Solar pa...nels were found to be the cause of four fires in the last week alone and are up more than 20% from this time last year, with solar isolation switches causing almost half of all solar panel-related fires. NSW residents can play their part in ensuring solar panels are as safe as possible by making sure their solar panel system complies with Australian standards and using a qualified installer. It's always a good idea to do a license check with NSW Fair Trading before any work takes place. Remember, calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed. Riverstone Fir...e Station were called to a kitchen fire on Wednesday, 9 September after a pot of oil caught alight. The kitchen was extensively damaged, however the owner's of the home escaped with only minor injuries. Check out the below video to see a kitchen fire through the eyes of a firefighter. Kitchen fires are the leading cause of house fires in NSW and a hot oil fire can engulf a room in a matter of minutes. Never attempt to put out an oil fire using water. 16.01.2022 Another day and more rescue training. Today’s session was Complex Transport Rescue held out at Richmond Vale Railway Museum. We had various scenarios of rescuing a dummy stuck under a train or between the train & platform. Our air hydraulics Holmatro - rams & airbags were again showing their capabilities with the crew being able to shift a carriage away from a platform, lift one train wheel off the track, then two train wheels from the tracks and then slightly lift a ...carriage away from the bogie. Many thanks to the volunteers at the Rail Museum Fire for allowing us access to their trains. This access has given us a unique opportunity to real life training. Thank you. P.S. After we completed drill we all just loved looking at the old trains and reminiscing about the train trips we had undertaken over the years. 16.01.2022 EAST MAITLAND | Multiple Fire and Rescue Stations from the Newcastle Region including Fire and Rescue NSW Station 374 Maitland Fire & Rescue NSW Station 455 Rut...herford Newcastle Fire Station Fire and Rescue NSW Station 382 Morpeth and Fire And Rescue NSW Station 454 Tarro responded to a house fire early this morning and while the house was totally destroyed by fire, there is a happy ending to this tail. Six residents had managed to self-evacuate when crews arrived however, the family dog, Betty, was still trapped inside the home. Thinking the worst, firefighters worked for over an hour to bring the blaze under control. Towards the end of operations, with the structure badly compromised, crews noticed Betty moving through the rubble of the second story towards a balcony. Firefighters were able to use a ladder platform to lift Betty safely from the balcony and into the arms of her worried owners. Betty was very happy to be rescued and is being treated by the local veterinary clinic but is expected to make a full recovery. #MoreTheFire #PreparedForAnything #DogRescue

15.01.2022 All four 24hr shift here at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 373 East Maitland are continually moving through the many different aspects of their rescue training. Yesterday C platoon were out at WesTrac Cat, Tomago doing hands-on heavy lift rescues with our 20T Holmatro airbags and hydraulic rams using air power. Learning the capabilities & techniques of our new specialist Rescue equipment and how to carefully lift heavy machinery off trapped dummies. C platoon successfully & ...quickly lifted a few pieces of very heavy machinery, like a 10T roller compactor truck and an 25T excavator bucket in scenarios to remove trapped dummies. 15.01.2022 To most 343 is just a number. To nearly all firefighters around the world, it is a humbling reminder of the events that took place in New York on this day, 19 y...ears ago. This is because on 9/11, 343 New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters did not finish their shift. The tragedy claimed the lives of 2977 innocent victims, and many continue to be impacted. To date, 227 additional firefighters have died with illnesses related to 9/11, with 27 names recently added to the FDNY World Trade Centre Memorial Wall. FRNSW shares deep and personal connections with FDNY, we will never forget the immediate and ongoing loss they were dealt and continue to deal with, all those affected are in our thoughts today. 15.01.2022 Last week firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 059 Eastwood were on their way back from grabbing lunch when a driver lost control of their car and crashed into a wall and nearby cars. The crew sprung into action and scooped up a lady standing near by. This is their story.

13.01.2022 Rescue training continues for the crews at Fire and Rescue NSW Station 373 East Maitland. Cordage (part 1) was the drill for todays 24hr shift. We started the day going over the 14 types of rope/tape knots we are required to be proficient in tying in certain circumstances.... Then it was becoming familiar with the new pieces of cordage equipment ie Petzel I’D L (descender), prusik loops, rigging plate etc and how to setup various types of rescue lines using anchor points and mechanical advantage. Finally, we were able to safely practice within our engine bay a vertical mirror line belay (for a single rescue operator) and then a rescue, (rescue operator and a trapped person) from the mezzanine area down to the engine bay floor. 09.01.2022 We all need a little help from our friends. Our Flood Rescue crews have teamed up with Surf Lifesaving rescue boats to search properties for people who may be s...tranded. In the last 72 hours we have attended 330 calls for storm assistance, and conducted 235 flood rescues. This has included rescuing people and their animals by 4x4 or boat and delivering life-saving medications to isolated communities. To achieve this, in addition to our regular call-outs, we have deployed four strike teams to Chester Hill where homes have been badly damaged, we also have an RPAS (drone) team assisting. We have sent one strike team to the Central Coast and multiple Strike Teams to Taree, Port Macquarie and Kempsey. If you call us, we will answer and if you need it we will send it. 08.01.2022 Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 304 Gosford and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 357 Lambton put their technical skills to the test during... a difficult horse rescue at a property in Matcham just before 11:30am this morning. Crews were called to the scene where they found a female horse caught under a fence, laying on her side in a dam. The Technical Rescue Crew were on scene to attempt to safely extract the horse and after two long hours the horse, named Naaman Flaunt It, was freed. Four trucks attended the incident with more than 10 firefighters and a number of local residents assisting with the rescue. 04.01.2022 The firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 373 East Maitland have started their training to become qualified Rescue Operators. As well as still being fully capable for firefighting response, our fire truck is having some internal remodeling to carry a swag of new & different high end rescue tools. First stage of our training is road crash rescue. This involves undertaking practical drill on areas such as stablising vehicle(s), glass management, how to cut a car from a... patient(s) and using new equipment such as a tirfor winch, hydraulic shears, hydraulic rams, hydraulic spreaders, hydraulic pedal cutter. Thanks to their two working smoke alarms, they were alerted to the fire - one of which they had replaced the battery in last month.
