25.01.2022 Dr Christopher Moore explaining the finer points of the amazing Stuart & Sons grand piano to a very appreciative audience at the Friends of Music recital on April 29th.
17.01.2022 A reminder about our Friends of Music harpsichord and pianoforte recital by Dr Christopher Moore on Sunday, 4th March 2018 at 1:30pm at 40 Maxwell Pl, Abbotsbury NSW 2176. As before, this recital aims to raise money for charitable works to help underprivileged children in Ubay, Bohol, Philippines. Our last recital raised over $1000, so we are hoping to go even better this time. Tickets will be $20 for adults and $10 for students and children.... The recital will include a potpourri of music from the early 16th century to the present day, and in particular will feature: - the 1st Biblical Sonata by Johann Kuhnau (the Battle between David and Goliath), to be played on the harpsichord, and... - Eight Memories in Watercolour, by the Chinese composer Tan Dun, to be played on the piano. We look forward to seeing you all.
15.01.2022 Playing Bach as perhaps he would have heard it ... on a harpsichord by Nikolaus Damm after an instrument by Johann Nicolaus Bach. A rather magical sound enhanced by a really good performance acoustic.
08.01.2022 Friends of Music is proud to present an AMusA pianoforte recital by the very talented 15 year old Thy Anh Nguyen Pham. She will be presenting works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Bartok, Katz-Chernin, Alkan, Scriabin, Khachaturian and Gershwin, amongst others. The recital will take place at 2.00pm on Saturday 13th May, at 40 Maxwell Pl, Abbotsbury, Sydney and she will, of course, be playing a 97-note Stuart & Sons grand piano. Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to come and support Thy in what will undoubtedly be a very high quality recital.
08.01.2022 Of course, the audience were treated to something special afterwards ...
06.01.2022 A reminder of my recital to raise funds for the church at Camanbugan, Ubay, Bohol. All invited
04.01.2022 The perfect companion for the most modern and advanced piano in the world is, of course, a harpsichord. This harpsichord was built by the master craftsman Nikolaus Damm in Manila, Philippines and is based upon an original design by Johann Nicolaus Bach (a cousin of Sebastian Bach and a noted maker of harpsichords and organs as well as being a very gifted musician in his own right). This instrument has two manuals and two sets of strings (each 8' pitch) that can be coupled in various ways to produced different sound qualities. It is ideal for the music of Sebastian Bach (it stands to reason that he would have known of this design) but it also excellent for harpsichord music from all other countries and eras.
02.01.2022 Congratulations to Thy Pham for not only treating us to a marvellous recital but also (one week later) sitting for and passing her AMusA exam. A great effort, and thanks to all the people who supported her by attending.
