25.01.2022 As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. John F. Kennedy
25.01.2022 An afternoon walk with Juno the dog ended in a trip to the hospital via a police boat for a Castle Cove resident yesterday. Seventy five year old local bushwalker June slipped while walking around 6pm, injuring her ankle. Having her phone on her, June called her granddaughter, thinking she would be able to help her walk out. Unfortunately her injury proved too severe and she was not able stand at all and they called 000 for help. Luckily a passing trail runner, Mark, said he... would run up the trail to meet the first responders. CAFS Pump Fire and Rescue NSW Station 040 Willoughby Rescue Pump Fire and Rescue NSW Station 036 Crows Nest were responded to the rescue and arrived on scene at the same time as ambulance crews and with the barefoot trail runner Mark leading the way, began the trek down the 258 steps to find a sore and apologetic casualty. While June’s possible fractured ankle was being assessed by the paramedics, Station Officers Mark MacQuaim-Quarrell and Tristan Conn and an inspector from NSW Ambulance discussed methods of extraction from the bush. It was decided that as it was now night, very dark, with steep terrain above and given that June was closer to the waters of Castle Cove than the road it would be safer for the casualty, with less stress on her and the crews to call for assistance from the NSW Police Force Water Police and transport her out on a police boat. With June securely strapped into a stokes litter and her leg immobilised in a splint, crews carefully carried the casualty to the waters edge where police boat was waiting to transport her to the opposite side of Roseville Bridge to a waiting ambulance. This was a great combined effort of NSW’s premier emergency services with all agencies involved working harmoniously to attain an exceptional outcome. Juno the dog was taken home by June’s granddaughter. Story by SFF G.Macdonald Fire and Rescue NSW #preparedforanything
24.01.2022 Fun fact and we need some help. We recently learnt that the Ambos have a nickname for us firies - Water Fairies . We love it and happy to own it! Apparently at times it is a bit like following breadcrumbs on the way to incidents with how our appliances can leave a trail of water (especially around corners). Come to think of it, they make a good point. ... Anyway, I think we need to come up with one for them. Give us your best.
22.01.2022 The guys got a little confused when we pointed out that Willoughby has 18 of the State's best. Happy International Blokes Day, they really are a good bunch.
22.01.2022 We call parking the truck like this as a 'fend off' position. Not a sign of shocking driving but it helps keep us safe in traffic, giving us room to move around a lane. We emptied a couple of bags of peat moss which helps absorb oils and fuels left on the road following an accident.
21.01.2022 You really never know what you might come across in this job & here is a perfect example of that from our Comrades at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 082 Richmond #preparedforanything
20.01.2022 Hats off to our Comrades in Blue NSW Police Force for doing this! Beautiful Story!
20.01.2022 Where does one start with our wonderful volunteers across all forms in our country. Doing their bit whether it's during storms, bushfire, on the beach, with our wildlife, community members and apologies for anyone left out. Today we dip our hats and say thank you!!

18.01.2022 About 6.20pm we were 2nd arriving to help out our buddies Fire and Rescue NSW Station 51 Forestville in Belrose for a building fire. It was in a vacated library and under control after a short time. Fire and Rescue NSW Station 068 Narrabeen and Manly 024 ensured all crews were well rotated. Shout out to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 069 Dee Why who got to test their new CAFS capabilities. Big bubbles, no troubles Always thanks to our other band members at New South Wales Police Force, NSW Ambulance and Ausgrid
17.01.2022 How much do you think we could charge for a car wash?
17.01.2022 Over the past fortnight or so Fire and Rescue NSW has been deploying Strike Teams daily to flood affected areas to assist in any way we can. Here are some snaps from A Platoon Fire and Rescue NSW Station 040 Willoughby last week in Riverstone area & again today in Lower Portland area. #preparedforanything

05.01.2022 Sneaky little storm cell has claimed a leafy victim in Castle Cove. Remember to keep a good distance away from felled power lines, it won't end well
05.01.2022 Busy day for the team. Flyers of the north consisting of Fire and Rescue NSW Station 51 Forestville and ourselves. We arrived in Belrose to a house well alight and thankfully brought it under control quite quickly. Given the conditions and proximity to bushland, could have been a lot worse. Thanks to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 069 Dee Why and Warringah / Pittwater Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade for giving us a hand, especially with water issues! The Manly Daily
