23.01.2022 Did you know Dungog Shire has two Fire Services protecting the town and outlying communities? Fire and Rescue NSW & NSW Rural Fire Service You will find Fire and Rescue NSW performing a primary response with the town boundaries of Dungog. We are supported by NSW Rural Fire Brigades from Dungog Area, Salisbury/Bendolba, Wallarobba, Flat Tops and Clarence Town. We also respond to any rescue incidents throughout the Dungog Shire Council LGA and part of the Mid Coast Council LGA.... NSW Rural Fire Service Brigades provide a primary response outside the town boundary of Dungog and at times we are there to provide support when requested. We can also be found over the hill at Gresford and across to Stroud & Wards River areas supporting their Rural Fire Brigades. NSW Rural Fire Service consists of both remunerated and volunteer staff forming the worlds largest volunteer fire service. Fire and Rescue NSW is one of the worlds largest urban fire and rescue services and the busiest in Australia. Staffing is covered by either permanent or retained staff with volunteer community fire units scattered in areas of risk to wild fire. Dungog Fire Station is a retained based station where Fire Fighters operate on an on call basis and they are paid for their training, availability and response to incidents. You may see two different trucks, two different sets of uniform however we both have the same objectives working together as a productive team ensuring a safe and positive outcome for any emergency. We are all members of our community #Dungog #Fire #Rescue #Emergency #FRNSW #RFS #VisitDungog

21.01.2022 Electric Blankets The latest studies show that 37% of fire fatalities in the home occur within the bedroom or sleeping area. Electric blankets are a known fire hazard so please check for damage, especially to the electrical wiring, before placing it on your bed this winter. Never leave an electric blanket unattended when its switched on and turn it off when you go to sleep.

20.01.2022 Dungog Fire Station is staffed by Retained/On Call Fire Fighters 24hrs a day 365 days a year. Some Fire & Rescue NSW Stations are staffed by Permanent or a mixture of Permanent and On Call Fire Fighters. An explanation of On Call Fire Fighters can be found below. Retained (on-call) firefighters are everyday women and men who balance their work, study and family commitments with a critical on-call role in their local community. Retained (on-call) firefighters work as part o...f a team (or crew) to provide, when needed, an extraordinary service to their communities. A retained (on-call) firefighter can be anyone who is an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident. Retained (on-call) firefighters are trained in a range of skills, including firefighting, first aid, rescue, workplace safety, heavy-vehicle operations, emergency management, and safe use of specialised tools such as chainsaws and rescue equipment. With no two callouts the same, retained (on-call) firefighters respond to a wide variety of emergency incidents including building fires, grass and bushfires, chemical hazards, motor vehicle accidents, domestic/industrial rescues and assist with recovery from natural disasters such as storms and floods. They also play a vital role in community fire safety and prevention activities from installing smoke alarms for the elderly to fire education for children and people from non-English speaking backgrounds. https://vimeo.com/175165777

15.01.2022 Just before 2:00pm this afternoon, Dungog Fire & Rescue were responded to reports of a Grass Fire on the northern side of town. Upon arrival Fire Fighters were faced with a fast running grass fire fueled by strong winds and dry conditions in the rail corridor and into properties. Several structures were at threat however immediate support was provided by NSW Rural Fire Service units from Dungog, Flat Tops, Wallarobba, Clarence Town and Vacy. The risk was reduced and the fire was eventually extinguished. Further resources were responding from the Maitland area however thankfully they were called off.

14.01.2022 We had visitors from our Rescue Neighbours at Port Stephens SES this evening. Deputy Unit Controller Bruce Gendre, Rescue Manager Ralf Gendre and Leading Senior Rescue Operator David Cockbain travelled to Dungog to discuss future multi agency training exercises relating to General Land Rescue responsibilities. We were shown some of the equipment carried in their Light Rescue Vehicle and exchanged ideas/techniques using these tools. Dungog Fire Station holds a unique rescue b...oundary covering over 2200sq KM encompassing a large portion of the Barrington Tops. We border with Gloucester SES in the north, Fire & Rescue Tea Gardens 471 to the east, Port Stephens SES south east, ASNSW Rescue Rutherford south west, Fire & Rescue Branxton 237 west and ASNSW Rescue Singleton north west. Multi agency training is imperative in maintaining effective response and resolutions to incidents whilst forming sound relationships with fellow first responders. #rescue #Dungog #frnsw #portstephens #fire #SES #emergency

02.01.2022 Update from our neighbours at Dungog Rural Fire Brigade regarding Permits

01.01.2022 During the morning of Sunday 25th August 2019, Dungog Fire and Rescue were responded to a property west of Booral after a male had unfortunately managed to trap his fingers in a Food Processor. ASNSW Paramedics responded and treated the male however due to the complexity of the damage sustained, the male was transported directly to hospital with his hand still in the processor. Not all Fire and Rescue units hold the responsibility and accreditation of General Land Rescue. The... definition of Rescue does not only relate to Motor Vehicle Accidents which is the common perception. In fact, it relates to the safe removal of persons or domestic animals from actual or threatened danger of physical harm. A General Land Rescue unit has the skills and equipment required to undertake road crash rescue, agricultural rescue, animal rescue, industrial rescue, domestic rescue and is trained in Urban Search and Rescue. Dungog Fire Station holds the GLR responsibility for the Dungog Shire and part of Mid Coast Shire for the suburbs of Stroud, Booral and their surrounding villages.

01.01.2022 Here at Dungog Fire Station...we do not just respond to fires or accidents, we focus on a number of other initiatives to protect our community.
