworths Turnham Av Development has resurfaced again ?? - Warringal Hospital is expanding, more towers planned, one which will present as 11 stories high and a development with a just passable ESD score - don't know how that's acceptable when other hospital developments easily outscore this one?? - The Heidelberg Structure Plan - Strategic Directions - impacting our already high housing density, lack of green lanscape in the Major Activity Centre and significantly more big tree loss to come with approved unsympathetic towers building boundary to boundary. THis plan so far has really failed to take into account the awful impacts of the North East Link

06.01.2022 This makes sense making more bottlenecks doesn't

06.01.2022 This is how close NELP works to homes, This is how little they care. Homes where there are no proper relocation plans, voluntary purchase schemes or compensation of any type. These folks will face seven years of construction loss and suffering. If you are impacted in any way - you need to complain Via [email protected] and big build 1800 105 105. 06.01.2022 Our protest made the Channel 7 evening news. More protests will follow. State Government, the North East Link Project and CPB Contractors need to Rethink the Link Thanks to all the brave souls who attended in the pouring rain! We will you and more all again!

05.01.2022 Thanks Leigh Naunton! 04.01.2022 Join us online on Thursday, 13 August for a community update on the North East Link Project. We’ll discuss what’s happening now and down the road, our legal challenge and followed by a Q&A session. Register beyond the link.

03.01.2022 Friends of Banyule are very pleased to be co-hosting this event. If you're interested in finding out more about the North East Link Project from knowledgeable people, many with skin in the game, come along to this Zoom forum. Go beyond the government spin and find out what's really happening. Also a fantastic opportunity to ask questions & to raise concerns with of the Panel members.

03.01.2022 We are lucky not to be affected by mining in Banyule but it is an industry that has a destructive impact on the environment and communities, particualry Indigenous communities, around the world.

02.01.2022 Don't forget to check into the BCC meeting tonight - especially for item 5.3 Major Transport Projects and Advocacy - Update We are hoping that the rather wishy washy statements about noting the project and progressing complimentary projects is strengthened to ensure that impacted residents health and wellbeing is safe guarded because North East Link Project and CPB staff aren't doing it, neither is the EPA or Worksafe - so we are desperate and looking for Council to advocat...e far more strongly on our behalf. Then there is the Fitzsimons Lane & Hurstbridge Rail duplication to worry about too If the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) and Major Roads Projects Victoria (MRVP) sing from NELPs playbook then residents, businesses and the environment will be badly impacted, kept in the dark and not consulted!

01.01.2022 important health information
