20.01.2022 In New South Wales, cooking, overloaded powerboards and heaters are the main causes of fires in the home. These are all preventable! The last thing we want to ...see during this time is an increase in preventable home fires. Our Commissioner Paul Baxter has some very important safety advice: See more
20.01.2022 Dont be a statistic! A fire can take hold in 3 minutes, it only takes seconds to prevent one. Frayed or damaged cords can start a fire. If you have taken your electric blankets out from storage, check that your electric blanket is in good working order before use.... 20.01.2022 ALEXANDRIA | A number of crews attended a house fire in Alexandria just after 2pm this afternoon. Upon arrival crews had discovered that the home did not have ...a working smoke alarm. One person had evacuated from the home and the fire was quickly extinguished. The occupant of the home was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to hospital. This is timely reminder for everyone to check their smoke alarms and ensure they are working - only working smoke alarms help save lives. 20.01.2022 Absolutely heartbreaking news out of Victoria overnight. We grieve with every member of Victoria Police and every member of the wider emergency services family.
19.01.2022 Staying at Home. Due to the current situation with families, friends, room mates and individuals staying at home almost all the time, it is extremely important ...that every building that has people sleeping in it has a working smoke alarm. The minimum requirement is one smoke alarm per level, but Fire and Rescue NSW recommends installing smoke alarms in all bedrooms, living spaces (including hallways and stairways) and even the garage. Avoid fitting smoke alarms in or near your kitchen or bathroom. On April 5th, it is the end of daylight savings so its a good reminder to "change your battery as you change your clock". If you have the newer 10 year battery life alarm installed, no need to worry but its worth your while to give it a little dusting and test it by pushing the button on the centre of your alarm. 19.01.2022 LEST WE FORGET | On Remembrance Day, we pay our respects to those who died fighting to protect our nation. If you’re attending an event in NSW today, please re...member to stay COVID-safe by physical distancing, wearing a mask where necessary and following the current rules for gatherings. Together, we will remember them. #RemembranceDay2020 #MoreThanFire #Community
19.01.2022 Ventilation drill. Bedding in the theory by putting our knowledge into practice. Filling a vacant house with smoke and using two different methods to clear it; a charged line directed out the window and a PPV fan to sequentially ventilate each room. The hanging toilet paper is a very effective method to allow us to see the air path through the building. (We may or may not have inadvertently set off the smoke detector) #311station #frnsw #ventilation #training
18.01.2022 Being retained on-call firefighters, we often dont have the luxury of immediate access to some of the services our city cousins do, however we pride ourselves on our ingenuity and ability to make-do. A siren is a pretty important part of a fire truck, and when the one on the Griffith Pump died while responding to a call today, being 600km from our fleet section in Greenacre, (with permission from our qualified mechanics in fleet) we borrowed parts off one of our spare trucks to keep our main truck on the road. This will keep us ready to respond to an emergency until such time that a spare part arrives from fleet. #frnsw #311 #countrykidsdoitbest #emergencyresponder #bushmechanics

12.01.2022 This is our Karen. Stationed at busy Station 073 Yennora, our Karen doesnt need to be told to wear her mask and the only video she is in at Bunnings is when sh...e is fundraising for the Firies Climb for Motor Neurone Disease and the only time she demands to speak to the manager is to compliment them. 09.01.2022 Did you know there are four pillars of emergency management? 1.Prevention 2.Preparedness 3.Response 4.Recovery. Whilst we are best known for the Response, all four of these components play a part in what we do at FRNSW. ... Today, after giving a certain little one a big fright by showing up with our scary sirens (they can be a little loud and daunting), we managed to alleviate a little bit of the fear by having these gorgeous brothers give us a hand with the recovery phase (which involves getting things back to as close to normal as possible). We hosed the soot away while Dad was being looked over by Ambulance (as a precautionary measure). Thanks for the help boys- you did a great job! #griffithfires #311station #FRNSW
07.01.2022 This fire was caused when wood stored too close to a combustion heater ignited - keep a clear area at least one metre around any heater in your house. For more fire safety tips visit fire.nsw.gov.au/winter #PreparedForAnything #FRNSW #311station
07.01.2022 To most 343 is just a number. To nearly all firefighters around the world, it is a humbling reminder of the events that took place in New York on this day, 19 y...ears ago. This is because on 9/11, 343 New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters did not finish their shift. The tragedy claimed the lives of 2977 innocent victims, and many continue to be impacted. To date, 227 additional firefighters have died with illnesses related to 9/11, with 27 names recently added to the FDNY World Trade Centre Memorial Wall. FRNSW shares deep and personal connections with FDNY, we will never forget the immediate and ongoing loss they were dealt and continue to deal with, all those affected are in our thoughts today. 04.01.2022 Griffith RFS crews and Fire & Rescue NSW working side by side to extinguish a fully involved house in the early hours this morning. It was all hands on deck to relay water to the area, and then later to wash and hang the hose used. Fortunately there were no occupants at the time and everyone is safe and accounted for.
04.01.2022 Daylight Savings ends this Sunday. So while you are changing your clocks also check your smoke alarms. Only working smoke alarms save lives. #FRNSW #311 #onlyworkingsmokealarmssaveslives #isolationtodolist

02.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, ... and in the morning, We will remember them. Laurence Binyon.
01.01.2022 COVID - 19 UPDATE There are a few changes that have taken place with the way Fire and Rescue NSW operates that you will notice. We hope you understand and can help us through the next few weeks.... Some of the changes include: We are cancelling all non essential community engagements, so we wont be able to visit your school or childcare centre to pass on fire safety messages for a while. If you visit a fire station for any non life threatening issues, sorry but we are not going to be able to let you in. You may notice fire trucks at emergencies with fire fighters sitting inside. We are minimising the amount of fire fighter contact with the community. If you see us sitting in our fire trucks and not getting out this is not us being rude. Feel free to give us a wave from a distance well still wave back. We wont be able to show your kids our fire truck and let them sit in it for a while. And unfortunately we wont be able to shake your hands for a while. Behind the scenes we are doing a lot of hard work to continously decontaminate our trucks, uniforms and fire stations to ensure us and our community are protected. Thanks, we could not do this without everyones support.
01.01.2022 We are moving online for our 2020 open day that was scheduled for 16 May. We would love to hear what you would like to see from us. Options include a virtual station tour, safety demonstrations, one on one interviews with our fireys- you tell us what you want to see!! Let us know in the comments!
