13.01.2022 Changes mooted at Murwillumbah Hospital The head of the local area health district says fewer people are using the Murwillumbah Hospital Emergency Department. ...Wayne Jones, the chief executive says that's called for a redistribution of staff. He said the shift in the number of people using the Murwillumbah Hospital has coincided with a rise in the number of people going to Byron and Ballina Hospital. "We are considering moving nursing hours out of the ED at Murwillumbah," Mr Jones said. The changes might involve moving those hours to Byron and Ballina. Angie Gittus, from the Murwillumbah branch of the Nurses Union, said staff are concerned by the proposal. Mr Jones said no decision had been made and the health department is in talks with the union. "We will do some more review of the data and some of the issues they (the union) has raised and the next meeting is in two weeks time," Mr Jones said.

06.01.2022 Fabulous news today from the NSW Government - an additional $90 M for the new Tweed Valley Hospital development - and it is one of 24 projects being fast tracked across the State. This funding is in addition to the originally announced budget amount of $582M and is for increased services. For some time now the Medical Council have been advocating for additional services/equipment that they saw as crucial to adequately service the Tweed/Byron population. Today’s announcement is because of their advocacy and commitment to improved health services in the region.

04.01.2022 Grateful to our frontline health staff at this time, and to all frontline services across various industries.
