15.01.2022 Our new Hydroacoustic Monitoring Unit (HMU) made it to Spain and is currently crossing the Atlantic Ocean with Team O2 (Omar Samra & Omar Nour) who are rowing m...ore than 3,000 nautical miles from the Canary Islands to Antigua for the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. The HMU is a custom designed sensor for remote long-duration aquatic recordings that will generate hourly acoustic samples for the duration of the expedition. Through acoustic transect monitoring this project will reveal the sonic layers of the expedition and inform the development of a radiophonic work that will draw on synchronised data streams including temperature and voice interviews to correlate the weather patterns and physical conditions of the athletes with the sonic diversity of their surrounding aquatic ecosystems. Follow the expedition here: https://www.taliskerwhiskyatlanticchallenge.com/2017racetr/ #TeamO2 #AtlanticCrossing #sciart #oceanlistening #ecoacoustics #SynapseAlumni Collaboration with Simon Linke, Frontier Labs and Sarah Jane Pell. Thanks to ANAT [Australian Network for Art and Technology] for hosting the Synapse Alumni gathering where the HMU Sounding the Atlantic idea was born
