25.01.2022 A City Nature Challenge event: An Evening of Moth Lighting and Discovery with iNaturalist, was held in Koolunga last night when we observed a wide range of moths and bugs through Moth Light Trapping. Thanks to expert entomologists an enthusiastic group of participants viewed and learnt about these diverse creatures.

23.01.2022 This happened tonight down steam at Fair Park football oval. The fruit bat was tangled in the nets behind the goal posts that stop balls going into Blind Ck. It got out but flew back in while trying to get past. Distressed it tried to push its head and body through the net before finally getting free. Does anyone know if there’s ways to upgrade nets so bats can spot them easier and avoid them?

23.01.2022 Frog Week starts today! There's lots calling in & around Koolunga so a local contribution would be great if you have time at dusk/dark! These recordings create a great snapshot of frog populations.

07.01.2022 We’re pretty stoked to receive another report of an endangered Powerful Owl calling in Koolunga! Thank you Greg for noticing it and sharing with us. These apex predators are incredibly important in the food chain (maintaining possum numbers!) and ecosystem. Please keep an ear out for a dull ’woohoo’. ... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2fMdTcuoE04

06.01.2022 From 12-2 on Saturday.

06.01.2022 After the council election if there's any candidates that are going to throw out their stakes, can we have some? We can give them a second life!

04.01.2022 A quick game of Spot the Difference will highlight our concern with losing trees and not getting replaced. This is 2006 vs 2018 where SE Water are currently replacing water mains, VicRoads upgraded the intersection and developers provided more dwellings. Just one example: Sugar Gliders need tall trees no more than 50m apart to glide and move around. How do they move around here after what we’ve allowed to happen to the wildlife corridors?... (Game best played on a computer screen)

03.01.2022 Stylidium graminifolium (Grass triggerplant)

03.01.2022 Knox City Council have you seen what's happening to your trees on Boronia Rd? Clearly the infrastructure works only have one priority - just fix the infrastructure. If this tree's roots are compromised and dies, why does 'just one tree' matter? The cumulative effect of constantly losing large trees over time in our area, without replacement. This is the same spot large trees on the median strip were removed and not replaced to make way for the new traffic lights at Tormore Rd. When will they get replaced? This wide nature strip has been recently landscaped, but we can't spot any trees planted! The work we do in reserves doesn't make our streets leafy or help wildlife corridors.

02.01.2022 Celebrating the diverse range of insects in Koolunga. All photos were taken in the reserve and they represent a small portion of the total number of insects out there!

02.01.2022 Crimson Rosellas feeding on seeding grasses and in Koolunga creek.

01.01.2022 Has anyone see this orchid popping up in backyards, front yards or parks? (photos taken in our area before being removed) The South African weed-orchid (Disa bracteata) is a new invasive pest we need to keep out of our area. Please keep an eye out!
