24.01.2022 It is important to look after our natural bushland and not introduce diseases - which can enter on your shoes or even your car tyres.

23.01.2022 Did you know that there is a native that looks like a Forget-me-not? We have some in our indigenous garden end, so don't pull them out! The Cynoglossum australe (Australian Hound's-tongue) is a small herb that grows up to 70cm high and looks very much like the introduced one (Myosotis sylvatica).

23.01.2022 Just some of the winter flowers on the walk

21.01.2022 You never know who or what you'll see on The Walk. We found this Swamp Wallaby last night making his way towards Flinders Ave, though he wasn't quite sure about us being there.

20.01.2022 Do you have this problem too...?

19.01.2022 We will have our 2021 calendars for sale down at the walk this Sunday morning (9am-11am). Bring your $15 (or multiples of $15 if you want more calendars) if you want to pick one up and have our wonderful flowers bring a smile to your face throughout 2021.

19.01.2022 We received these lovely photos of our Walk from Barb Kinnersley, taken on a tour we conducted last year. Thank you for sharing with us Barb!

19.01.2022 Kevin Hoffman Walk 63 Walkers Rd, Lara The Kevin Hoffman Walk is Lara’s native garden trail that stretches along the east side of the Hovells Creek. ... The Walk is a gentle walking track that showcases a unique collection of native plants, sculptures, birds and wildlife. The track is an easy walk for kids, including toddlers. There are a few steps but nothing a pram couldn’t handle of your willing to lift it over a few bumps. Park at the end of Walkers Rd for the start of the walk & turn left. The path gently winds along with lots for kids to explore & closer to the creek where there are plenty of ducks. You can walk further in each direction along the path but the native gardens are only in this section. There is plenty of seating along the way. Lara town Centre is close by which has a decent playground (https://boobobutt.com.au/directory/austin-park/) Skate Park, Regional Library & cafes / shops. Age Recommendation: 1-7 - Quiet, Nature, Unique, Shade - No facilities https://boobobutt.com.au/directory/kevin-hoffman-walk/ #geelong #greatergeelong #geelongkids #geelongparks #geelongplaygrounds #geelonglife #livelovegeelong #parkguru #mygeelong #visitgeelongbellarine #laravic #kevinhoffmanwalk #friendsofkevinhoffmanwalk #kevinhoffmanwalklara @friendsofkevinhoffmanwalk

17.01.2022 Want to know what's in flower in the Western Victorian Volcanic Plains (that's where we are too!) at the moment?-Or what will grow well in your garden? Why not join this live walk.

16.01.2022 Sharing this after our post yesterday. The snakes are around because it's been warm and The Walk is close to the water. Snakes are endothermic - they require the heat of the day to move around freely (this is when they usually feed too). We don't want you to stop visiting and enjoying The Walk, we'd like you to keep a little more vigilant on warmer days and keep yourselves, kids and dogs out of the garden - even better, just pop your doggo on a leash whilst walking through.... Our friend was out and after a dead bird in the garden (which i didn't show in the photo), so it was the other birds that actually alerted us to it's presence. Take care, stay safe.

15.01.2022 You could submit your photos of the Walk to be included in next year's City of Greater Geelong calendar

15.01.2022 This is our indigenous Austral Tobacco (Nicotiana suaveolens). It's common in the You Yangs, Brisbane Ranges and Werribee Plains but is fairly rare in Victoria outside those areas (there are a couple of other small populations in the state). It's not a type of tobacco that you smoke, it's actually a little toxic if ingested. It does, however, produce it's tubular white flowers in spring and summer.... Admire and take photos, not plants or plant material.

14.01.2022 Listen to Ranger Ebonee, a proud Wadawurrung woman discuss her cultural connections at Wurdi Youang/You Yangs Regional Park. 14.01.2022 We are excited! One month to go til the Aussie Backyard Bird Count! Australia’s largest annual bird count event is back for its 7th year! Held between 192...5 October, the Aussie Backyard Bird Count is a great way to connect with the birds in your backyard, no matter where your backyard happens to be. You can count in a suburban backyard, a local park, a patch of forest, down by the beach, or the main street of town. In fact, you don't even have to leave home, making it the ultimate Covid-safe activity! To take part all you need is 20 minutes and your favourite outdoor space. Not only will you be contributing to BirdLife Australia's knowledge of Aussie birds, but there are also some great prizes on offer. Head over to the Aussie Backyard Bird Count website and register as a Counter today! https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ The yearly bird count gives us a snapshot in time of bird numbers around the nation so if you’ve participated before and are raring to go remember the app doesn’t kick in until the count begins on 19 October (one month to go!). #AussieBirdCount See more

07.01.2022 Matt our Gardener is definitely a Full-Throttle Bloomin Wattle. I, on the other hand, think i'm a bit of a Numbnut Gumnut (and a Cranky Banky at times ;))

07.01.2022 Have you been enjoying the beauty of The Walk during this crazy COVID lockdown of 2020? Did you know that The Walk has around one thousand different species of Australian native plants crammed between Station Lake Rd & Flinders Ave? Of which, around 120 species are indigenous to this area! The Friends of Kevin Hoffman Walk group, together with the City of Greater Geelong, help to maintain and beautify the paths and gardens on the eastern levee bank of Hovells Creek. We contin...ue what Kevin Hoffman himself created over 40 years ago for the community to enjoy. So, would you have a spare hour or so a month to contribute to a community asset like the Kevin Hoffman Walk? We are looking for members to join our active committee at our Annual General Meeting on October 7th. Don't know much about plants or gardening? That's ok, not everyone does but you might have skills, knowledge, ideas and a heap of enthusiasm that would make you a perfect fit. Interested? Send us a DM (direct message) or an email at [email protected] for more information. Don't want to join the committee but want to support The Walk in some way? Become a member - or a sponsor! Annual memberships start at $15. Contact us for a membership form (or download one from the link in the comments). For more information on joining other local businesses like Lara District Community Bank Branch, LARA dental, Bisinella Developments, Lara Window Shutters, Ray White Lara, Lara Chamber of Commerce & Lara Physiotherapy Health Network to become an esteemed gold, silver or bronze sponsor, please send us an email.

06.01.2022 Starting from this Saturday, we are holding an online vote. You can help us to decide which of our final 12 photos will take pride of place on the front cover of our 2021 calendar - just like Yvonne Verheem's in 2019 and Madeleine Lowe's this year. The link to the vote will be posted this Saturday morning and will be live for only 7 days!... We'd also love it if you'd also consider becoming a member to help us continue to keep the walk looking as wonderful as it is.
