25.01.2022 We are here at BUNNINGS ready to go with our sausage sizzle. We’d love you to come & support us for our work in Mrs York’s Garden. Thank you to Bunnings PMQ for allowing us this opportunity & Coles Short St for donating $50 towards our costs.
25.01.2022 A rainy morning at the MYG waterfall.
25.01.2022 We are always busy but today was even busier! The large pile of mulch took a dent as we worked feverishly filling those buckets ( whatever would we do without them!) & bags & running up & down those stairs mulching as much as we could in the Allman Hill area, before dashing over to use the buckets for essential watering in the front Gardens. We had a shorter working time this morning with Leslie Williams MP coming to celebrate with us the commencement of the viewing platfo...rm project, with $95,000 SCCF funding from the NSW Government. The local contractor, for Wagner CFT, Tony McNamara, of Pacific Coast Carpentry, plans to commence work on Monday 30 th November & is hopeful to complete for Christmas. In addition to the Grant funding, throughout the project we will acknowledge the contributions of Forestry Corp NSW & Boral industries, the Maritime Museum Boatbuilders & PMHC. See more
24.01.2022 While we did our watering, weeding & whipper snipping Peter Berecry & his Port TreeFella team did the pruning work in the waterfall area, on behalf of PMHC. What a difference it has made! Also, it was exciting to have Tony McNamara, contractor for construction of the viewing platform, on site with a few of his workers to set up a few levels & start to get organised for an end of the month commencement.
24.01.2022 It’s been a huge day, with Archaeological pit testing, Christmas photos by Gaz, John’s birthday & the usual watering, weeding & maintenance jobs. Whew! And a stunner of a day, with lots of visitors.
24.01.2022 For those who didn’t see this when first posted back in 2015.
22.01.2022 A perfect morning for gardening with the cloud cover & prospect of rain this afternoon. Marg & Jenny M planted new swamp lilies along Stewart St, Cath & Anne lightly trimmed the westringia around the Macquarie shelter, Mike M & Don watered the new plants, Ken chipped away at the flat weeds, Judith worked at her favourite rocky top, Tricia did a lot of washing down tables & seats, Pete whipper snipped, Mike B painted away the graffiti & toiled at the Town Beach entrance, whilst Glad & Amanda were kept busy at the Trade Table. Loved catching up with Mel & Andy & their friends Carol & Brian, followed by a Covid induction by Hayley,Reno & Jess from PMHC.
18.01.2022 Another busy day watering, weeding & whipper snipping. Thanks Rod, Di, Cath, Glad, Marg, Amanda, Tricia, Pete, Mike M, Mike B, John T, Ken, Judith, Anne, Jenny & Don. A special treat to have our little koala back enjoying the Garden. It’s not long till Christmas , , so we’ve kicked off our raffle today. Oops we’ve missed Chris D’s birthday on the 12th. We’ll catch him when we see him next. Hope it was a good one Christopher Dwyer.

17.01.2022 Some beautiful Waratahs of 3 different types this morning & some gorgeous children’s quilt covers made by Fran Frances Smith. Jenny has also been busy again getting all those butters done. Come & check out all our goodies.
16.01.2022 A very special day in our history with the official reopening of Mrs York’s Waterfall, originally opened by Mayor Mac Adams on 6 th December 1970. What a checkered history the area has endured & what a special project to bring this area back to life. Bertha particularly wanted an area where people could come for some time out, to enjoy the calming effect of the trickle of running water. Her granddaughter Glenys took a major role in bringing this vision back to the Garden. Today was about recognising the contributions & efforts of all of those in the Community who helped bring this to fruition, as detailed in a previous post. We regret that due to Covid restrictions we could not open it to the public.
15.01.2022 Amanda & Glad had a lovely, successful day selling over $200 worth of Christmas Raffle tickets at Port Central today. Well done ladies. They will be selling them at the Garden ( Cnr Grant & Stewart St) tomorrow 8.30 -11 am, along with all the other Trade Table goodies.
15.01.2022 Does anyone have any passionfruit so that Jenny can make more of her very popular butter?

14.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon we held our 2019-20 AGM at the Hastings District Flying Club, with strict Covid requirements in place. This unfortunately meant we could not invite other supporters & friends to enjoy a post AGM thank you dinner, as we have in the past. Despite the tribulations of fires, drought & Covid we were able to acknowledge a wonderfully successful year with the Keep Australia Beautiful Habitat & Wildlife Award, completion & opening of the Macquarie shelter, Di’s A...ustralia Day Environmental Citizen Award, Shirley’s ( Midson-York) 100 th birthday, celebration of 5 Years of working at MYG, that amazing SCCF State Government Grant for the viewing platform project, and of course completing our very special project in restoring the running waterfall to the Garden. The Garden is flourishing, our Membership is up & our finances are sound. We are thankful to Marg for her diligence in record keeping & Mark D for again preparing our financial statements to professional standards. Certainly a year of achievements to be proud of as outlined in Di’s Presidents Report & celebrated with light refreshments following the meeting. Thank you to those Committee members elected for 2020-21, President-Di Davison, Vice President- Glenys Pearson, Secretary- Cath Corthals, Treasurer- Marg Thomas, Sub- Committee Members Peter Morris, Mike Morgan & Amanda Cavanagh. 14.01.2022 It did turn out to be almost as hot as yesterday! The plants appreciated the watering today & we headed to the shady areas for weeding. Such a lot done as usual. We love having visitors. Nice to have Chris Gribble come to show her sister Pam through the Garden & it was especially great that Robyne & Jill were able to come for a chat today. We hope they will both be fit & able to return to the Garden soon.

