25.01.2022 Aubigny is a very small town comprising of a country hotel, a few houses and a welding - assembly business.

25.01.2022 Leaving Tangkam and heading towards Yargullen. A small cutting through a stony ridge adjacent to the highway. Some tree and shrub growth has started to emerge along the railway lines.

23.01.2022 Early morning ride from Toogoolawah to Moore approaching Yimbum Tunnel, RH ide with through the tunnel.

21.01.2022 Afternoon all, thought I might go to Toogoolawah Showgrounds for a few days and have a ride on the rail trail. On a Wednesday and 7 bikes in Esk and so in a few hours I have seen or passed 17 bikes either in town or on the trail. Middle of the week and 24 bikes in a few hours. No wonder we want a rail trail on the downs. Here is just a little bit of the trail approaching the Showgrounds.

20.01.2022 Had the opportunity to ride with our daughter today, not exactly the rail trail but still a great day out. The Ipswich 100 is a charity ride to raise money for the hospitals.

18.01.2022 Following the line about 5 km from Oakey you come across the Oakey creek. Very beautiful spot considering the country has been in arguablly the worst drought we have been in. The last flood was 2011 and there is still a build of debris remaining on the bridge. To the west along the creek banks large numbers of trees have been planted and are now well established. Very lovely part of the country, as Michael Caron said in the movie The Castle feel the serenity.

18.01.2022 Just a catch with everyone. Still waiting to hear any results from the application that is currently in the hands of the decision makers. COVID 19 has played havoc with just about every aspect of our lives. This morning my son kindly drove me to Cecil Plains and I took the opportunity to ride back to Oakey via Mt Tyson. Couple of variations to the rail trail route. This time I had the road bike which meant I had to stay on the bitumen but also avoid the main highway as much as possible. Main road is in a shocking condition and most of the traffic wants to hug the middle of the road to avoid rough edges. Day started of with a coffee at the Cecil Plains Store and I might add we were served by a lovely pleasant lady which helped make the experience all the more pleasant.

16.01.2022 Great to read today that the Brisbane Valley Rail Trial is still open for those people who live nearby. The support for the rail trial has come from all walks of life especially in these challenging times. Give us hope that one day we shall see the same support for a opening of the Oakey - Cecil Plains rail trail. Thanks all.

15.01.2022 One section of the BRVT between Esk and Toogoolawah

15.01.2022 Approaching Aubigny at the Woodview School Road crossing, only about a kilometre to Aubigny

14.01.2022 Kingaroy rail station

14.01.2022 Cecil Plains used to be the end of the railway, but the Palaszczuk Labor Government wants this to be the beginning of a new rail trail. Minister for Transport,... Mark Bailey, announced a $45,000 study into a revitalised rail trail connecting Cecil Plains to Oakey for cyclists, horseriders and walkers. I’m particularly excited to see the tourism benefits a project like this could potentially bring for local cafes, hotels and accommodation providers as well as bike shops. We know that for every $1 spent on bike riding, $5 is returned to the local economy. What better way to invest in a small town like Cecil Plains. COVID has hit us hard, and the way back to economic prosperity is to invest in our future. This project will deliver on our commitment to Queensland’s plan for economic recovery.

14.01.2022 Murgon Rail station

13.01.2022 Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a the very best for the new year

13.01.2022 Went for a ride on Saturday from Oakey to Esk. 121 km for the day, Oakey, Goombungee, Crows Nest, The Bluff, Toolgoolawah, Esk to finish of the ride.

10.01.2022 Still at the creek, just west of the rail bridge and downstream is a nice rock crossing which may make a good crossing point in the future. Just need to confirm boundaries as fences have long been washed away. What a wonderful spot this is.

09.01.2022 Ride as per Strava

09.01.2022 Tangkam rail siding, these days just a bare block of ground and no evidence remaining other than the wider corridor where goods would have been loaded or unloaded. Trying to dig up some old photos etc but no luck so far. This was the first rail siding heading to Cecil Plains other than Boolee which was specifically built for the Abattoir at Oakey.

08.01.2022 Hi all, hope everyone is still fine during these testing times. I have recently spoke with Toowoomba City Council Reps to see if there has been any word on our application as yet. Still waiting on an answer from State Government. I also had the opportunity to have a discussion with Management of the Oakey Beef Exports because the rail line dissects their ground. Have to say they were very friendly, helpful and open during discussions. That is about it for present, just waiting on word, Stat safe and enjoy the ride.

07.01.2022 71.1 km from Cecil Plains to Oakey in 2 hours 35 minutes with an average speed of 27.2 km per hour. Do not expect those times if the rail trail ever opens.

03.01.2022 Morning everyone, I was lucky enough to be sent a copy of the Rail Trails Australia Mag and whilst very good reading there was one part in particular that was interesting. It related to the Mount Gambier 9 km rail trail. Putting the bitumen aside, the idea of just covering the tracks appeal to me very much. It is probably the most cost efficient way of proceeding quickly.

03.01.2022 Just like to say I hope you all have a great new year ahead and enjoy the festivities tonight

02.01.2022 Approaching Tangham you go through a small cutting in a stony ridge and on the other side is the rail siding. No one is grazing this section and it shows dried grassland evident.

02.01.2022 Over the long weekend we camped at Tingoora between Kingaroy and Murgon which just happened to be on the SBRT Kingaroy to Kilkivern. The section Kingaroy To Murgon is fully bitumen sealed and in better condition then some of the nearby roads. Absolute pleasure to ride on, and in complete safety for everyone. Noticed a lot of trees had been planted along the trail, some now established but the dry has affected some of the more recent plantings. Short video below of part of the trail.
