13.01.2022 MENDY URIE another great candidate standing for East Gippsland Council I am delighted to announce my intention to stand as a candidate in the East Gippsland Shire Council elections to be held in October this year and to formally launch my campaign today. Some people may remember that I was a councillor for East Gippsland Shire Council from 2005 2012, including serving 3 years as Mayor. Since retiring as a councillor in 2012 I have graduated from Swinburne University with a...n MBA and Master of Strategic Foresight and from Groupwork Institute with and Advanced Diploma in Group Facilitation. I have served on the Board of Bairnsdale Regional Health Service for 7 years and on the committee of Management of Bairnsdale Recycling Enterprise (The Tip Shop) also for 7 years. My study and experience give me a passionate interest in contributing to an East Gippsland which is future-focused, with strong, creative, connected communities and which actively engages in the challenge of climate change. I will be expanding on these topics in the weeks ahead and hope you can read and comment on my posts here. I can also be contacted via email: [email protected] Or by phone: 0455507799 Or regular mail: PO Box 239, Paynesville Please like my page and invite your friends in East Gippsland to like it also. I hope to encourage as many people as possible to actively engage with the campaign. The first task is for people to check that they are enrolled correctly. To be eligible to vote, you must be on the electoral roll. The roll closes THIS FRIDAY at 4pm on 28th August. Please check you are on the roll before this date on the Victorian Electoral Commission website https://www.vec.vic.gov.au//enrolling-for-local-council-el or phone them on ph 131832 After that, people will need to find out about who the candidates are and what they stand for. 05.01.2022 Dr Jane Greacen is running for EAST Gippsland Council. Jane has excellent environmental credentials, our future now has HOPE It’s official! I’ve decided to run for local office. I have worked in East Gippsland for more than 20 years as a GP, occupational physician and in hospital administration, and I have been committed to the health and wellbeing of the East Gippsland Community, particularly the Aboriginal Community. This election is important, coming during a pandemic a...nd following devastating bushfires and drought. People are traumatised, and we must now concentrate on preventing further physical, mental, and spiritual illness, and be ready to rebuild the health of our community and country and create employment in sustainable industries. The Shire has the resources to strengthen the programs that are needed. It just needs the focus. And it needs to listen to what people are saying. And it needs to access the stimulus funding from Federal and State governments to provide the incentives and support needed. We should expand our health services and facilitate access to them for all towns. We need safe workplaces, industries that do not pollute, more housing, sustainable jobs, arts, and sport, and importantly, a healthy environment. We need to support our young people to finish school and go to TAFE or university and return home with the skills needed for creating new industries and reforming old ones to be environmentally sustainable. The Shire must enact its Reconciliation Action Plan and become a leader in Aboriginal employment and programs that support the Aboriginal communities throughout the region. Declaration of a Climate Emergency would give us the direction to take control of the factors that are destroying our country. All of this can be achieved without increasing our rates. In fact, our rates should not be increased for at least the next 5 years during our recovery. See more
