25.01.2022 A re-make of a classic

25.01.2022 Spread it out... make it happen #mondaymessage #motivationalmonday

22.01.2022 This photo is the exact vision I kept in my mind the whole time I was preparing for our Cabaret Soiree - I didn't know if we'd get there but we did! This is that magical moment where all of 2020 could be forgotten and everyone witnessing this performance could feel joy. It was pure magic. Nothing beats live shows - the power of dance, made even more impactful after the year we've had!! This is why I love it so much

21.01.2022 What a beautiful autumn day for a tap dance followed by an ice cream on the lake!! Thank you to @ausdanceact for the performance opportunity at @portraitau today for #DanceWeek . Just love performing with my @tapkix crew and so special to have our development team 'Tap Kix Cadettes' perform with us today too (they are growing up so quickly!!). @ National Portrait Gallery

19.01.2022 Sometimes this is purposeful learning and other times, you might just happen to learn things unintentionally along the way.... either way - never stop learning! . Today I am celebrating because I have officially completed my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment! It's taken me 3 attempts to complete this course over the past 3 years so I am so excited to finally have completed this beast! . My plan pre-covid for this year was to take leave from teaching at school so t...hat I could knuckle-down and complete this course and despite everything that's happened, I have still managed to do just that. If nothing else good comes from this year, at least I have accomplished something in the end and have not wasted my time on leave! . In my past attempts, I found I just never had the time to focus on completing it, always put it last on my to-do list. The red tape and RPL requirements from other providers were overwhelming and off-putting too. One time I paid for the entire course and didn't even open up the learning portal once! . I completed my course through Blueprint Career Development and I highly recommend studying through them. They tailor-made my course to suit dance teachers (they've got another course coming up online 21 Sept [hit me up if you want to know more details] and were so helpful every step of the way. Their assessments made sense and were relevant. . I'm excited now to plan for future opportunities that obtaining this qualification will now provide to me and my business - watch this space...... 15.01.2022 Holidays are for organisation!! Cleansed & clean ready for this year - next stop, studio costumes.... again. No one ever told me how never-ending costume cleaning was as a studio owner!! . This was much harder than it looked on @thehomeedit too

15.01.2022 I'm looking forward to a night celebrating the 2020 Roller-coaster with Canberra Women in Business - CWB tonight!!

14.01.2022 It might be too late to get our dancers to nationals but we hope raising awareness around the unique challenges border communities have been facing during covid will prompt government to think about the broader impact of their decisions so this doesn't keep happening. Small businesses and families are suffering while doing the right thing... https://www.canberratimes.com.au//dreams-dashed-as-dancer/

14.01.2022 What a wonderful way to celebrate #internationaldanceday and launch the start of #australiandanceweek - @ausdanceact Dance Week launch at @belcoarts today. Thank you to @adamekc for the recognition in your speech. Your address for #IDD was moving. An exciting week ahead with plenty of dance on the calendar!! It's hard to believe this time last year we were in the middle of lock down, dancing via zoom & stressing about whether our studio would survive - now I'm stressing b...ecause I can't fit all the live performances and events into our calendar again!! Hugely #grateful to be in such a fortunate position compared to many currently. . . . #supportthearts #smallbusiness #danceclasses #danceislife #community #womeninbusiness #canberrabusinesswomen See more

13.01.2022 ADF usually gives me so much inspiration & helps me get through to the end of the year - it's sad missing out this year but will make next year's event even more special!

11.01.2022 Sharing one of my favourite numbers from last night's cabaret show, AMOUR Choreography: Amy Orman

11.01.2022 I love this program and hope that it will help bridge the gap in dance teacher qualifications. It’s also a great way to make the hours students spend in the dance classroom count towards a nationally recognised qualification to help them stand out in their career development, not just in dance but in any workforce. Our industry needs regulation and courses like this are fantastic way to provide quality teaching foundations!

11.01.2022 #tiptuesday What goals have you set for yourself this year? You may have had to re-assess these goal already considering the unprecedented amount of change this year. Focus on the things you can control, rather than what you can't. I've been working through a few courses to really up my skills in business, leadership, marketing and of course, dance! I completed the Youth Protection Advocates in Dance Safety & Wellness certification and I'm about to FINALLY complete my Cert I...V in Training & Assessment. I've completed a bunch of online mini certificates (Keeping Children and Young People Safe, Occupational Violence in the Workplace, Reportable Conduct, Work Health Safety, Harassment and Discrimination, Child Protection & Infection Control Training - COVID 19). I also became an affiliate teacher for @atodofficial and am about to complete a Trello course to learn how to use this better in my business.... I guess I've been keeping busy - I just love learning! What are your goals for the rest of 2020?

