24.01.2022 The year is well underway and we are getting ready for our first working bee for 2016. Come and join us 1st Sunday of the Month February 7th 2-4-pm Meet on the up side No 1 platform, then join us for refreshments afterwards.
19.01.2022 Please share this with your Facebook friends and put this in your diary for this Saturday ! Given we have a Federal Election, followed by Council Elections, this is your opportunity to ask our elected representatives what they are doing about Sky Rail !
18.01.2022 We would like to thank our Community for the support we have be given in our in our care of the Mentone Station & Gardens over the 15 years that we have loved i...t. Our hope now is that we will be able to advocate to save it, in its present form as a living operational ticket office and information centre for our passengers. We were delighted that at least the first step in what we think will be a very long process, was to have the rail under road option. But we see this decision as only the beginning of a very long road, with the Devil being in the detail. Our committee along with Council will be meeting with LXRA with serious consideration to be given to our much loved "State Heritage Listed Site" a rarity, and something worthy or retention. Please make your feelings know to LXRA and press for retention of the Station buildings & Gardens.
17.01.2022 Come and join us In our Station Gardens January 18th 2020 11 AM - 2.PM Say Farewell to our Heritage Station & Gardens as we now know them.... Find out what they will become. 'Free Sausage Sizzle and entertainment'
17.01.2022 We may have been quite for a while but we have still been hard at it with extra work being undertaken on the down side. Metrotrains have put in new MYKI readers on the down side platform, so we felt it necessary to to make that space more attractive than it had been in the past. Spending $2.000 on new plantings and replanting two old gardens beds that had become very tired looking. The plan is to progressively replant in the downside car park, in the next planting seasons, the first one being Autumn. It is interesting to note that the sign that Council produced for us to put on the fence stating what we had done has already been stolen!
16.01.2022 Happy New Year to all our "FRIENDS" and please continue to support us in this New Year we will need all the support we can get! This will be the year of consultation !!!!!!! with the Level Crossing Authority! We will try to keep you posted. Well it usually happens before ANZAC DAY and or Australia Day, but this year it was Boxing Day cricket !!!!! and Australian flag was stolen ! Some monkey climbed up the pole and took it, and by the look of it stole the fittings as well *#+#*!! THANKS VERY MUCH !
14.01.2022 Hey Everyone Come down to the St Augustine's Anglican Church, Como Parade West (next to Mentone Grammar). Saturday next week, 9th July at 2pm Tickets on sale now!
10.01.2022 Well another AGM has come and gone we are now into our 13th year, who would have thought it ? It was a well attended meeting and the representatives from the Level Crossing Authority who gave us a presentation were very interesting. It will be very good when the crossings are removed ,disruptive whilst it is happening but worth it in the end. I only hope they get to do the job and another election does not see thing stop! Don't forget the September Working Bee is the 2nd Sunday in Sept because of Father's Day. Working Bee Sept 13th 2 PM.
09.01.2022 Perhaps now Minister Wynn will listen to THE PEOPLE OF MENTONE!
08.01.2022 Our final working bee for the year 2015 is coming up Sunday December 6th. We will be putting up our Christmas decorations and changing the posters in our Heritage Waiting Room. The posters being highlighted are famous people who used to line in Mentone. Come along and have a look at our celebrities from the past, better still come along and give us a hand, as the staff from Grill'd Southland did last month. 2-4 PM meet on the up side Platform (City) we look forward to seeing you there.
08.01.2022 Friends of Mentone Station & Gardens Inc. Dear Friends at this time of the Covid-19 crisis we have had a few comments regarding what must at the moment be referred to as the Mentone Station Gardens work site. We thought it was disappointing that the Level Crossing Removal Project people had to close their Hub, due to social distancing regulations.... However LXRP have given us this website to share with you. This will show you just how beautiful our ‘NEW’ still ‘Heritage Listed’ Mentone Station Gardens will be when completed something to look forward to in our future. https://levelcrossings.vic.gov.au//balcombe-/image-gallery We are advised that the works continue full steam ahead and should be completed as stated. We all look forward to a grand opening when we can all behave more normally. Dorothy Booth CHAIR The Friends of Mentone Station & Gardens Inc
07.01.2022 Boy how time passes! Our next working bee is next Sunday, the 1st Sunday of the Month. The regular handful of willing workers will, no doubt, turn up as usual to look after the Mentone Station & the Gardens, but for how much longer that is the burning question? How many of you want to save our State Heritage Listed Station & Gardens ? What will LXRA do to our Station & Gardens? When will we know ?
05.01.2022 An Exhibition worth seeing.
03.01.2022 Before we get too hung up on blaming the state govt, or the federal govt, or China for our Covid situation let’s review some facts : 1. We had to bring in manda...tory quarantining in hotels, because we couldn’t trust people to stay home after returning from overseas. 2. We then had to bring in security, because we couldn’t trust people to stay in those hotels. 3. We then had to bring in ADF, because we couldn’t trust the security guards. 4. We had to get police to door knock and check up on people, because we couldn't trust those who were meant to be self-isolating to actually stay at home. 5. We had to have police and ADF reinforce the metropolitan Melbourne zone and state borders, because we can’t trust people to follow the restrictions. 6. We are now being asked to use masks, because we cannot trust people to social distance when they are in public. 7. Through it all, our supermarkets have had to introduce shopping restrictions because we couldn’t trust people to not take more than what they needed. So we can get as mad as we want at politicians or health officials for imposing restrictions, or the country where the virus originated, but essentially it’s our own fault that we find ourselves here. Selfishness and lack of empathy seems to be as much of a disease as covid itself. The quicker people start following directions. The quicker this situation will improve. *Copied and pasted* Please feel free to do the same.

01.01.2022 Here we are again, we have not been away we have been working as usual as no doubt you have been able to see. The Gardens are looking very beautiful at the moment due in no small part to the work of the City of Kingston Parks Team, they are just wonderful, and have achieved the look we now have. Our big challenge is to try to stop as much damage as possible when construction begins. Keeping in mind that one cannot make an omelette without breaking eggs, we will try to stop to...o many eggs being broken in the process so to speak! We had our usual working bee last Sunday, remember they are always held the first Sunday of the Month and we would welcome new 'Friends' any time. We are all getting older and 15 years has passed very quickly for us, who will look after this most precious space in coming years??? At the moment you can be assured that LXRA are aware of us and seem to respect our History, lets see. See more
