21.01.2022 ONLY 30 SLEEPS UNTIL POOL SEASON OPENS !!! Now the chilly season is finally behind us and we can begin to imagine the bliss of jumping into some cool clear Avenel water it’s time to take a look at what’s been happening at our big blue waterhole. Maybe you’ve noticed the NEW FENCE AND BIGGER LAWN?... Or the SPANKING NEW CHANGEROOM ROOF? Perhaps you’ve caught a glimpse of some NEW PICNIC TABLES or the sleekly appointed ‘TIMBER LOUNGING PLATFORMS ?! All these new sights are thanks to a remarkable collaboration between our hard working local volunteers (Action Group and Friends of the Avenel Pool) and the Strathbogie Shire, who kindly came through with a much appreciated injection of funds late last year. The Shire are rounding out their pools agenda across the region this month with a final survey and some community chat sessions, the results of which will make their way into a new Regional Pool Strategy. Hopefully this report will give us some leverage for seeking bigger pools (pardon the pun) of funding in the future to help keep our pool open and fund exciting new evolutions a kids' splash arena or separate heated lap pool perhaps! 20.01.2022 What fun we had at the POOL'S 50TH BIRTHDAY !!! Does it have to close for the year... so soon..... boo hoo. Maybe if the temperature stays up we'll get another week or so ?! Cross fingers. Who'd like to come to an end of season bbq? Action Group can arrange if we have enough interested. Thoughts?

17.01.2022 END OF POOL SEASON COMING UP SOON: How good is the pool looking these days?! Big thanks to all those dedicated volunteers who oversaw the refurbishment of the change rooms and installed such neat new furniture features around the place. The nights are growing cooler and it's nearly time to brush off the cover in preparation for our final open day on Monday 12 March (Monday of the long weekend.) Make the most of this last week and take a plunge or post a fave pic here for others to see, and please say thanks to our dedicated pool staff - Cloe and Matt - for their good care of us all over the season. See you next summer!

16.01.2022 So exciting to see two new platform benches going in at the Pool in time for opening Thurs day. Great initiative by Steve Garner with Seymour college and realised with the hole digging skills of son Tom, plus a little sweat from John T. Tim B and Jeff M. Sun shiney new colour on seats and in the classrooms too - thanks to our working bee crew from Neighbourhood House, Avenel Sationeers and sundry good souls . Go team !!!

14.01.2022 FIFTY YEARS OF SUNBLOCK LYCRA STAINS AND CHLORINE RED -EYE! Can you believe it... Avenel Pool is turning 50 this year? How to celebrate....? Apparently, Avenel Action Group and the Shire have some funding available to help revamp the venue for the coming season. And the good folk of town have already come up with some ideas: - The changerooms - The entrance & grounds appearance/ amenity... - A new splash play area for littlies So... we need a small Working Group to move things along over the next few months. A group of, say, 10 smiling swimmers would be ideal. Please come along on the 24th or, if you can't, drop your Count me in note in one of the Pooling Ideas boxes (at Avenel Primary, the Post Office or Neighbourhood House.) Look out too for Pool Working Bees - first one SATURDAY 28 AUGUST 10-12 noon. See more

13.01.2022 Hello there fans of Avenel Pool. Blossom is on the tree which means...... Summer is somewhere on the horizon ! We're looking for a new person in town to manage this page as the pool season comes in - to liven it up and perhaps even organise an opening day event? Blue sky - or should I say water- is the dreaming space here friends so jump in . Please rescue me before I attempt any more bad pool puns..... ... 10.01.2022 Hey all - survey going out a round town this week about warmer water in the old Avenel Pool for next summer. What do you think...? The Avenel Pool Friends and the Avenel Action Group are collaborating to keep Avenel Pool a vibrant community centre in the summer months. 09.01.2022 WHERE DID YOU FIRST LEARN TO SWIM? SHARE A STORY.... My first memory of water is being tumbled by a wave at Neilson's Park beach in Sydney. Sand and grit in teeth... humbling but exciting too. Think I was about 6. I also recall some truly awful swimming lessons as a primary school kid, at a public pool in Hawthorn. The instructor used a long pole to prod kids along instead of getting into the water with us. Scary and weird! Would just not happen these days....... And yet... swimming laps at university kept me sane through years of study and I now love the beach. Have fantasies about being an old lady living by the sea one day. And you...?