12.01.2022 The little recent rain gave us some reprieve from watering today & with more promised, we planted some new pretties along the Stewart St bank. Still a lot of weeding & whipper snipping done before having a General Meeting during morning tea. A key for discussion was the design details for the viewing platform, received yesterday for review. Our Christmas raffle prizes are mounting nicely. Tickets available each Wednesday @ $2 ea or 3 for $5. Thank you to all for the donations & especially to Steve & Hazel who popped in today with a beautiful hamper box of goodies. Great to have a number of visitors this morning, including Di Morgan, Evelyne, Jill & Steve & Hazel.
12.01.2022 Another great working bee today with Marg & Tricia busy at the Trade Table, lots of maintenance painting jobs ticked off, & watering & weeding. Spring is certainly in the air with a lot of visitors enjoying the Garden & so many gorgeous native flowers popping up their heads. Thanks Cath for the pics of these colourful delights.
12.01.2022 A glorious spring day & again a lot achieved with maintenance, watering, weeding & mulching. The visitors to the Garden are coming through in droves, many making the effort to speak to us & show their appreciation. A super morning tea to celebrate Marg’s birthday ( what a cake!) & everyone just wanted to sit ( with distance) & chat. That’s what this beautiful weather & stunning location is all about! Thanks to Matt Bell for dropping in with supplies & Steve Thomas offering to support our work in the Garden. A thank you too to Chris Chris Gribble & Kym Gribble who popped a donation of $100 into our account, just to show they appreciate our efforts.
10.01.2022 The sanding & painting continued at a frantic pace, there was pruning & whipper snipping, watering & mulching ( thanks again Peter Berecry), lots of visitors & a bumper Trade Table day. The 2020 NSW Volunteer Recognition Certificates received a few days ago were a small reward for our wonderful volunteers & recognition of Friends of Mrs York’s Garden volunteers as an awesome Volunteer Team. Another fabulous day at MYG.

07.01.2022 A nice little cloud cover for the working bee today. Everyone just got stuck in to the watering & weeding whilst the visitors came through in droves. Wow it’s a popular place, especially with the holidays on. We loved celebrating Bev’s birthday with her today. What fun she is!
05.01.2022 Another look at progress 5 years ago. We did a fair bit of spreading mulch & watering again today.

03.01.2022 A fabulously busy morning getting lomandra transplanted & mulched, the Together as One Sculpture painted & our entry sign logo given a freshen up. Lots of weeding & general maintenance too. After a lovely birthday morning tea with distance for Anne & Graeme, Glenys & Di had a very productive meeting with key personnel from Wagners, the local contractor, PMHC representatives, & the Maritime Museum builders regarding the viewing platform project, generously funded through a SCCF State Government Grant. We hope to have the design details underway very soon.
03.01.2022 Another perfect day at MYG. Cath, Mike M, Mike B & Di were kept busy completing the painting of the Allman Hill seats & picnic tables, Jenny, Judith, Ken & Tricia weeded & tidied up whilst Pete & Rod whippered snippered. Amanda & Glad were kept very busy on the Trade Table, with bumper takings. Those stunning Waratahs sure do create a buying frenzy. There should be more available next week. Thank you to Carol Smallman for sussing out some passionfruit in Kempsey for us, to Jenny Jennifer Williams for going up to get them & making up the passionfruit butters, & to those who came & bought them all!
02.01.2022 A warm welcome to our two new volunteers Don and Jen! How lovely to have two extra pair of enthusiastic hands working in the garden today.....we look forward to getting to know you both and are very happy to have you both as new 'friends' in the garden . A taste of summer this morning with a northerly breeze and warm weather necessitating the continued watering of newly planted flora. Mike M, John T and Don all concentrated on watering. Jen W, Jen, Judith, Anne, Cath and Mar...g were weeding.....the rocky top area is looking marvellous thanks to Judith and Anne (and Robynne). Glenys tracked down ochna and kaffir plum showing their unwelcome presence. Pete got stuck into the whipper snipping and Amanda and Marg had our trade table up and running early to catch the passing trade......a very productive morning.....with a well earned cuppa to conclude our morning..... Our Christmas hamper raffle will be ready soon.......tickets will be on sale in the next week or so.....
02.01.2022 These beauties available at the Trade Table at MYG from 8.15 -11 am today. Also a new range of gorgeous cardigans ( 18 months- 3 yrs) from Bev.
01.01.2022 We postponed the painting & watering today, expecting rain this afternoon. Let’s hope it comes Nevertheless lots of work done with whipper snipping, removal of noxious weeds ochna & tobacco bush, weeding in the front garden, & Judith & Anne on the rocky top. There was great excitement with Glenys’s stunning Waratahs again available at the Trade Table. Thank you to Lance for cutting & delivering them to us whilst Glenys is enjoying a sailing adventure. Julie Constable from Westport Rotary called in this morning to gather some ideas for helping Westport Primary School replant out 5 large garden beds. She was delighted to see what we have at MYG. Steve Thomas returned today with his lovely wife Hazel to further discuss ways they can help us. They very much appreciate what we are doing. Now please let it rain!
01.01.2022 When Bertha created her garden, back in 1963, she very much wanted it as a space for people to come to if they felt troubled or needed some time out. Her request for a running waterfall was to add the tranquility that a trickle of water brings. The restoration of the Garden & particularly the newly restored waterfall has brought that vision back to this beautiful headland space, so accessible for the Community to enjoy, especially in these difficult Covid times. Its also such a delight for our volunteers to be able to enjoy working in the Garden for exercise, friendship and stress release. If you'd like to become a volunteer at MYG reply here, send a message, email [email protected] or call 0439853835.
