22.01.2022 WHEN SHOULD AUSTRALIA DAY BE? We in New South Wales , mark 26th January as Australia Day, as that was when the Colony of NSW was established with the landing of... convicts and troops at Sydney Cove in 1788. For people in other states and territories there are separate dates for when their colonies or territories were established. In most modern democracies, there is a national date for celebrating the coming together of the there nation. For Australia, 1st January 1901, was the date the SIX COLONIES became a united COMMONWEALTH as a NATION. We area aware Bob Hawke decided the 26th was our national day, but should we not consider 1st January as more appropriate. On that date a great procession march from the Domain to Centennial Park, where the Governor General read the Proclamation of the Commonwealth of Australia.. The Prime Minister and Federal Cabinet were sworn in. 60,000 citizens were involved and Sydney celebrated with fireworks and other events for a WEEK. 1st January 1901, the foundation of the Nation of Australia.

22.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY 11 NOVEMBER 2020 The Governor of NSW, conducted the only official Remembrance Day Service in our State today. As I was delayed in the Barber's I strolled down Forest Road, Hurstville at about 11.10a.m. to a b;leak site. For the first time since the memorial was opened there were no wreaths. Three Council Governance Officers stood around and I had a yarn to them expressing sadness that no commemoration was observed. Also discussed some of the people who were noted on the Memorial which of interest to the council men. In the afternoon after purchasing flowers, went to the memorial and found the good members of the South Hurstville RSL had laid a wreath. I also laid the flowers. Thanks to the South Hurstville Branch for their remembering the Principal Memorial in the The Old Hurstville LGA.
