24.01.2022 Today we remember those who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of all those who have served. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

24.01.2022 KILLER HEATERS | Today we invited Ali Donaldson from 10 News First Sydney to witness the severity of a fire in a bedroom. This fire started from a heater placed... too close to the bed. In less than 3 minutes, the temperature just above head height was 900 deg. Remember: Be careful turning a heater on for the first time after being stored Keep everything 1 metre from the heater A working smoke alarm should be on every level of your home Check your smoke alarm regularly

22.01.2022 A busy 24hrs for B Platoon on Thursday. Started off with a few Automatic Fire Alarms at Moorebank while Liverpool crew were retraining in vertical rescue. After lunch we assisted at a concern for welfare, forcing entry to a unit where the elderly resident had previously passed away. Late afternoon we assisted with shoring up a house in Hinchinbrook after a family visitor accidentally ran through the brick pillar supporting 2 single roller doors. Early evening we were 2nd arri...ving at a factory fire in Moorebank that burned quickly and fiercely and unfortunately destroyed the entire factory and warehouse of Sphere Health Care. Everyone was accounted for due to the quick evacuation by staff. With such a fast moving fire a quick evacuation certainly prevented the loss of many lives. Staff and Management are commended for this. The cause of this fire is under investigation and we would appreciate understanding for all those affected by loss of employment by keeping comments civil and not jumping to unfounded conclusions. 21.01.2022 Today we farewelled one our favourite former firefighters. John worked most of the 1990’s at Busby before moving up the road to the new Bonnyrigg Heights Fire Station for his last 5 years until retirement. John’s jovial manner and his absolute positive outlook on life was infectious to everyone he worked with. It didn’t matter how dire the situation he would always face it with a whistle and a smile. It was heart warming to catch up with John’s family today and share stories of his life and times. He will be sorely missed by all. Thanks to the crew from Horningsea Park for their support today representing FRNSW.

21.01.2022 We have just returned from a reported house fire. On arrival it was discovered that an elderly resident had been turning off her built-in oil heater when it suddenly filled the room with thick black smoke. She quickly turned the heater off at the power point and went outside. Once outside she rang triple 0 and called for help. ... Firefighters wearing breathing protection entered the home and cleared the smoke with our large fan, the atmosphere was then checked with a gas detector before anyone could enter without breathing protection. The resident was checked over by Paramedics before being allowed back inside. Before we left we checked the smoke detectors and found that they were out of date, so we replaced them with new 10 year battery operated ones. With the cold weather just around the corner this is a timely reminder to have your heaters checked and serviced by a licensed installer. #protectingtheirreplaceable #onlyworkingsmokealarmssavelives #preparedforanything

10.01.2022 At 5.30pm this afternoon 031 Busby and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 049 Cabramatta were called to reports of a House Fire in Bonnyrigg. On route Fire and Rescue NSW Station 101 Bonnyrigg Heights were added to the call due to numerous triple zero calls stating that there was lots of smoke issuing from the dwelling and the rear of the house was alight. Upon arrival neighbours stated that two people lived in the home and they had not been seen or accounted for.... The crews from 031 and 101 entered the heavily smoke filled home with Breathing Apparatus and a charged Hose Line. Inside the dwelling they discovered two occupants suffering smoke inhalation and quickly removed them to safety, before locating a fire burning in the rear bedroom. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished.Fire damage was contained to the bedroom with the remainder of the home suffering considerable smoke damage. The occupants were treated by firefighters until paramedics arrived and took over there care. The cause of the fire is being investigated but would appear that its been caused by a candle that was not completely extinguished. The occupants were alerted to the fire by their working smoke alarm but instead of exiting the home they stayed inside and attempted to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose and no personal protection. #getoutstayoutcalltriplezero #onlyworkingsmokealarmssavelives #FRNSW #Protectingtheirreplaceable

10.01.2022 We are often asked what happens at large fires, how long do you stay? At about 6.30pm on Thursday 'B' platoon attended a large factory fire in Moorebank. They did a fantastic job under extreme fire conditions to gain control of the fire. After the initial organised chaos of such a large fire and the media get their pictures and story, things settle into the arduous and least glamorous part of firefighting - getting inside and putting out the pockets of fire that can't be seen... from outside. 'B' platoon worked through the night and handed over to 'C' platoon to continue the dirty work on Friday and then 'B' took over again on Saturday. The photo's attached show some of the dirty, not so glamorous side of firefighting. 31 Busby 'C' in the early hours of Friday morning. There is also a short video in the comments.

09.01.2022 Busby Firefighters this morning attended the scene of a motorcycle and car collision on Lyn Pde Prestons that unfortunately resulted in the death of the rider. Firefighters assisted the first arriving Paramedics with CPR on the young man but he was unable to be revived. Plaudits to the young lady who commenced first aid after happening upon the scene immediately after the collision for her valiant efforts. Police are still investigating the incident at this time so we would appreciate no speculation in the comments suffice to say that it is vital that all road users are vigilant at all times but especially at dawn and dusk when visibility is diminished.
