25.01.2022 Some messages for our families as we begin Term 3

25.01.2022 We have had a big Friday today at St Raphael's School. A Winter Woollies day to help us to think about those experiencing hardship, a visit from our Parish Priest Fr. Denis to speak with our Reception and Year 1 class about life in the time of Jesus and the final visit from our Little Raph's before they start school next term!

23.01.2022 Third of four. Our Year 1/2 class was asked how they would encourage other students to care for our school environment using multimedia text and print. This is part of their Religious Education learning - exploring the understanding that all people have a responsibility to care for creation. The learners have come to the understanding that if we take action at school, then we can help to protect the Earth, our common home.... Please enjoy.

23.01.2022 As part of Catholic Education Week we invite all our Mothers and special VIP’s to attend our Liturgy this Friday May 7 from 9am in the Hall. This special event will be followed by a scrumptious morning tea. We hope to see you there. #RaisingHeartsAndMinds

23.01.2022 When posed with the question ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ some of our youngest learners shared their dreams and aspirations. Do you remember how you answered this question when you were 5 or 6 years old?

22.01.2022 Congratulations to all our learners on their mammoth effort this morning across all events. It was a morning filled with sport, joy and enthusiasm. All our learners participated to their best of their abilities and deserve a big rest tonight! We won’t give away who won we’ll leave that for you to find out tonight!

21.01.2022 The show must go on! Congratulations to our wonderful St Raphael's School Choir who performed yesterday at Sacred Heart Senior School as a part of the Catholic Schools Music Festival. The entire performance will be recorded across several days to produce a video of the wonderful support acts as well as the full choral group performance. Our singers, led by Amanda Rugari, have worked very hard across this year to learn the songs and choreography in sometimes rather difficult circumstances due to COVID restrictions. We look forward to seeing the fruits of their labour soon!

21.01.2022 Following on from our year 3 and 4 Indigenous art and symbols incursion as part of our school’s @naidocweek celebrations @naidoc_sa we are pleased to publish our learner's completed artworks. Our artists were asked to tell their own story with some choosing family groups, telling stories of gathering food at a river or hunting for animals. Each artwork tells a different story.... Thank you again to Tony Straccia of Indigenu Art Gallery and Coral Hayes Pananka our guest Indigenous artist. These works will be coming home for Christmas and are sure to liven up your walls and put a happy smile on your face. Congratulations to all our artists.

16.01.2022 This week is National Child Protection Week with the theme 'Putting children first'. Today Pauline from our Parish came in to share showbags with the children in our Reception/Year 1 class to acknowledge and celebrate child Protection Week. The showbags contained information for families as well as a prayer, a jigsaw puzzle and some seeds to plant at home. Our Parish, along with St Raphael's School values the safety and protection of our children at all times. In keeping with this year's theme of Child Protection Week, we do put our children first.

15.01.2022 Our purpose-build sensory suite has been constructed under the guidance of Dino Mennillo, OT and Clinical Director of Occupation Therapy for Children. Our support staff have received specialised training from Dino to provide a targeted sensory program, supporting learners with sensory needs to self-regulate in order that they can access their learning. This program is just one of the ways that St Raphael’s School provides personalised learning to enable every learner to thrive.

15.01.2022 Even though Isabelle from Year 1 is holding the one and only lemon harvested from our lemon tree this year, we know Emma our Canteen Manager will put it to good use in one of her delicious recipes.

14.01.2022 Sports Day high hurdles.

13.01.2022 Friendly reminder St Raphael’s Sports Day will be held on Thursday 19 November from 9:15am 1:00pm at the school. To get ourselves into the spirit of this whole school event, we are asking if every family in the school can donate one or more items in their child’s team colour. All items will be collected and placed into themed Sports Day colour gift baskets, which will be raffled on the day. A few basic suggestions could be a red drink bottle, a blue cap, a yellow beach ba...ll or some green tennis balls. Be creative, with items that will excite and surprise! If donating food items, non-perishable is definitely the way to go. We would appreciate if all items can be brought to the school by Thursday 12 November.

13.01.2022 The Year 4 class have prepared this video to promote Winter Woolies Day on Friday 26 June. We encourage you to be generous in helping people experiencing homelessness in our community.

11.01.2022 A message from the Director of Catholic Education to all in our community.

10.01.2022 On Tuesday 1 September, St Raphael's School participated in the annual Catholic Schools Touch Football Carnival. Our school was represented by 52 students from Year 3 to Year 6, who elected to play. Students were grouped into 5 teams that played across the day in 5 - 6 mini matches of 20 minutes duration. It was a day of intense physical activity, as the game revolves around the skills of throwing and catching the ball whilst running as a team towards the try line to attempt to score. Teamwork is an important component of playing any sport and it was encouraging to observe our students communicating and strategising together, whilst supporting each other to maximise their chances of being successful in scoring a goal. Thank you to Jeanette Archer and all of our dedicated staff and parent volunteers for making this day possible.

