19.01.2022 As the Covid19 situation in Victoria is still unstable, all classes continue to be on hold until Covid19 restrictions are lifted and we receive the green light from CoGG. The sub-committee of GSBA are busy behind the scenes addressing changes to how we would normally manage classes. Whatever decisions are made, the safety of students and tutors will be utmost in our considerations and we will be monitoring the situation closely. We will keep you updated as we go. Looking forward to seeing you all again. Artwork by Joan Moncrieff - Nymphaea alba

10.01.2022 We are delighted to present the new logo for the Geelong School of Botanical Art designed by Niki Coates, Graphic Designer and student at the School. The logo was inspired by the historic Gingko biloba tree which has stood in the gardens since 1859. Niki’s design process began with thorough research; an in-depth review of global botanical schools and other relevant community logos, and a visit to the Gingko tree to sketch and collect samples for inspiration. Approximatel...y 40 preliminary pen and paper sketches were generated to brainstorm ideas. From these, Niki chose to use a single leaf specimen collected from our iconic tree and created a series of leaf rubbings using different graphite grades. Adding sketches of the tree’s gingko seed, Niki worked the two elements to create design variations. Typographic styles, texture and colour combinations were chosen to create balance and legibility. The final logo design is simple and flexible, it distinguishes the school whilst complementing the Friends of Geelong Botanic Gardens and Geelong Botanic Gardens logos. See more
