22.01.2022 Unusual for the season these interesting fungi spotted at the far end of Moonlight Creek track today. More around most tracks for the sharp eyed walker. Still quite damp around atm!

22.01.2022 Friends member Paul helping out at a recent "minibeast discovery" session by Parks Vic. Lots of family fun a a keen bunch of future rangers

22.01.2022 Join the Victorian National Parks Association, Environment Victoria, Victorian Environment Friends Network and other environment groups in Melbourne on Thursday 28 November. It is very clear from the current state of Victoria’s environment that bold action is needed by the Andrews Government to protect the places and wildlife we love our National Parks, forests, rivers, beaches, oceans, native plants and animals. 22.01.2022 Some recent pics of the fabulous displays of Fungi often seen around the tracks at this time of year. Thanks KW. Each season has it's pleasures, while you are getting some healthy exercise...

19.01.2022 More fungi from today in the park. You don't have to go far to see some amazing things, like these minuture "pixie bonnets" (mycena spp) and a "jelly" fungi. Just keep your eye out -even just around the car park! Also heard the lyrebirds are starting to call! It's their time of year...

19.01.2022 Track clearing today with our great pacquali "hand tractor" from Vin Rowe. The extra handy carry rack added (on his own time and with his own material) by Darren Stratman. Obviously if you need solid advice on these brilliant bits of gear he is your man!

18.01.2022 Walk at mt worth today...some of the longer bushwalking tracks require good mud preparation!!

18.01.2022 A couple of samples of the trails we will be offering in this year's NEW runs. 21, 16, and 6 as before but a new look for each of them. Luckily this year we have not had the worst of the weather (so far) so still pretty green, but we are keen to help those further east in trouble, so $5 from every entry will go the the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund. Unfortunately someone has tried to divert runners to another run so here again is the link to register: https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?E=36844

16.01.2022 At this stage the run is still on! today's announcements is: "The decisions they have made is that to put a ban on non-essential gatherings of persons 100 or greater in indoor areas. Outdoor areas it is 500 and indoor areas it is 100. That is effective now, as of today and those arrangements, in terms of the legal enforcement of those measures are being put in place by the states and territories." We are limited to 120 anyway (parking!!) and will manage "social distancing" w...ith your help, so we think that some activity should continue if possible. You need to get your run fix!! If we cancel because of the situation all fees will be refunded - no ifs or buts - and we will try for a date later in the year - so register with confidence. https://www.registernow.com.au/secure/Register.aspx?E=36844

15.01.2022 Craig in one of his many roles, supporting the Friends You have been the Ranger for the Mount Worth State Park, and a number of other parks and reserves in the Latrobe region, for several decades. You have worked beside us as we have set about our tasks and we have really appreciated your gentle and professional guidance. We will miss you very much as you retire on the 3/7/20 and move onto the next stage of your life. We pass onto you our best wishes for a safe and healthy future. 13.01.2022 The fabulous Mt Worth Trail Run returns for 2020 on May 17th, and this year proceeds will again assist the Friends develop and improve the Park, but in addition $5 from every registration will go to Gippsland Emergency Relief Funds (GERF.org.au). Entry fees are still kept low, and entries are limited so don't delay register here now. More details on this https://mtworthfriends.wordpress.com//tail-run-is-back-fo/

12.01.2022 Our President Merrin has been awarded an Australia day medal for her work with the Friends, the West Gippsland seedbank, local landcare and cfa. Congrats! Here with Deputy Mayor Peter Costas and Friends member Margaret Mcdonald who did the nomination.

11.01.2022 We know you bushwalkers and Trail Runners love the mud (!!), but thanks to funding from the Commonwealth Governments Community Environment Grant, and hard work by the friends and contractor Steven Twining, we now have some great walkways and more, to both protect the waterways and keep your feet dry! It will be especially welcomed for this year's run on May 16, we're sure! https://mtworthfriends.wordpress.com//03/23/new-construct/

10.01.2022 Nice collection of second hand tools which will be put to good use keeping tracks clear (when we can!) Thanks Lynn!

