25.01.2022 Great news! Research published today reveals how #FrogID records are providing a rapid understanding of how Aussie frogs are recovering from the Black Summer bushfires. In the first few months, 45 frog species, including some rare and threatened, were recorded calling! FrogID records now and into the future are vital to understanding the full impact of fires on our frogs and their homes keep up the great work, Australia! https://theconversation.com/australians-recorded-frog-calls #citscioz #bushfirerecovery #wildoz
25.01.2022 Calling in Western Australia recently was the Bilingual Froglet (Crinia bilingua). The male’s call has two parts, hence its scientific name. It can be a high-pitched rattle or clicking sound with a musical quality! Thanks for this fantastic habitat photo and frog call submission, Larissa! #FrogID #citscioz
24.01.2022 How do we know that frogs of one species all call in the same way, and could there even be regional accents? Listen to our scientists in this latest episode of Off Track to find out! https://www.abc.net.au//offtrack/frog-accents-bonk/12899000
24.01.2022 There is a chance of a wetter than average September for parts of the Australian coast, which may mean good frogging conditions for some this #BiodiversityMonth! #DYK that frogs are one of the most threatened groups of animals on our planet? By putting more frogs on the map with the #FrogID app, we can help save our frogs and their homes. : Cape York Graceful Tree Frog (Litoria bella) by Dr Jodi Rowley... #FrogFriday #citscioz #wildoz
22.01.2022 Roth’s Tree Frog (Litoria rothii) is now calling in the Northern Territory. One of its key identifying features is its eye - it has an iris that’s red in the upper half, and silver in the lower half. #FrogID #citscioz
21.01.2022 We receive some pretty great nature shots alongside frog calls, like this photo taken along the Greenough River in WA. Thanks for submitting your frog recordings and beautiful #froghabitat photos through the #FrogID app!
20.01.2022 A sloping pond edge like this one is helpful for ground-dwelling frogs to exit in and out of water safely. Frogs like the Striped Marsh Frog (Limnodynastes peronii) lack toe-pads and are not built for climbing steep walls. What features does your pond have to help different types of frogs? #FrogID
19.01.2022 We’ve been receiving some great recordings of frogs from southeast QLD recently, including this Pearson’s Stream Frog (Litoria pearsoniana)! Sadly, amphibian chytrid fungus has impacted this species and it has declined throughout much of its range. Help us understand how our frogs are going by submitting calls through #FrogID
19.01.2022 FrogID has recorded species number 198! Found in South Australia, the Southern Flinders Ranges Froglet (Crinia riparia) was recorded by #FrogID user Nigel Smart and joins our national #FrogID database! Keep your FrogID submissions coming and help put more frogs on the map!... #biodiversitymonth #citscioz #threatenedspeciesday
18.01.2022 That’s a wrap! Great work, Australia this year’s FrogID Week received over 10,000 submissions from over 1493 FrogID users! Our validators are busy listening to every ribbit, croak, bark and whistle. We can’t wait to share our findings with you all. Here are a pair of Endangered Booroolong Frogs in amplexus (Litoria booroolongensis) found by Gracie Liu during #FrogIDWeek. While our annual count is over, please keep your #FrogID recordings coming to help save our Aussie frogs.
18.01.2022 This gorgeous little Green Stream Frog (Litoria phyllochroa) was spotted next to a #FrogID user’s aquaponics. What frogs are calling in your backyard? Submit their calls through the FrogID app and find out! #FrogFriday #citscioz
18.01.2022 We’re happy to see that #FrogID users are recording the Rough Frog (Cyclorana verrucosa). It’s a burrowing frog that will emerge to breed and feed after extended periods of rain. Thanks for the submission, Michael! #citscioz
16.01.2022 Thanks Mallee CMA! Help inform Environmental Water Management Plans in your state and Australia wide through the #FrogID app.
