23.01.2022 We invite you into our garden at Maddingley Park.

21.01.2022 The Rose Carers have been extremely busy during the past two months - ten enthusiastic volunteers have been pruning two hundred and twenty roses including standards, climbers, hybrid teas, bush roses, carpet roses and weepers. Our two garden areas look bare but well-cared for and the structure of the plants can be seen. Our next job will be to fertilise the plants with Seamungus" and later "Sudden Impact for Roses both supplied by Neutrog.

20.01.2022 PAMELA PINNEY is a inaugural and important member of our group. This is a short biography of FOMP’s birth and of Pam's involvement. Pam joined the Maddingley Park Committee of Management as a community member. As a community member Pam had no links to any sporting groups within the Park that already were represented on the Committee. It became obvious at that time that there was little priority given to any passive areas within the Park, even though others had tried! It ...was agreed that we would form a Botanical Sub-Committee to address this anomaly. It soon became apparent that little financial support would be forthcoming from the Council to enable improvement in the areas identified. Pam therefore believed that by forming Friends of Maddingley Park (FOMP) we could at least have a chance to raise some funds and have a volunteer work force to carry out projects. Pam became Co-ordinator of FOMP to organize this around 2003. Our first achievement was the Friends Of Maddingley Park Commemorative Rose Garden wherein people donated money, in memory of their loved ones, for us to purchase the roses for planting. The Committee of Management provided some funding and we received a small grant from The Australian Open Garden Scheme to complete the 1st stage of our project. The garden was designed and established by the Maddingley Park Botanical Group in 2005. See more

02.01.2022 At our working bee in October eager to get our soil conditions right we have been flinging around the Arbour and the Archway Neutrog’s Whoflungdung. This is a certified organic, biologically activated super mulch.

01.01.2022 Winter pruning is a big job for our small team of volunteers. As there are 240 roses in our two gardens it is completed over a 7-8 week period. Now all shooting beautifully and enjoying the water and sunshine. We were again fortunate to have John Niewesteeg come up from his home in the East of the State to help us with pruning of the Heritage Rose Garden named after him. This is situated by the Rotunda behind the Footy ground. He is such a font of knowledge on his Heritage r...oses that he donated to us some years ago. He cannot believe how they thrive in our Marsh environment. After much research Ellen Coates contacted us some time ago to ask if she could obtain a cutting of our "Lady Woodward" rose as it is the only one in Australia and it was named after her Grandmother. Following on from this, her mother Penny Woodward also joined us for our pruning day and was able to take some cuttings to share with her family in memory of their relative. See more
