25.01.2022 At 1:12pm today (Thursday 11th March 2021) Forster Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters were alerted to a "Bus on fire" in Lake street Forster, only a block away from our station. When Pumper 295 and Rescue Tanker 295 arrived on scene ,our local NSW Police Force officers had already established road blocks for us to safely work on the road and determined that no passengers remained on the coach. The driver did suffer some minor smoke inhalation trying to put the fire out in its e...arly stages unsuccessfully and then evacuating all his passengers. He was initially treated by firefighters until paramedics from the NSW Ambulance service arrived on scene. There were concerns regarding some powerlines that had been damaged by the intensity of the fire and had fallen close to the bus. Fire crews adopted a defensive firefighting strategy until it was determined the power was off by qualified personnel from Essential Energy. Once power was confirmed off, crews were able to get closer to the vehicle and achieve final extinguishment after about 45 minutes. Also during this incident Rescue Tanker 295 was responded twice to other incidents in the area (a person stuck in a lift and a vehicle accident on the freeway at Wootton). Thankfully they weren't required at either incident in the end and were able to get back and assist Pumper 295's crew with the bus fire. Hazmat Tanker 453 from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 453 Taree was then also sent as a precaution to cover our fire district in case of more emergency calls being received while we were busy attending the above mentioned incidents. 21.01.2022 Bush fire season starts in the Local Government Areas of Mid Coast and Port Macquarie - Hastings today due to local conditions. While an early fire season is ...not unusual in these areas, increased grass growth due to recent rain could prove problematic over coming weeks and months. Don't be the fire risk to your community. 21.01.2022 Over the weekend it was an end of an era for Forster fire station with our Engine Keeper John Fagan retiring after 30 years service as a retained firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW. John joined the then New South Wales Fire Brigade at Forster on the 1st of April 1990. Since then John has attended a plethora of emergency incidents ranging in type from - House fires, Large structural fires, Vehicle fires, Cliff rescues, Motor vehicle accidents , Chemical and fuel spills and ...probably way to many "Cat stuck in a tree" rescues then he can remember Over the years he has spent numerous hours as one of our stations engine keepers, making sure our stations fire trucks are mechanically sound and ready to roll at a moments notice. John also spent some time at Fire + Rescue NSW Tea Gardens 471 attending emergency incidents with their crew. Very Humble and always happy to pass on his vast firefighting knowledge to others , whether it be via community fire education, station training and station drills, during fire calls or just mentoring and giving advice to our new recruits on how to be better and more competent firefighters. We couldn't let this occasion pass without acknowledging John's wife Alison and his daughters, Stace , Kalah and Bre. Thank you for letting us borrow your Husband / Dad for all those silly a.m early morning calls and at other inconvenient times over these years when you may have wanted him at home with you. Without your support and others like yourself , many retained firefighters wouldn't be able to do the job. Again thank you Firefighter Fagan has been awarded the Australian National Medal (with 1 clasp) and the Fire and Rescue NSW Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (2 clasps) during his long and distinguished career with the fire brigade. There's an old saying in the fire service and that's "leave the place better than when you started" and John has done more than his fair share to make sure this happened during his time with our station We wish John all the best and look forward to celebrating his career with a few "Cordials" when virus restrictions have further eased. Thank you John for your service to our station and to the community of Forster / Tuncurry 295 crew See more
12.01.2022 Officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District are currently investigating and compiling reports for the NSW State Coroner, in relation to several 2019 bushf...ires through Strike Force Viridian. These fires include the Crowdy Bay/ Bills Crossing Fire, Failford Road Darawank Fire, Goldens Road Forster Fire, Hillville Fire, Minimbah Road Fire, Riley Creek Trail Fire, Rumba Dump Complex Fire and the Thunderbolts Way Bretti Fire. An important part of compiling all relevant information for the State Coroner is to gather feedback from the people and organisations impacted by those fires. Hundreds of people affected have been contacted and provided important information via a completed questionnaire for the Coroner. If you suffered building or property loss in the above-mentioned fires and have not provided information to police, please contact Strike Force Viridian investigators at Taree Police Station on 02-5594 8299 or by email: [email protected], so your information can be captured.

