21.01.2022 We visited a local cinnamon plantation and processing plant. The leaves are steamed for 6 hours to extract cinnamon oil which is used in balms and perfume. The cinnamon bark is removed from branch by hand and allowed to dry before sending to markets. We finished with a fresh coconut juice straight from the coconut.

20.01.2022 We visited Redakahena tea plantation and factory. Tea in Sri Lanka is picked by hand. Afterwards we tasted different varieties of tea. It was very interesting and the tea delicious.

16.01.2022 The men went off to collect coconuts and Jack fruit from the trees. The jackfruit is cut up, put in a pressure cooker, later skinned, cut smaller and made into a curry. A hand machine took the flesh from the coconut and spreads it. Then any juice is squeezed out to produce coconut milk. Tuna fish caught this morning, had garlic, ginger, turmeric, curry leaves plucked from the tree made a tasty dish. The food is so varied and absolutely delicious.

12.01.2022 Day 3 - we boarded the bus for Galle. A stop at the seaside memorial for the 50000 victims of the 2004 tsunami. Onward to Galle Fort - don’t fall foul of the law Allan. In the afternoon we stopped at Meetiyagoda moonstone mine. Villagers mine the seam manually, the stones are shaped, polished and set in gold, white gold or silver onsite. A large display of jewellery is available for purchase in the show room.

05.01.2022 In the afternoon our hosts took us to a members home and produced a wonderful evening complete with bonfire, camp cooking, fellowship and traditional Sri Lankan entertainment. Our hosts have gone above and beyond to give us a unique and fabulous experience. And more to come tomorrow. Amazing!
