21.01.2022 Today is WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY. A time for nature. Donna Davis's work, 'Beyond The Seed', was physically constructed from copper wire, to reference energy tran...sfer, and then knitted into tubular filaments to capture the functional essence of roots. This physical form was then digitally crocheted together to create a dynamic interpretation of the intricate, functional and aesthetic nature of these unseen living systems. According to Donna, "the living lifeline systems beneath our feet act like super highways to support life above ground. These complex networks are often shared with other species for mutual benefit, with plants and fungi often building symbiotic relationships through these pathways to ensure optimum health for both species. With many factors affecting the potential of one tiny seed, this work reveals the dynamic and powerful essence of natures grand design in its quest to grow and sustain life." The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature. Yet, these are exceptional times in which nature is sending us a message: To care for ourselves we must care for nature. Its time to wake up. To take notice. To raise our voices. Its time to build back better for People and Planet. #FORNATURE #WORLDENVIRONMENTDAL UN Environment Programme To learn more about Donna Davis and her major prize winning work in the inaugural Sunshine Coast Environmental Art Prize, 2015 go to: https://bit.ly/DonnaDavis Donna Davis 'Beyond The Seed' 2015 (Detail) #SunshineCoastArtCollextion #CaloundraRegionalGallery

Make sure to come by and experience our current exhibition, complete with interviews by past Directors, their favourite works from the Sunshine Coast Art Collection and every work that has won the Sunshine Coast Art Prize, to date. 15.01.2022 WINNER 2008 - Its totally different to anything I have done before. Its a bit of fun professed Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2008 winner, Scott Redford, of his w...inning work Reinhardts Silver Instant Painting. The renowned Gold Coast-based artist was inspired by the main character of a feature film he had begun to write - 22-year-old surfer Reinhardt Damm - I really got into the mind of his character, and it is so much easier to create when you are someone else, you are more free. Writer, curator, broadcaster and guest judge in 2008, Julie Ewington, affirmed The Sunshine Coast Art Prize is a goodie because they have all sorts of different kinds of works and they are very open-minded. On exhibition until 4 October. Reinhardts Silver Instant Painting (2008), Scott Redford, Acrylic, spray-can enamel and stickers on canvas, 104 x 104cm. Winner, Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2008, acquired through the support of Sajen Legal.
