16.01.2022 Many volunteer groups have been doing it hard under the restrictions of the virus. So, a big shout out to the fans of historic gardens. First to the Ballarat Botanic Gardens and their Dahlia display. Dahlia's were once a big feature in Sunshine's own McKay Gardens. Unfortunately they went out of fashion about the same time that local councils decided that high maintenance gardens were not necessary. But all things go in cycles, and once again they are back in fashion, providing a stellar tourist attraction. The second shout out is the to Friends of Buninyong Botanic Gardens. This tiny place has managed to retain the fabric of their gardens through the magnificent trees. There are few better specimens of redwoods in the west.

14.01.2022 Lots of working going on in the Gardens at the moment, new irrigation being installed and thanks to Federal funds plenty of willing workers. Our new plantings are looking great, definitely worth a visit

10.01.2022 The Annual Bird Count is on again. We are hoping to build up a data base of what birds frequent the McKay Gardens. (If you are a local you are permitted to visit our gardens) Here is all the information - thanks to Gardening Australia. We would love to hear from everyone.

01.01.2022 Not the best photo but nice to see our feathered friends joining in our appreciation of the irrigation system.
