24.01.2022 FISH STOCKING PROGRAM FOR 2020 - RIVERS & FISH TYPE With many comments of falling fish levels in our waterways in previous year, we are encouraged by VFA stocking program for 2020. It confirms current and future increases. View link for which rivers are being stocked and with which native fish. Goulburn does well... We want more Victorians spending time outside and active, and what better way than fishing with family and friends. Minister for Fishing and Boating Jaala Pu...lford (on VFA website). 15.01.2022 Erskine Falls, Erskine River, Otway National Park (yesterday). Open to FUL SCREEN, to see all of falls. 30 metres falls in the Erskine River that meets the ocean near Lorne. Flow is plentiful still, yet not as dramatic as Meg's great capture of the falls a couple of weeks ago. Photograpghy: Victorian Creeks & Rivers Page.

08.01.2022 Maits Rest Otways After waiting for over a year, Maits Rest in the Otways is finally opened after being closed for extensive track renovations and to fell any dangerous trees. The walk encompasses beautiful fern gardens, lush tree ferns and giant rainforest trees up to 300 years old. The old decaying wooden boardwalk has been replaced by metal grill which has been built over the tree-fern gullies and moss-covered roots of ancient rainforest trees in order to protect the delicate ecosystem.

05.01.2022 Long Forest Nature Conservation Reserve is a 600 hectare protected area of Mallee scrub between Melton and Bacchus Marsh. I thought yesterday's hike was tough but today's 10k plus hike OMG!!! We had far more steep hills and valleys, slippery shale and clay AND rain to contend with but so much fun.... Finished the day with coffee and homemade Berry pie at Mona's Cafe in Bacchus Marsh...
05.01.2022 Californian Redwood Forest, a hidden gem in the Otways The 85-year-old plantation is left over from the logging industry that used to operate here in the 1930s. Today, the 60m high trees make for an enchanting, peaceful place to wander through. With the Aire river trickling by to one side and dense ferns and native trees closed around it, this is a little pocket of natural magic you’ll want to spend hours soaking up.
01.01.2022 Fainter Falls, Fainter Creek, above Bogong township. It annoys me that so often official falls commentary makes no mention of the creek or river that is source of the falls. Is it thought we just want a "falls hit" without knowing the source? If so, maybe they are right for some. Either way, we seek to always include its source. Ern Photo: The Bushwalking Blog.