08.01.2022 Track clearing today with a good crew of friends...before and after!

06.01.2022 Pupils and teachers from Warragul and District Specialist School on excursion in the park, enjoying the exercise and the nature experience.

06.01.2022 I guess you will not be surprised that we have to cancel the Mt Worth Trail Run for 2020 as a result of the current public health failure around the COVID19 pandemic. We are devastated that we will not be able to welcome you for the event this year, and all registrations have been contacted by email. Full refunds will be processed as soon as possible. We are talking to Register Now about the process. Obviously this has made a significant dent in our cash flow with expenses (i...ncluding refund charges by Register now), insurance etc already committed. We are therefore very grateful to our sponsors such as Drouin Community Bank for sticking with us to allow us to hold the funds for next year. We considered re-scheduling as many events have, but cancellation and refund seems the fairest and most practical option. The end of year calendar is going to be jam packed (if anything is able to be run even then)! We are planning to run again in 2021, so put May 16 in your calendar right now! We feel very strongly that you will need to get out in some way to stay fit and sane, so we note that: 1. (subject to any legal restrictions on you personally) you are at no more risk (nor a risk to anyone else) sitting in your car than sitting on your couch; Many parks (especially those out of town) remain open and able to offer good physical distancing we of course are prejudiced and think of Mt Worth State Park. If this is done responsibly many will have the best chance of seeing this crisis though in good condition though it may be wise to bring your own materials like water and unfortunately even toilet paper (sadly some mindless peanut has raided the toilet paper at Mt Worth and we believe it is happening widely). Hope we can get though this and see you all again in 2021.

05.01.2022 Thanks to Warragul Chiropractic for again supporting the run. Registration link: https://alpinetiming.com.au/rg209

04.01.2022 Due to the extraordinary health situation I guess you will not be surprised that we have to cancel the Mt Worth Trail Run for 2020 as a result of the current public health failure around the COVID19 pandemic. Parks Victoria restrictions on friends activity, and indeed the availability of volunteers due to general movement restrictions, make adequate preparations impossible. This is on top of the obvious difficulties running the day would face, even at current limitation. [ 252 more words ] https://mtworthfriends.wordpress.com//trail-run-2020-canc/

04.01.2022 Once again the friends will be hosting a trail run on Sunday May 16th. After cancelling last year's due to COVID we are especially keen to welcome runners back for another challenging run through some genuine eye-candy bush. The runs will again be )approximately) 21 k, 15 k, and 6 k. The 6 will be especially good this year for those who are maybe wanting to try trail running for the first time, but with enough challenge to keep it interesting!... https://mtworthfriends.wordpress.com//03/22/trail-run-2021/

02.01.2022 We held our annual lyrebird count on the weekend - numbers restricted due to covid rules but we covered 5 monitoring points as last year. Using a "triangulation" method tracking the calls we found 4 confirmed (heard at 3 points) and 2 likely (heard by 2) giving us a total of 6. This is the same as last year, though 2018 confirmed 9 in the same area. This sample is of slightly less than a quarter of the park so we can extrapolate to 24 males in the park as a whole, plus a similar number of females. However it was noted that there is less activity around the picnic area (scratchings and actual sightings) which may be due to the extra visitor numbers this year with many finding places to get into nature... hopefully it is not anything more sinister like foxes, cats or dogs. We will aim to keep an eye on it...

01.01.2022 Exercises in the park today after the deluge, making the moss sparkle, the fungi proliferate in multiple colours, and a rare sight - some euc. Regnans (mountain ash) flowers. Rare because they are usually many metres above us!

01.01.2022 Registrations are happening so don't hesitate. You can register with confidence - if we cancel (due to COVID or anything else!) we refund. No tricky credits or virtual runs or whatever... Go to https://alpinetiming.com.au/rg209
