24.01.2022 Self-Guided Tours of Nail Can Hill’s Wildflowers will be on again this year at the Range Rd access throughout October - a great way to improve your plant ID. AlburyCity will be updating the plant labels as the different flowers come & go.

23.01.2022 I'm really excited to be moving this notice of motion at tomorrow night's council meeting. Mountain biking is an increasingly popular sport in Albury-Wodonga, a...nd its growth really took off during COVID restrictions. On one hand, this is fantastic! Families and young people are getting outdoors, getting active and enjoying our wonderful natural spaces. Unfortunately, our facilities haven't kept pace with this growth which has led to people building their own trails which are environmentally destructive or even unsafe. Staff in various areas of council are aware of this and some action has been taken, for example the recent audit of trail conditions on Nail Can Hill and the inclusion of a pump track in our upcoming regional skate park. What we really need is a coordinated approach between different departments so that we can meet community expectations both in terms of MTB facilities and protection of our most sensitive environmental assets. Where do you think extra trails should be built? Have you noticed any unauthorised or unsafe trails? If you'd like to watch the debate tomorrow you'll find the live-stream here from 6pm: https://www.alburycity.nsw.gov.au//about-counc/live-stream

21.01.2022 This 1920s picture of Dean Street looking up at Monument Hill always makes me go "wow, thank goodness they let the trees grow back". Do you have any old photos of Nail Can Hill or the Albury ranges tucked away in family albums?

21.01.2022 Great work Parklands Albury Wodonga we are really looking forward to working with you on the next stage of this project.

18.01.2022 Some more wildflower pics from Susan Harman, who agrees the flowers have been wonderful all spring.

17.01.2022 A beautiful Autumn orchid currently in flower in the Nail Can Hill region of Albury Wodonga in April. Eriochillus cucullatus, commonly called "Parsons bands". ... We like to call her "Leading lady". At first she's elusive but in no time at all she takes center stage when you take a second look along our local bushland tracks. See more

16.01.2022 What is out this last week?

15.01.2022 Freesias - looking beautiful along Pemberton Street BUT they are a major environmental weed. Threat / Problem - Invades disturbed areas, displacing native vegetation, particularly native orchids. Spread - Reproduces primarily from seed dispersed by water, soil movement, birds, garden waste dumping. Produces numerous corms along the stem which can form new plants.

15.01.2022 I have never seen so many wildflowers on Nail Can Hill. Yellow bulbine-lilies aplenty just near the Hodge St entrance, where I also saw lots of guinea flowers and native geraniums. And up on Range Road the chocolate lilies and pale sundews are en masse

15.01.2022 Where are you walking today? Unemployment track is a riot of colour, It's hard to keep the heart rate up when there are soooo many photos to take.

14.01.2022 A great initiative from Albury Conservation Company https://www.alburyconservationco.org.au/albury-wodonga-nat/

14.01.2022 What have you seen on the Hill this week?

13.01.2022 More than wildflowers are abundant on the hill - a few of our other friends.

12.01.2022 ..and the stunning wildflower show continues to develop. From my walk on the hill this morning:

12.01.2022 More beautiful wildflowers to enjoy: leopard orchid (I call it donkey's ears), early nancy and small leaf parrot pea - all spotted near the water tower near Range Road entrance

10.01.2022 Flicking through the "Albury Ranges Threatened Species Conservation Strategy" by Davidson, Datson & McLennan (as you do) - there is a list of birds, mammals and reptiles - might start using it as a bingo sheet.

09.01.2022 And many more wildflowers (Grevillea alpina, guinea flowers, slender rice flowers). Enjoy!

08.01.2022 Common Fringe Lilies are out this morning!

06.01.2022 Florence Trail - West Albury. Sticky everlasting galore, a quiet steady uphill (aren't they all) but so much to look at that you hardly notice. Track parallel to Ridge track to west can make it a loop.

04.01.2022 Cool windy mornings aren't always the best time for insect spotting but Karen Retra helped us find heaps. Lots of handy hints, tips and info to get us even more interested in pollinators and insects. Happy autumn Wild Pollinator count #wildpollinatorcount #nailcanhill

04.01.2022 Our environment team is thrilled by a sighting of two critically-endangered regent honeyeaters in Albury. Best of all, the birds are a female and male, raising hopes they might be mating, giving a glimmer of hope for the struggling species. http://ow.ly/6QxQ30r36qa

03.01.2022 Heard about iNaturalist but not sure what it's all about and how to begin? This Thursday evening, from the comfort of your own home, you can learn all about it.... Please note that in the not-too-distant future, Wodonga Urban Landcare Network's Karen Retra will also host an introduction to iNaturalist. Spoilt for choice! See more