16.01.2022 On this #ThreatenedSpeciesDay, we’re thinking of the Southern Barred Frog (Mixophyes balbus). Formerly found from northern NSW, south to northeastern VIC along the coast and ranges, it has severely declined due to amphibian chytrid fungus. #FrogID is aiming to understand how they, and other frog species, are going, especially after the unprecedented 2019-2020 bushfires. Using #FrogID is a good way to record and monitor our threatened frog species with minimal disturbance.... : Mixophyes balbus after fire in Gibraltar Range by Dr Jodi Rowley #biodiversitymonth #bushfirerecovery #wildoz
16.01.2022 These frogs are having a bromeliad pool party in NSW! It’s great to see rain providing good conditions for our backyard frogs. Thanks for your #FrogID submissions, Michael! #citscioz #wildoz
15.01.2022 Here’s a photo of the Green and Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea) that FrogID user Tim Bawden recorded from a bushfire impacted area of Victoria during #FrogIDWeek. Listed as Vulnerable in Australia, receiving submissions like Tim’s helps us understand how our threatened species are recovering. Please continue to use #FrogID in fire-affected areas if it is safe to. #citscioz #bushfirerecovery

15.01.2022 Our #Frog of the Month is the New England Tree Frog (Litoria subglandulosa). It’s found only in the ranges of far northeast NSW, and just over the border to southeast QLD. What a great recording for #FrogID, Gracie! Find out more about this species at www.frogid.net.au/frogs/litoria-subglandulosa #citscioz #wildoz
13.01.2022 Tiny (~2 cm!) Eastern Dwarf Tree Frogs (Litoria fallax) are now calling throughout eastern Australia. They look similar to other frog species, and are most easily distinguished by their call. We love receiving #FrogID recordings of this species - thank you! #citscioz
12.01.2022 Here at #FrogID we've been receiving lots of photos of tadpoles alongside calling frogs! These are likely the developing tadpoles of the Brown Tree Frog (Litoria ewingii). Tadpoles of this species can reach a total length of 5.5 cm and are black, brown, or gold in colour. Often they will remain at the surface of water bodies and can take six to seven months to develop into frogs!
09.01.2022 The Banjo Frog (Limnodynastes dumerilii) is a great backyard buddy! Its distinctive "bonk" call is likened to a banjo string being plucked. Thank you for your #FrogID submission, Lindsay! #backyardbuddy #wildoz #citscioz
09.01.2022 Calling in southeast QLD at the moment is the Eastern Stony Creek Frog (Litoria wilcoxii). Breeding males can be uniform bright yellow, like this guy! #FrogID #FrogFriday
08.01.2022 Meet Brittany, a #FrogID validator and PhD candidate at UNSW and the Australian Museum. Brittany is using the #FrogID data to help build our understanding of the impact of urban areas on frog biodiversity and the longer term persistence of southeast Australian frogs following the intense 2019/2020 bushfires. Please keep recording frog calls in these areas if you can! #citscioz #citizensciencemonth
08.01.2022 We wonder how many Aussie frogs are relaxing in @yatesgardening pots this #FrogFriday! This Peron’s Tree Frog (Litoria peronii) sure looks at ease in its hanging home! #FrogID #citscioz
07.01.2022 This fantastic Desert Spadefoot (Notaden nichollsi) was found amongst the sand dunes of the Pilbara region after rain. They spend most of their lives underground, in burrows. What a great find, Tim! #FrogID #FrogFriday #wildoz
06.01.2022 Introducing species 204 to the #FrogID dataset - the Wailing Frog (Cyclorana vagitus)! Its call was recorded by Joss Forbes in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Please keep recording to help us put more frogs on the map! #CitSciOz #CitizenScienceMonth
06.01.2022 Samantha was lucky enough to photograph her resident Tusked Frog (Adelotus brevis) while recording with the FrogID app. Males of this species have two large protrusions on their lower jaw, resembling tusks! #FrogID #citscioz #wildoz
04.01.2022 Louis was able to snap a great photo of the Brown Tree Frog (Litoria ewingii) while recording its call using the #FrogID app. This species breeds throughout the year so please keep an ear out and record with the FrogID app whenever you hear it https://portal.frogid.net.au/frogs/litoria-ewingii
03.01.2022 New #FrogID research led by Gracie Liu has helped work out which Australian frogs are best equipped to survive the human world. Out of the 87 species that were examined, an overwhelming 70% of species were found intolerant of human modified habitats. Frogs that call from vegetation tended to be most tolerant, suggesting that greenspaces and ‘frog-friendly’ gardens could help support the frogs that we share our cities and altered landscapes with. Reach our blog to find out more and to see how different frog species rank: https://australian.museum//which-frogs-are-best-equipped-/
03.01.2022 Another great submission from #FrogIDWeek last week is the Endangered Common Mist Frog (Litoria rheocola) submitted by Edward Bell in North QLD. Formerly found throughout the Wet Tropics region, this species has declined due to the amphibian chytrid fungus and is slowly showing signs of recovery. #FrogIDWeek may be over, but you can continue to record Australian frog calls with the #FrogID app throughout the entire year #FrogID #citscioz #throwbackthursday
