Valerie Taylor has worked with Steven Spielberg filming scenes for Jaws and Blue Lagoon, as well as ... diving the entire length of the Great Barrier Reef from Lady Elliot Island up to the Torres Strait and even teaching Mick Jagger how to scuba dive. 08.01.2022 Although the viz has not been that flash there is still a lot of life around if you slow down and have a good look. The smaller stuff comes into its own when you only have 2-3M to work with. For the photographers out there three things become even more important...patience (to poke around slowly and then not scare off your subjects), getting very close (to put as little water as possible between your lens and the subject) and strobe angle (to do everything you can to minimise backscatter). Here's a few shots from Clifton over the weekend in what can only be described as 'disappointing' viz. Hope you managed to get in the water.

06.01.2022 Congratulations to Aksel Rasmussen and Joanna Chen who both completed their Deep Course (to 40m) over the weekend with Graham Willis. 4 Boat dives...two in Sydney on Froggie's Oceapro and two on ex HMAS Adelaide at Terrigal on Dive Import's boat. Aksel and Joanna covered all the skills flawlessly and seemed to have fun touring the Adelaide. We also managed to find a couple of Weedy Sea Dragons with eggs at Old Man's Hat....as an added extra.

04.01.2022 Jump in at Bare Island whilst the seas are flat and the viz at 6-7m...it might well be better on a high or low tide. Plenty of different Nudibranchs around (I counted 7 different types), Red Indian Fish on the Western side, lots of jellys in the water (not stingers) and a riot of soft (and hard) corals and sponges. Get in there...you know you want to!

01.01.2022 In at Nelson Bay yesterday for a couple of dives on the SS Oakland. If you read its history its amazing it only sank when it did...it certainly tried to write itself off a few times before! Anyway a lovely wreck in 28m of water, so take Nitrox if doing a couple of dives, on it. No penetration on the wreck but 'intact' from stern to bow with the boiler and engine clearly in place, also the rudder under the stern. Plenty of Port Jacksons flopping around with a ball of catfish and plenty of Wobbegongs on the wreck. Lots of colour in the sponges and plenty of whalesong to pass the time of day....oh and Dolphins on the surface interval. So grab some gear, take a spot on a boat in Nelson Bay and get out there!
