We'll maintain the smaller groups in the Club sessions as we feel it is greater value to our members with more hands on coaching to ensure our members longterm development. ... . The current programs have been designed to ease everyone back into the gym and focus on technique and work capacity using limited equipment, we will begin to increase difficulty and use of more equipment over the next few training cycles. . 22.01.2022 DON'T OVERSTRAIN WHEN YOU CAN GET MAD GAINS!! Make sustainable progress with our 2021 Kids and Youth Program this term 1! There is also currently an epidemic of early sports specialisation. Parents are sold the idea that their kids must do all this extra training to stay in front of the competition and succeed in their sport. They use people like Tiger Woods as examples of success stories, however these individuals are exceptions, not the rule. Competing in one sport year-rou...nd can lead to chronic overuse injuries and burnout. This can be somewhat combatted by exposing themselves to different movements ie. Playing multiple sports and increasing strength and resiliency in the gym. In fact, the large majority of professional athletes were multisport athletes growing up. For example, Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, Tom Brady, Nic Natanui, Patty Mills, Scott Pendlebury and the list could go on and on. These individuals have the ability to take skills from each sport, as well as having a robust movement vocabulary from being exposed to different environments. 22.01.2022 Neck training? - Neck training isnt exactly common. It doesnt make you look better in bathers & a jacked neck isnt exactly what we strive for, so whats the point? In 2015, WWE wrestler TJ Wilson was dropped on the top of his head during a match, rupturing the ligament holding his C2 disc in place, doing severe damage to his spinal cord, an injury that paralyses ~95% of people and it temporarily paralysed him. The surgeon attributed Wilsons unfathomable recovery (and s...urvival) to the immense amount of muscle mass in his neck. He was back walking and training by the following year Thats an extreme example, but how does it relate to you? Well a Finnish University study found that over half of us suffer neck pain in our lifetime. WFH home anyone?! The same study concluded that an almost complete reduction in pain is possible by adding some form of neck training to an exercise program, over an extended period. It also increased neck range of motion by 75%. 19.01.2022 GYM CLOSED FROM THE 1ST OF FEBRUARY TO THE 5TH OF FEBRUARY ~~ Updates to opening hours pending ~~ Recent updates regarding the current Covid-19 situation from Western Australian State Premier, Mark McGowan, have called for an emergency lockdown effective from 1800 hours on Sunday the 31st of January to 1800 hours on Friday the 5th of February.... In line with these new restrictions, the gym will be closed for the duration of lockdown, with our opening hours updated should conditions change. BUT... Just as Mr McGowan has prepared the state for a new outbreak, we have too!!! You can still train from the comfort and safety of your home with our online programs! 14.01.2022 Build STRENGTH, build POWER, build up our next generation!!! Formidable Strength and Conditioning is still accepting kids and youth for our Term 1 Kids and Youth Programs! These programs will run all the way through term 1 from the 1st of February to the 1st of April!... The research shows that resistance training can help improve bone mineral density (BMD), which is critical in this stage of a kid’s development as this is when they are able to make the biggest changes and be resistant against issues down the track such as osteoporosis. Furthermore, resistance training is great for helping to build lean body mass and keeping non-lean body mass at healthy levels. Resistance training and exercise in general has also shown to have a positive impact on brain development as well as improving their movement control! 11.01.2022 CONSTRAINTS (pt 1) A constraint is simply a limitation or restriction. And in the context of training, it's specifically looking at movement constraints. . There are 2 types of constraints we incorporate in to training ... . . 1. Literal Constraints - Like box jumps. You have to jump high enough to land on the box . 2. Technical Constraints - Like measuring ground contact time (GCT). " GCT must be below X seconds" . Constraints simply act as guide rails as to how a movement should be performed. 08.01.2022 Well done to all of our Youth Program Participants! We've had a fantastic term 4 of Youth and Kids' programs being run throughout the end of the year! There was a mass amount of effort put in by each and every member and it was great seeing how much everyone has improved since the start of term. A few youth members deserve a special shout out for their exemplary performance throughout the term!... Congratulations to James Dawson (1), who won a Formidable Strength and Conditioning shirt for all of his efforts! Despite breaking his wrist and being unable to do some of the exercises, we modified the program so he could still take part, came to just about every session besides the couple after breaking his wrist. Improved his strength and coordination even with a dodgy wrist. Paddy (2) received his T-shirt for being super consistent and great improvement throughout the term, cranked out 33 straight push ups and 38 straight inverted rows with good technique this week. Jack (3) from our Freo gym was awarded our Freo youth program participant of the year. Jack was chosen due to his significant improvement in attitude, focus and of course strength over the last 2 terms. Jack didn’t miss a session and thus reaped the rewards with phenomenal improvements across the board. Jack is the very definition of you get out what you put in. Well done, boys! We look forward to a new and improved term with all of you and the rest of the Formidable Strength team!

08.01.2022 Constraints (Part 2). . Here's how we make you learn, without you realising your learning . . Movement constraint = when the body self organises to achieve the desired outcome/goal, ie. figures out the best way to do it. ... . The less we can coach, the better. It sounds lazy, but by giving instructions and making you think about what you're doing, this often slows down the learning process. So we use external cues to do the training for us . For example, if we want you to have a long penultimate step we could either tell you to extend the stride (internal cue) or put cones out which you need to get over (external cue). The cone guarantees a long penultimate step and you don't consciously think about doing it. The body self organises and learns the best way to complete the task. .
