23.01.2022 Today - the 5th of May - is INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE MIDWIFE! This year it is also the international YEAR of the midwife! AND the 25th Anniversary of the opening of the Birth Centre at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital! While we can't be physically together to celebrate at this time, we would love you to send some love to our birth centre midwives, past and present.... Post to our page, write a message in the comments or send us a message that we can forward on. Let’s make our midwives feel the love, from a distance. And we will organise a get together to celebrate in person once social distancing restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so!!! Now, more than ever, is the time to celebrate our Midwives - these Frontline workers continuing the work through this pandemic to ensure that women have a midwifery led model of care when they birth! *Image from last year's International Day of the Midwife celebrations

19.01.2022 The Qld state election is coming up on 31OCT20. Currently the scorecard is; Greens have supported all asks!... IMOP have supported all asks! Liberal have supported 2 of 8 rural birth reopens. Update: possible continuity targets and Mossman reopen. Labour have not responded. NOW is the time to call, email, engage on socials and see your state MP about our rubbish maternity services. Google your suburb plus ‘state MP’ to find electorate details. You could send this infographic/brief and tell your personal story of poor fragmented care or amazing continuity of midwifery carer, but be sure to mention only 19% of Queenslanders can access evidence based care. http://www.maternitychoices.org.au//mca_et_al_2020_qld_mat Tag a friend here and prompt them to follow up with their MP or go to a pop up office together. If you need any support or advice, pls PM us.

03.01.2022 Tomorrow marks 25 years since the Birth Centre opened Karen Marshall one of the founding midwives has this message and call to action to share: I want to say thank you to all the midwives and families who have contributed to this longevity and who enabled the Birth Centre to provide family centred continuity of midwifery care for these 25 years. When we began the Birth Centre 25 years ago Marg and I hoped and dreamed for a long and successful service in which women could f...eel safe and could have family centred care. As I prepare to retire in about 3 weeks I am so grateful to work alongside such a wonderful, professional cohort of midwives and to have met many beautiful families. Because of COVID-19 restrictions we can’t have a big face to face celebration this year but it would be great if as many people as possible (midwives, women and families) could bombard the RBWH with positive stories about their experiences at the Birth Centre over the years (recent stories and stories from throughout the years). The emails don’t have to be long - let’s see if we can overwhelm over the next couple of days. Subject: Birth Centre 25 years Email: [email protected] Much love, Karen Marshall
