25.01.2022 We hope you will support this initiative to train young people in Baguia in Water Conservation.

24.01.2022 Some lovely views of Dili and surrounding areas, and of course Timor's infamous Microlets!

24.01.2022 Driving through Larisula village, we spied 3 women carrying water to their home. To our delight one of the women was Pascoela (left), who teaches English to students after school (with a small amount of funding from FoBaguia). Pascoela was happy to pause for a quick picture with their heavy loads. The women in Timor-Leste are always doing the heavy lifting!!

23.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS to the 38 students at Taur Matan Ruak Senior High in Osso Huna who passed their final year National Exams! Also to their teachers for teaching them so well in a very poor building. Congratulations to the 16 students from SATILOS Junior High who passed their National Exams so they can move up to Senior High next year. This is a fantastic 100% pass rate for the schools.... PARABENS!! See more

22.01.2022 Why not drop by Glen Waverley on Saturday (19th Oct) and check out this GRAND FETE! There's so much to see, do, buy and eat! ALL proceeds go to local and overseas community projects, and Friends of Baguia has been one of the fortunate recipients of project grants from this annual Fete.

21.01.2022 The Baguia community is desperate for emergency food assistance and have asked Friends of Baguia for help. We aim to initially supply sacks of rice as this is their biggest need and we hope to provide further assistance as needed.

21.01.2022 Great to see the publication of this book promoting the message "No Smoking in the Home" with support from Many Hands International, Lospalos

19.01.2022 Feliz Natal & Happy Christmas!! Thankyou to the young people of Baguia and Mana Leopoldina, who made this beautful, heartwarmimg video - singing in Tetun and English!

17.01.2022 Parabens Mana Leopoldina! Friends of Baguia are delighted to congratulate Sra. Leopoldina Guterres on being presented with the Sergio Vieira de Mello Award by HE Francisco Guterres, President of Timor-Leste. This annual award on International Human Rights Day (10th December) recognises those who have dedicated themselves to the promotion and protection of human rights in Timor-Leste. Friends of Baguia are proud to have met Mana Leo on our first visit to Baguia in 2005 and she has since then remained an invaluable project co-ordinator enabling us to maintain a 'friendship' and successfully support the Baguia community in so many ways.

16.01.2022 Don't trap them, kill them or buy them. Great work on your conservation in Timor-Leste, Potenzo Lopes!

16.01.2022 When it rains in Baguia it is torrential! Udan Boot! (Turn on sound to HEAR that rain!) This was the Osso Huna team a week ago working on the final cross-bracing of the TMR school roof, and installing the windows. Fmr Osso-Huna

15.01.2022 This year Friends of Baguia initiated a School Garden program in Baguia schools. In May a 3-day hands-on Permaculture Training was conducted by Ego Lemos and his team from PERMATIL to representatives from 14 schools. Many of these schools have now have built their own school gardens - as these amazing photos show. Through the gardens, students are learning about better growing methods, seed germination and improved nutrition. This project was generously supported by the Noel and Carmel O'Brien Family Foundation, and Glen Waverley Uniting Church.

Protecting all people from domestic violence, but particularly women and children, is a key focus of the partnership between the Timor-Leste Police Development Program and the Policia Nacional Timor-Leste’s Vulnerable Persons Unit. Did you catch this short video which has been screening on RTTL LIVE and GMNTV live streaming over the Christmas period? The Vulnerable Persons Unit has specially trained investigators who deal with domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse allegations. If any member of the community is a victim of family violence, they can contact the VPU on 3331283 for assistance.

09.01.2022 Last week Pascoela (Our English language teacher) organised a graduation ceremony for her 33 students in Larisula. Pascoela (red shirt on right) is pictured with her students holding their certificates, as well as Judy and Derarca, teachers from Larisula High and two Village Leaders (Xefe). We had a lovely afternoon, with lots of Timorese speeches - it was heartening to hear how much learning English in Larisula (a village on the border of Baguia sub-district) is appreciated. And of course it can help students get a better mark in their national exams.

06.01.2022 Taur Matan Ruak Senior High School, in Osso Huna now has a red roof! The school lost its roof only weeks after the new building was opened in January 2018. Friends of Baguia are proud to have been able to support the installation of this new roof, so students can move back into their building. Fmr Osso-Huna... Under the guidance of the Principal, Sr. Luis Menezes Takur, the community of Osso Huna and the TMR students have worked hard to get this project completed before the wet season. We are grateful for the expertise of Sr. Salvador A. Castelho our building team leader with the hard working Osso Huna men; Sr. Antonio, Sr. Caitano, Sr. Cornellio, Sr. Samuel and Sr. Nelson. They completed the roof in only 15 working days! A BIG Thanks to all our donors, without whom this could not have been achieved. East Timor Holding Co. in Australia donated almost half the cost of the roof, which was fabricated in Baucau at East Timor Roofing (from imported Australian steel). Also, thanks to our major donor Noel & Carmel O’Brien Family Foundation.

06.01.2022 Please SHARE this with all your Timorese friends; this is the official announcement of the first case of Covid-19 in Timor-Leste. It explains the symptoms and the best hygiene practices to prevent catching the virus.

05.01.2022 There is no lack of colour in Timor transport!

03.01.2022 So this was the beginning of the work for the 6 man team of builders! 29 October was the day the custom made metal roof trusses were delivered from East Timor Roofing in Baucau. Thanks to the recent grading of the road from Baguia to Osso Huna - the truck could deliver right into TMR School grounds!

02.01.2022 Baguia is situated on the eastern side of Mt Matebian.

02.01.2022 More photos that show the roof trusses constructed onto the School building and the corrugated iron roofing (zinc) being installed. This was all supported by the work from the TMR students and teachers. A BIG THANKS to everyone who helped on this construction. Obrigada barak! Fmr Osso-Huna
