22.01.2022 Council is seeking community feedback on its proposed Biodiversity Action Plan. Edit: it looks like you can still submit a survey. Pls check out the link. I didn’t realise what the process was for this. There was a community consultation session last night. But even if this round of consultation is closed, there will be another round of feedback soon, so get your ideas ready to submit...... Please check out the link and think about any ideas you have for protecting and increasing biodiversity in the area. https://www.greaterdandenong.vic.gov.au/biodiversity-action

19.01.2022 Exciting news! The council will be starting work next week on rehabilitating the billabong in the reserve (near the low bridge at the bottom gate). The contractors will be clearing some bushes in the area so they can access the billabong, starting the first week of May. They will be removing silt buildup in the billabong, and eventually revegetating it. The restored billabong will be more effective at filtering the creek water, and will provide habitat for aquatic plants and animals.

15.01.2022 Not local, but it was good to finally get to the coast. And fascinating to see how different the vegetation is there, although a lot of it is still familiar. This was at Flinders and the Blowhole.

12.01.2022 City of Dandenong has started a Gardens for Wildlife program. Have you heard of it? Sounds like other councils may have it already established, but Dandenong is just getting started. Basically two volunteers come out to your home and give you suggestions (kindly) of how you could encourage more wildlife in your garden. They are not there to scold you on anything you might be doing wrong, just to give you free advice that might suit your circumstances. Sounds good to me! Here's a short video about how it works. https://youtu.be/nHyh9_TCnrE

07.01.2022 It’s so lovely to have close contact with our beautiful birdlife! This is just a gentle reminder to find out how to do it the right way so you are not killing them with kindness.

04.01.2022 Did you know there is such a thing as 'zombie' trees, where the surrounding trees help to keep a stump alive?!?! https://theconversation.com/the-mysterious-existence-of-a-l