11.01.2022 At 10:31am today (Friday 26th February 2021) Fire+Rescue Forster fire fighters were alerted to a house on fire in the Forster Keys area. Pumper 295 and Rescue Tanker 295 quickly responded to a 2-story house on Elizabeth parade which was well alight. Fire fighters worked quickly to control the fire in the burning building as well as to protect several nearby properties which were being threatened by the blaze. The fire was well advanced and challenging to manage with the main ...seat of the fire at the rear of the second floor and difficult to access. Also, the weather was very warm and sunny which placed additional pressure on firefighters working hard in Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). The fire was brought under control with the assistance of several RFS units and F+R Tanker 453 from Taree, which brought additional fire fighters and replacement SCBA air cylinders. Thankfully no one injured in the fire, however the building was extensively damaged. See more

10.01.2022 On this day last year (26/10/2019) the Forster-Tuncurry township was once again impacted by a bush fire in the Black Summer of 2019-2020. The Summer bushfire season was already appearing to be the busiest and most challenging ever for fire services throughout the country. Many serious fires had already burnt through thousands of kilometers of bushland and there were already several fires burning in Northern NSW and Queensland on this day. Locally there were fires around Por...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Just before 9:30pm last night our station was called to a reported "Truck Fire" on the Pacific Highway just south of Coolongolook. Once on scene our crew worked with firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service - Mid Coast District , Fire and Rescue NSW Station 453 Taree and Fire + Rescue NSW Tea Gardens 471 to completely extinguish a prime mover and trailer carrying numerous vehicles shortly before midnight. 07.01.2022 On this day last year (21/8/2019) the Forster-Tuncurry area experienced the first of many bush fires in the Black Summer of 2019-2020. The Summer bush fire season was already underway with firefighters from Forster Fire + Rescue being tasked to assist at several bush fires in the weeks before this incident. This included the Lindfield Park Road Fire near Port Macquarie (started 18th July 2019 and was not extinguished until 12th February 2020) and a major blaze west of Cresc...ent Head (10th and 11th of August). Just after 5am on Wednesday the 21st of August 2019, Forster Fire + Rescue firefighters were alerted to a fire in the Forster Keys area. It was soon established that the fire was on Big Island on the west side of Pipers Creek directly across from Elizabeth Parade. The fire was intense and produced large amounts of smoke, ash, and embers from the thick ground cover and large trees on the uninhabited island. Several RFS units as well as Fire + Rescue appliances from Forster, Taree and Laurieton attended the area and patrolled for most of the day, very concerned with the possibility of spot fires starting from the constant rain of ash and embers being blown over houses and towards other bush areas. Very little could be done about the actual fire as the island was inaccessible to firefighting equipment, though some water bombing was undertaken. The next day, Thursday 22nd of August, a wind change caused the fire to flare and run to the north where it managed to cross Pipers creek. In the afternoon, with a strengthening wind from the South West, business and property along the Lakes Way were under threat. A furniture shop and the mobile phone tower behind it as well as Smugglers Cove Caravan park were the closest to the flames. A combined force of Fire + Rescue appliances and multiple RFS units along with water bombing aircraft managed to stop the fire and soon brought it under control. Better weather conditions over the next few days enabled the fire to be extinguished. The summer bush fire season will be upon us again soon. Do you have a bush Fire Survival Plan? 04.01.2022 On this day last year (7/11/2019), during the Black Summer fire season, the middle of suburban Forster was impacted by a bush fire for the first time in many years. By this stage of the year bush fires were becoming the normal way of life for most of northern NSW. The smoke-filled air brought spectacular sunsets but was a reminder of the damage already done to many communities throughout the state. Many houses had been already lost and the millions of dollars of damage to p...Continue reading
