25.01.2022 Not sure what to do this evening?... Drop into the Fryerstown School for drinks and nibbles (BYO) with friends and neighbours new and old. Please bring your own glasses, etc, and check in on arrival, to help us remain Covid safe. 5:30pm - 7pm. See you there!!

24.01.2022 Hi neighbours and friends... We are planning to hold a Celebration! and Return to Fryerstown School!, pending restrictions being tightened again... More details to follow, but for now a "Save the Date" for the evening of Saturday, 6th February.

23.01.2022 There's a few new folk in town, but it's hard to meet each other at the moment. But that doesn't stop Fryerstown folk. If you see new resident Jason and Leonie, stop and say hello!

23.01.2022 This is usually one of the biggest weeks in the Fryerstown calendar - spring equinox, and our Farewell to Winter community celebration. Although the school cannot open yet for community gatherings, we can look forward to that before too long. In the meantime, enjoy some of these photos from previous Farewell to Winter events (2014-2019). And for newcomers, this is what you've been missing!... Have more photos? Feel free to add your own favourites in the comments.

22.01.2022 Hi all, trialling a little online Friday night drinks, to keep us all connected. I've set up a Zoom meeting (actually 3, as with the free version you can only hold a meeting of 3 or more people for 40mins!) to hold an online space for us. I'm yet to use Zoom, but from my understanding, it's quite easy (relative to your familiarity with tech, I know!!!). If anyone needs some help, comment or message and I'll do my best!!!... You download Zoom (from the app store on your phone, computer?...maybe someone else can let us all know), then enter the meeting number. I think?! Please anyone who has actually used Zoom before correct me if I'm wrong/missing vital info!!!! I've attached a pic with the meeting numbers here, and have set meeting times as 5:30 - 6, 6 - 6:30, 6:30 - 7. I've set them as recurring weekly, for a month or so...We can give it a try, and see how it goes!!! Hope to see some of you there tonight!! Maybe if you're going to give it a try you could comment below, and let us know which time(s) you'll join :)

21.01.2022 Community catch up Zoom drinks - 6-6.45. Every Friday (while restrictions continue). Pop in for a quick hello, or linger for a chat.... https://latrobe.zoom.us/j/99105936305

19.01.2022 Been asked to share this around: The Fryerstown Recreation Reserve (Grace’s Flat) was identified in Mount Alexander Shire Council’s Local Reserves Strategy (2016) as a location for informal recreation with no formal sports activities having occurred there for some years. Mount Alexander Shire Council has identified that the cricket nets at Fryerstown Recreation Reserve have become derelict and are unsafe and a hazard for visitors to the reserve. In order to improve the safety..., amenity and presentation of the reserve Council intends to remove the cricket nets. It is expected that the net and adjoining concrete pad removal will occur in May/June, The site will be restored to match the surrounding landscape. Any enquiries on this matter please call Mount Alexander Shire Council Active Communities Team on (03) 5471 1700.

18.01.2022 Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) and Country Fire Authority (CFA) advise that the Drummond North - Wattle Tk planned burn, located at 5km E of Glenluce will be ignited at any time within the next 24 hours if weather and other conditions are suitable.

17.01.2022 Friday night drinks starting online now....enter the Zoom code for the 5:30-6 session to join in... Hoping this code will work for anytime until 7pm - Zoom seems to have given us access to hold longer sessions. So try this code first, then if that doesn't work, try the code for the time you're logging on!! Message if you're having trouble, and we'll do our best to help!! Happy Easter everyone. 14.01.2022 Re fryerstown oval Thanks to those who managed the Zoom (Nick, Michele, Haridas, Steph) and apologies to any who couldn't get the link. We have named our loose group Fryerstown Community Oval Action Group (Fryerstown COAG).... Latest update - Mayor Christine Henderson and others have responded to some resident emails. The removal of nets won't be going ahead at this point, while community responds. - Emails in support of retaining the oval are definitely useful, both from individuals and organisations. Key contacts are Cath Olive at shire [[email protected]] and Christine Henderson [[email protected]]. - Cr John Nieman made an unofficial visit to see the oval, and Nick and Billy were using the cricket nets at the time, so had a good chat demonstrating community use COAG actions - We will hold a Working Bee 11-1 Sunday 14 June to tackle weeds, unwanted growth etc. This will be followed by chat over lunch to discuss further action, plans, jobs and ideas. - Feel free to share your ideas, photos and stories of the oval on this page and let us know if you're happy to have them used in lobbying and publicity. The more people and different uses, the stronger our case for support.

14.01.2022 Hi good people of Fryerstown, (although this applies to everyone!) Recently we were called out to an illegal burn-off in Fryerstown. It was lit on a nice cool d...ay and put out before we got there. The fact is that it was lit during the fire danger period and NOT OK. We are experiencing cooler and wetter than usual conditions but this is not an opportunity to burn off all that wonderful fire clearing you are doing. The weather can change quickly and we can experience fire conditions once more. Burning off during the FDP disrupts our firies (who have to respond), alarms and upsets neighbours and risks folks getting a massive fine for lighting fires during the FDP. Below is a photo of an escaped burn-off during an FDP in October. Don't get caught out and wait until the end of the fire season. Kind regards, Hamish MacCallum, Fryerstown CFA Captain. See more

All welcome.

10.01.2022 Up goes the bonfire. The community farewelling winter at the Old Fryerstown School in 2017. A much loved local ritual, missing this year, but bring on 2021!

06.01.2022 Dear Fryerstown community, family, friends. In these times of such uncertainty we need to look out for each other, and come together (not in person, but in spirit!). Yesterday the Fryerstown School committee held a special meeting to look at what we can do to support our wonderful community at this time. ... It was with sadness and regret that we all agreed we must for now postpone Friday night drinks, Book club and community lunches. Although our gatherings are under the current numbers allowed, there are a lot of people in our community who fall into one or more of the high risk categories for Covid19. We want to be proactive about keeping those people, and everyone in our community, safe and healthy. We will also be setting up an event page that can be used to ask for or offer help or supplies. There are other resources already doing this in the wider community - we will add details of this in the event discussion. We also offer the Fryerstown School verandah as a drop off and pick up point for goods. If you are sick/in isolation/with limited mobility or transport and need supplies, please include this in your call out. And if you are well and able, please help those who need it by offering to deliver if you can. As you all know, things are changing very rapidly at the moment, so we will keep you updated if our response changes. And also to let you know when we will be resuming our regular schedule of events. We will also be thinking about how else we might support all of us through this time. If you have any ideas you'd like to see, send us a message and we'll see what we can do. And once this madness is all over we'll have a big celebration, because you all make this a great little place to call home!! Look after yourselves and your loved ones.

06.01.2022 Join us and bring a yellow flower to show your support for climate justice and a renewable led recovery!!
