23.01.2022 In 2001, the All Saints Cemetery Masterplan Report recommended the removal of trees which are contributing to grave plot damage. 16 years later, the problem hasn't been addressed.

22.01.2022 Parramatta Council has employed Toolijooa to start working on pruning, weeding and general plant maintenance around the graves of All Saints Cemetery. They started on Tuesday 21st November and from what the workers reported they will be hard at it for one day per month for the next nine months. This hardly seems adequate but it’s a start. Check out some of their progress.

22.01.2022 George Handley, a stonemason, was born in Middleham, Yorkshire, England in 1818. On the 16.12.1844, in Bradford, Yorkshire, he married Grace Holmes (born 3.4.1827 Oakenshaw, Yorkshire). Two children were born; Mary Jane in 1848 and Robert in 1853. Unfortunately, Robert died the following year. With their five-year-old daughter Mary Jane, George and Grace immigrated to Australia as assisted immigrants aboard the ‘David McIver’ arriving in Botany Bay on the 18.12.1854. George c...ould read and write, Grace could do neither. The family resided in Parramatta where three more children were born; Emma 1856, George 1857 and Grace 1860. In 1861, baby Grace died at six months and is buried with her parents at All Saints Cemetery. Not much is known about the family’s life in Parramatta. However, their daughter Mary Jane married Thomas Anlezark whose grandfather, also named Thomas, was a Mounted Trooper who took part in the Battle of Vinegar Hill at Castle Hill, Sydney against rebellious Irish convicts. Thomas, (the Trooper) is portrayed in an old painting depicting the battle. The 1978 Australian mini-series ‘Against the Wind’ (starring Jon English), included a scene of the ‘Battle of Vinegar Hill’ with Trooper Thomas Anlezark. Mary Jane and Thomas had nine children the eldest three born in Parramatta. George Handley died 3.7.1874 (56) from TB. Grace died 23.10.1906 (79) from senile decay. by Rose Lee, George & Grace’s gr, gr granddaughter George and Grace Handley are buried on the north western side of the central north-south pathway.

21.01.2022 I discovered a real gem yesterday...original wooden grave surround posts.

18.01.2022 The City of Parramatta Council has provided the All Saints Cemetery with two new seats to enjoy the ambience. Many thanks to Nicole Thornton for her efforts last year as Open Space Officer for the Council to improve the Cemetery.

17.01.2022 Prepared for Parramatta City Council in 2001.

15.01.2022 The All Saints Cemetery Concept Masterplan of March 2001 includes a recommendation for an Unmarked Burial Memorial (on the western boundary) commemorating the unmarked graves of children from the orphan school and the victims of the pneumonic plague who are buried throughout the cemetery. A flowering tree grove of Jacarandas would provide a shaded seating area at this memorial. There are also six sites for additional seating on the eastern and western borders of the cemetery to let visitors enjoy the ambience of the cemetery.

14.01.2022 Earlier this week Toolijooa did some more pruning and tidying up around the northern end of the All Saints Cemetery. Take a look... The Council has promised money to straighten some of the headstones this year. They have given the All Saints Cemetery Committee the green light for tiding up the weeds and overgrowth at the north western border of the cemetery in the garden beds (not near the graves). The Council has also promised to provide more plants for the northern and southern border garden beds. The Cemetery is looking really green at the moment with the recent rainfalls...well worth a wander around!

08.01.2022 A perfect Sunday afternoon at All Saints Cemetery.

07.01.2022 The Friends of All Saints Cemetery Committee would like to acknowledge and thank the Executive members, Marc Croker, Bruce and Robyn Evans, and Rodney Carroll, for their efforts since the AGM in April 2017. As a new Executive they took on a large agenda for the year and with the help of Nicole Thornton and Erin Hrouda from Parramatta Council, the Cemetery has looked better than it has in years. We thank Council for: 1. Repainting the seats near the Memorial Wall 2. Getting T...oolijooa to come once a month to work on plant maintenance around the cemetery 3. Adding two more seats on the northern and eastern border of the cemetery 4. Planting more plants with the help of Bruce and Robyn to the southern end of the cemetery 5. Removing trees growing from within graves that had been there for over 17 years 6. Improving the drainage at the southern end of the cemetery on the corner of Short St and Fennell St. 7. Identifying and securing funding for headstone straightening The Executive Committee changed the bank account to a society bank account that no longer attracts account fees. They set up the Facebook page to showcase the All Saints Cemetery and they met with Friends of St Johns, Mays Hill and St Patricks Cemetries to encourage and support the guardianship of these historical spaces. In further good news the same Executive was re-elected to their same roles for another 12 months at the AGM a couple of weeks ago. We look forward to seeing more great improvements at All Saints Cemetery. Marc Croker - Chairman Bruce Evans - Secretary Rodney Carroll - Treasurer

07.01.2022 The southern boundary hedge of All Saints Cemetery has had a significant trim recently allowing some views not seen for many a year.
