23.01.2022 And now for something really cool on a Friday night. Past student, singer songwriter Diamond Vargas is down to the final 10 in a Listen Up, Australian songwriting prize. The semifinal will take place on October 17. Listen Up promotes the unique ability of music to unite and heal. 22.01.2022 The Elwood College School Council is delighted to officially announce that Todd Asensio has been appointed Principal, after a formalised DET interview process. Todd has been Acting Principal for the past 18 months and has shown strong leadership through a challenging time. He was appointed Assistant Principal at Elwood College in 2012, and was previously at Melbourne High for 8 years. The college community congratulates Todd on his appointment.



20.01.2022 Year 11 Legal Studies teacher Alanah Jessop, reported that her class had a very enjoyable virtual meeting with the Governor of Victoria Linda Dessau and her husband Mr Howard QC,live from Government House. This was part of the Governor in Schools Program which provides an opportunity for students to learn about the role of the Governor in our democracy and system of government.

17.01.2022 And now for something lighter... past student, acclaimed Melbourne jazz singer, music teacher, pianist,guitarist and past student Lillian Albazi ( 2007-12) now has a new alt indie rock band; Great Falls. Lillian says she owes her career to the special culture in the Elwood College music department and the professional development she got from participating in school musicals and events on the stage of our very own Phoenix Theatre. 17.01.2022 Last week Elwood College had its first ever online Transition day for Grade 6 students. Sit back, relax and let teachers and students give you a virtual tour of the school and explain what they really love about the learning environment. You can even do an online science experiment, basketball workout or make chocolate yum yum balls. A very warm ( early) welcome to the college for the 2021 Year 7s and any other new students. 15.01.2022 A big, warm welcome back to school for Years 8-10 next Monday. Next week will be the last week of scheduled classes for our year 12s and they have planned COVID safe activities to celebrate. The Year 12s will have their Graduation ceremony from 3.30 pm next Friday Oct 30 and this will be live-streamed for family and friends. We know how important this ceremony will be for students, and we are so proud of every single one of them.

09.01.2022 This afternoon’s emotional Year 12 Graduation Ceremony which was live-streamed to 145 parents, families and friends, opened with moving speeches from school captains Neelu Siddhu and Duke Wilson and closed with teachers reading Dr Seuss’s book Oh the Places You Will Go. Mr Costolloe, the Year 12 coordinator paid tribute to a wonderful student group and certificates were presented to the 120+ cohort in their home rooms. Congratulations to Lorien Medina and Duke Wilson who are the 2020 Valedictorians. Farewell to you all and thank you; every single one of you, for your contributions to school life over the years and for your perseverance and cheerfulness in a tough year.

08.01.2022 On World Teacher’s Day in Australia we salute all of the teaching staff at Elwood College. In an exhausting and turbulent year you have worked so hard to support all students and have put in long hours to ensure that online learning is engaging and motivating. We thank all of you sincerely for your professional and caring approach.

04.01.2022 Congratulations to year 7 student Finlay Van Lieshout, who with his brother Kai are the School Category winners in the 2020 Victorian Design E-Waste Challenge. The boys designed an Ez-Recycle App to connect people who have electronics they no longer need, with people that can make good use of them. The Jury, chaired by ABC presenter Craig Reucassel, commended the originality and clarity of the idea and believe the app has great potential for development and implementation. Finlay and his peers at Elwood College are looking forward to enjoying the NGV prize pack next term which includes a talk and exhibition.

04.01.2022 Hon Michael Kirby, eminent retired Barrister and Judge, attended state schools and is an advocate for public education.
