25.01.2022 As you would hate to forget to change your clocks tonight and show up early for something tomorrow make sure to get that new battery out and change your smoke alarm battery. Remember only WORKING Smoke Alarms Save Lives.

23.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of Men’s Health Week, a week that focuses on the health impacts of men’s environments. Our people are our most important asset and the...ir mental and physical wellbeing is crucial to ensuring we are prepared for anything. This year Men’s Health Week highlights the importance of taking the time to have regular check-ups with a general practitioner and regular check-ins with your loved ones. Some of the work Fire and Rescue NSW is doing to support our people in this area includes the recruitment of Wellbeing Officers to support the roll out of mental health programs and enhancing our personal protective equipment to reduce our firefighters exposure to carcinogens. Tips from www.menshealthweek.org.au to manage your health: Be active in getting medical help if you don't feel well, have a problem that won't go away or notice unusual symptoms. It's OK to seek help - don't try to do everything on your own or bury problems. Talk to your partner, friends and workmates. Push hard to get the help you need to manage your life, work, family and financial needs. Partners - be proactive in helping your men and boys get the help they and you need. Use available hotlines, speak with professionals to get the best course of action and be persistent. Don't leave it too late to seek help. 23.01.2022 We were called to assist Fire and Rescue NSW Station 312 Gulgong with this reported house fire earlier tonight. This is a timely reminder, as the colder nights set in, that we should all take the time to check all heaters whether they be wood, gas or electric to make sure they are working correctly and that smoke alarms are fitted and working correctly.

23.01.2022 Our firefighters from across Region West have banded together to raise money to support the Jordan family by selling beanies in the lead up to the colder months.... Bridie is the daughter of Damien Jordan, Deputy Captain at 300 Gilgandra station. Bridie suffers from Mainzer Saldino Syndrome, a rare genetic syndrome only diagnosed in around 20 others internationally. It effects bone growth and organs in the body. As a result of this, Bridie's kidneys are failing, and she's currently undergoing extensive treatment in Sydney, hundreds of kilometres from home. This fundraiser has been set up by firefighters in Region West Area Command, and is designed to help support the family, who have been forced to live away from home during Bridie's treatment. In 2018, Damien Jordan was the second highest individual fundraiser in the Firies Climb for Motor Neurone Disease. It's time for us to support Damien and his family during their time of need. To purchase your beanie, simply visit our website at https://beaniesforbridie.com.au/

21.01.2022 Yesterday marked a major milestone for one of our most senior firefighters with Robert Joseph marking 40 years of service to Fire and Rescue NSW and the Mid-Western Regional Council community. Robert or Joe as he is commonly known, along with his family, have made an enormous commitment to the people of Mudgee giving up many a night of sleep, missing the family dinner and many other personal/family commitments over this time. Joe, during these 40 years of service has seen man...y changes in the fire brigade and has also undertaken a number of key responsibilities of which included a period of where Joe and his family spent living at the fire station. One of the key responsibilities included being the initial call taker of fire calls and setting off the station siren to alert the other firefighters of the need to respond, which he still enjoys doing on our special occasions. Joe has also been the face of Mudgee Fire and Rescue at our community engagement activities over the majority of these years. From everyone at Mudgee 387 station we would like to congratulate and thank Robert for his amazing contribution to our station and look forward to many more in the years to come.

21.01.2022 In what has been a horrid fire season these guys have been the saviour from the skies. Unfortunately yesterday they lost their lives doing what they have done for many weeks now in Australia and we shall be forever grateful. Our thoughts and thanks are with the whole Coulson Aviation - Next Gen Firefighting team and their families.

19.01.2022 From all of us at Mudgee 387 station we are wishing all Mothers a very special day and thank you for everything you do and have done for us.

18.01.2022 "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."... Lest we forget.

17.01.2022 In winter, the average number of home fires a week in NSW is 102 (based on a five year average). Now is the time to look at how to keep safe inside the home. Heaters keep all objects off heaters and ensure heaters are at a safe distance from objects in a room. Never use a solid fuel heater or BBQ inside your home the results can be deadly. Don’t leave fire safety to chance Act on the Get Ready for Winter Fire Safety Checklist.

16.01.2022 We are wishing everyone a safe and Happy Easter. We hope that you are enjoying your time with your families in what has been a very different Easter period. Remember to stay safe during this time and if you need us we will still be there for you.

16.01.2022 You guessed it, it’s that time of the year when you get that extra hour to change your smoke alarm battery. When you change your smoke alarm battery remember to check it as it’s as simple as pushing the button. Oh and while you’re at it, change your clocks back an hour too.

14.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK | This week we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, both at Fire and Rescue NSW and in our community. #MoreThanFire #Community #NAIDOC2020

14.01.2022 Our thoughts go out to the crew at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 364 Lithgow West on their tragic loss. We send our condolences to his family and friends in this terrible time.