09.01.2022 We are excited to welcome new staff members to the St Raphael’s School community for 2021. Elizabeth, Sarah, Deborah and Kelly bring a wealth of energy, expertise and experience and we know this will have great benefit for every one of our learners. Learning and Belonging at St Raphael’s School will be enhanced by small class sizes, new, specialised approaches to Literacy and Numeracy and the launch of our Learner Dispositions. Our learning environment will be further enhanced through a building refurbishment project during the year. Much to look forward to in 2021!

09.01.2022 HARU NO HI Today September 24 our students and staff celebrated the Japanese Spring Festival to welcome in the Spring season (Haru No Kisetsu). In readiness for the Spring Festival, students have been creating the Hachi Maki (Japanese headbands) and blossom trees during their Japanese Lessons. Alice and Pallas welcomed the whole school and introduced the event in Japanese language. Year 6 boys performed the loud and energising Taiko Drumming followed by the serene and majesti...c Umbrella Dance by our Year 6 girls. The whole school participated in the Japanese folk dancing, even the teachers [we promise to get video next time!] This was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the rich and engaging learning that happens at St Raphael's School through our specialised Japanese program. Kon'nichiwa, arigat (good day and thank you)

09.01.2022 Second of four.

08.01.2022 Sports Day little hurdles.

07.01.2022 What a wonderful night was had by our students and staff at St Raphael's School disco on Friday night. Children danced the night away, supported by our Year 6 leaders who taught some groovy dance moves, provided refreshments and made sure a great time was had by all.

07.01.2022 PE is the ever popular program here at St Raphael's School and to keep our students fit, interested and learning new movement skills we ran a 3 week intensive block of Gymnastics this term across Weeks 8, 9 and 10. This specialised block of PE was run as a collaboration with the Tri-Skills organisation @TriSkills All students had an opportunity to use specialised gymnastics equipment such as high/low bars, parallel bars, mini trampolines, vaults, balance beam and wedges.... It was great to see all students enthusiastically embracing the challenges of moving their bodies through space in various ways jumping, springing, rolling, pushing up, hanging down, spinning/rotating, balancing and landing. Maybe ask your children to give you a demonstration at home and see them turn into acrobats before your very eyes.

07.01.2022 To celebrate Catholic Education week and the bicentenary of Catholic Education in Australia, we asked some of our learners what they like about being at St Raphael’s School. Happy Catholic Education Week! 06.01.2022 Year 5 students at St Raphael's School have developed story ideas using screen writing and storyboard skills to shape a story principle. Students are currently enjoying working collaboratively, using a video camera and tripod to capture their images. They will later edit this footage into a film which will be shared with the school community. Media Arts is just one of the areas of the Arts curriculum where our learners engage in hand-on, purposeful learning while developing their artistic, collaborative and expressive skills.

06.01.2022 Our Year 5 learners attended St Raphael's Church for Mass this morning. Afterwards Fr Dennis gave them a tour of the Church as a part of their Religious Education learning program. Our Year 4 learners spent some time today building and coding their Lego Mars Rovers then collaborating to combine their vehicles to pull a load. Such excitement as they tried them out and experienced success!

06.01.2022 Curious creatures and wild minds were well and truly on show at St Raphael's School Book Week parade this morning! Students have been exploring the short-listed books for this year as well as creating their own curious and wild costumes. They also shared some learning activities with their buddies this afternoon. What a wondrous day of creativity and fun.

05.01.2022 Our Assistant Principal and Director of Learning, Marianne Farrugia, has some messages about enhancements to learning at St Raphael’s School next year. One of those enhancements is the implementation of a new evidence-based approach to literacy initially for our Reception to Year 3 learners. Our teachers will be accessing specialised training in this synthetic phonics, explicit teaching approach. Please save the date of Wednesday February 3 if you are a parent/caregiver of a child in Reception to Year 3 as we will be providing an important information session prior to the Meet the Teacher sessions later in the evening.

05.01.2022 We wish all in the St Raphael’s School community and beyond a wonderful Christmas season. Please see below for our end-of-year message from our Principal, Mrs Mia Harms.

03.01.2022 Fourth of four.

02.01.2022 Sports Day water fun.

02.01.2022 Students, staff and families came together this morning for our Welcome Liturgy. It was lovely to officially welcome our new Reception students joining Miss Rowson's class and we listened as students shared beautiful thank you notes from staff and residents of Estia Aged Care Service. R/1 R wrote letters to these residents last term. We also welcomed brand new baby George into our St Raphael's School community with a lovely prayer of blessing. Our Year 6 students shared some stories of when they started school and they lead us in a groovy dance to get us ready for the upcoming school disco in Week 3!

01.01.2022 Sports Day teamwork.

01.01.2022 At St Raphael’s School our students and teachers are collaborating to identify key learning ‘powers’ which we will explicitly teach, learn, use and embed into our language and culture. We would love for our families to be involved. Please join the conversation at our Community Consultation Meeting on Tuesday 11 August at 6:45 - 7:45pm. For those bringing their children, a creche will be provided. RSVP to [email protected] ASAP or by Friday 7 August if you would like to attend and please indicate if you need to utilise the creche. We look forward to working with you in this exciting process!