11.01.2022 Feeling for my friends, exhausted from fighting this ridiculous fight :( Copied from elsewhere: "Today the State Government announced that School Camps will go ahead regional kids. Great news for camp providers and regional kids. "School camps contribute around $134 million to regional economies each year and employ around 5,500 camp staff." - this is great news for their industry and fabulous for kids.... BUT what about the Dance studios who are employers over 10,000 people AND contribute more than $300million to our economy? (a very conservative estimate) These policy decisions make no sense! How on earth is taking a group of children on camp to another part of the state more "CovidSafe" that a small group of children dancing in a large studio dance space, in their LOCAL area with kids they spend time with at school? Looking forward to your response James Merlino ! We would love to know the reason this is approved by the Chief Health Officer. We are ALL EARS! https://www.facebook.com/JamesMerlinoMP/posts/1810091035833411

10.01.2022 Last night it didn't matter that I didn't win - being named as a Top 3 Finalist for Small Business Women of the Year, I already felt like a winner Why? Because I still have a business!! As I looked around the room at what businesses were present and listened to the challenges/opportunities they faced in 2020 (business was booming for some), it was a good reminder of just how much we've overcome this year. Very few Arts based businesses were present and the live band that p...layed said this was their first gig in 8 months. So the way I see it, all small businesses who are still standing are winners! Deemed ‘non-essential’ we were forced to close Bom Funk's doors in March and by April we hit a 92% reduction of income compared to the previous year. I was determined to continue to provide all of my staff with work, despite only 4 of the 15 qualifying for Job Keeper. We quickly pivoted to an online learning platform. In the space of 2 weeks, we created a brand new members-only website and recorded over 450 dance tutorial videos which were uploaded weekly. We also provided livestreamed dance classes and community events via zoom. Families from around Australia signed up. While the true connection felt in a classroom was missed by many, the online classes provided an important outlet for creativity, exercise, normality and routine. This connection proved vital for the mental health and stability of so many during such difficult times. Being so close to Canberra but having to follow NSW regulations has never been more challenging than in this year. In July, we were allowed to reopen, weeks after Canberra dance studios. And even now, while dance studios in the ACT have returned to business as usual, we are still capped at 20 per class and our hallways, waiting areas and kitchenettes remain closed. The silver lining is that the pandemic has provided me with an opportunity to re-evaluate all of our operations and offerings moving forward. It also made me realise just how essential our non-essential service is to so many people. While my business has survived - many others will not. The Arts is suffering greatly and needs your support!!!! #supporttheArts #supporttheartsinyourcommunity

05.01.2022 It's hard to even process this weekend, it's still so surreal - the sun came out, it warmed up a little & we got to dance.... no, not just dance, but PERFORM!! . I'm exhausted now after going through all the emotions - I'm not going to lie, I was so excited for my dancers to get a performance opportunity but the effort to get myself back into performance mode was a struggle - learning a new spot last minute (because with covid you never know who will be able to dance on the ...day), applying fake tan, wearing a leotard, finding out my eyeliner had dried up since our last show in.... December!!! It all felt like a lot to deal with on top of managing my teams, music, media & covid safety. But the second I applied the last touch of lipstick, I knew that thoughts of retirement were quickly forgotten . I just love dancing with my @tapkix team - they are my second family - & the atmosphere during the whole event was electric, made more special because it was the first time any of us have performed this year. @BomFunkDanceStudio pro/am teams filled with teachers and students really shone and I'm so proud of what we all put together! . Usually this week is one of the busiest in our dance calendar with Limelight, Dancefest & weekend comps all colliding - instead they are all cancelled and we got to focus on just this event. The change of pace has been both a blessing and a burden. . We're very lucky in the ACT with no active cases of covid - our studio faces much stricter restrictions just a few kms away. Even so, event restrictions meant that our performance was also live-streamed to limit the crowd. As the world adapts to accommodate new ways, I felt excited to know that my family, who all live in places we cannot visit due to border restrictions, were able to watch our performance. This was something they wouldn't usually get to see so that too was special. . I know so so many are not this lucky yet and live performances are a long way away - know that we certainly didn't take this opportunity for granted - we danced our hearts! You just never know when the next time will come to stick on false eyelashes and lacquer on the hairspray..... these days @ Canberra, Australian Capital Territory See more

05.01.2022 This is so disappointing to see from such a well known group with a huge fan base. Dancers need to know this not ok!!

03.01.2022 This is great Really clear and helpful information for dance teachers to understand the process & what studio owners are looking for

01.01.2022 Got to take Adam's baby for a spin around town today on the hunt for the perfect venue and locations for some upcoming events - feels uplifting to be even considering performance opportunities, even though they will be very differently run, it brings me hope. Loved having the chance to revisit our wedding reception venue too! What a beautiful day at the 'office!' @ Canberra, Australian Capital Territory