13.01.2022 **A message from Commissioner Paul Baxter** It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Fire and Rescue NSW’s first commissioner, Commissioner Ian Mac...Dougall, AFSM, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82. Ian joined Fire and Rescue NSW in 1994 after a long career with the Royal Australian Navy. Ian rose through the ranks of the Navy achieving rank of Vice Admiral before stepping into the Commissioner’s role. He spent almost 10 years with FRNSW and was able to modernise the department by upgrading our communications and technology to ensure we were equipped for the future. During his time at FRNSW, Ian was appointed President of the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council. Ian will be dearly missed by everyone at FRNSW and we extend our condolences to all his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

11.01.2022 Yesterday two of our specialist Hazmat operators took Hazmat Tanker 387 across to assist with an incident at Manildra flour mill. The nature of the incident involved many resources from Fire and Rescue NSW Regional West 2 including our Hazmat Tanker and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 312 Gulgong rehab van. These specialist appliances ensure that our firefighters have the best resources available to them to assist in rendering incidents safe whilst ensuring firefighter well being. After nearly 48 hours of firefighting operations the incident was handed back to the owners last night.

11.01.2022 Just after 7pm tonight both pumper 387 and hazmat tanker 387 responded to reports of an electrical pillar alight. Upon arrival we found an electrical pillar box that had been damaged by fire by had self extinguished. Our firefighters setup an exclusion zone awaiting the arrival of local Essential Energy crews to complete repairs. With the different weather conditions we are experiencing at the moment it is very important to remember the risks associated with electricity. Whether it’s a tree on powerlines or arcing wires it’s important to keep your distance and contact emergency services on 000 straight away.

10.01.2022 We have a local planned power outage that will impact our area tonight for critical works.

08.01.2022 At approximately five minutes to midnight last night pumper 387 and Hazmat Tanker 387 were responder with NSW RFS - Mudgee Headquarters to reports of a car fire just outside Mudgee on the Castlereagh Highway. Upon arrival firefighters found a Volkswagen utility fully engulfed in fire which had also started a grass fire in adjacent land. Crews immediately got to work in breathing apparatus and extinguished both the car fire and adjacent grass fire. The Castlereagh Highway was ...closed in both directions for a short period of time whilst firefighting operations were in place. The utility was totally destroyed by fire with the quick thinking actions of the occupants of the utility disconnecting the jet ski that was being towed behind the ute with no damage to this. Firefighters would like to thank the passing motorists for their patience during this incident and would also like to use this as a timely reminder to remind all motorists to please slow down around incident scenes when red and blue flashing lights are active.

07.01.2022 SOLAR PANEL FIRES | We are urging residents with solar panels to remain aware and vigilant after an influx in solar panel fires this year. This footage was obta...ined from a neighbour in Glenwood who called Triple Zero (000) after noticing a house nearby had solar panels alight. This was one of six solar panel fires that Fire and Rescue NSW attended in the past week alone. These statistics show solar panel fires are up 20 percent compared to last year and continuing to rise. Isolation switches appear to be causing almost half of solar panel fires, so it is vital to ensure solar panels are installed and regularly maintained by a professional and that systems comply with Australian Standards. Always do a licence check with NSW Fair Trading before any installation and wiring takes place. This can be found at https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels. #MoreThanFire #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #PreparedForAnything

06.01.2022 As the restrictions around COVID-19 quickly change day by day we remind everyone that we will still be there when you need us. Our team are prepared for anything and we will continue to provide the help you require when you need us. We encourage everyone to listen to and follow the advice of the medical professionals. We know that when the advice is issued and followed we end up with a better outcome like everyone did during the recent unprecedented fire season. We will get through this if we all pull together and follow the advice.

06.01.2022 On Monday night we had a visit from Fire and Rescue NSW BA Hazmat to go through our BA simulation exercise. It is the best training we can do without going to a training academy and the big positive is it comes to us. We had everything thrown at us on Monday to make it as realistic as possible. Not only did we have to navigate the semi but we also faced rain and a fire call thrown in as well. Massive thanks to our Instructor Barry and hope to see you back soon.

06.01.2022 Congratulations and thank you Barry for your commitment and dedication to our region. Always making sure our roads were as safe as they could be every shift. Time to rest up and enjoy your retirement.

05.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. 05.01.2022 A very moving tribute from Victoria Police who despite their loss continue to do the amazing job they do to keep everyone safe. Our thoughts go out to the officers families, friends and work colleagues in this terrible time when 4 officers never came home.

05.01.2022 Keep looking when Cooking Yesterday afternoon we were called with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 312 Gulgong to reports of a house fire with a smoke alarm sounding and smoke issuing from a house in Mudgee. Upon our arrival we were met by the residents of the premises who had just returned home after quickly heading to the shops. ... They had left the roast on the stove cooking with a misunderstanding of who was looking after it that led to our call. Thankfully they had a working smoke alarm which alerted neighbours who were able to call 000 which prevented a more serious outcome. Remember smoke alarms do save lives and in this case homes. We can’t stress how important it is to keep looking while you are cooking each and every time. If you can’t stay within a couple of steps turn it off until you can. #KeepLookingWhenCooking #FRNSW #firefighters #smokealarms #homefiresafety
