11.01.2022 HOW TO MAKE THE MOST MONEY FROM YOUR SCRAP? What you'll need: A Magnet Containers or storage to separate your grades.... Where can you find Scrap Metal?: - Almost anywhere, but let's start at home. A lot of people throw away valuable scrap not knowing its worth or just how much our planet would thank us if we all recycled. Collecting/ Sorting: The following is important, knowing how to separate your metals will ensure that you get the most money possible for your load (which we are also happy to help with enquires). Here are a few basic tips: Put each type of metal in its own container. This makes it easier once you get to our yard. The other reason being is that this will ensure that you are paid the best prices for the grades of metals you have. Clean your scrap. This does not mean washing your scrap with soap. Clean scrap means that there are no extra attachments on the metal you are cashing in. For example if your scrap metal is contaminated with say plastic the value will decrease. Keep your scrap safe. Scrap metal is often stolen from business, construction sites, and homes. Keep your collection in a safe place. How can you tell the difference?: Here is where your magnet will come in for the items you are unsure of, use this to sort between ferrous and non- ferrous metals. The magnet will stick to ferrous metals such as steel. These are some common items: Copper can be found in pipes, décor items, cookware, electronic wiring and more. However, since some copper is covered by other elements, such as paint or insulation, you need to know that bare copper brings in a bit more money than the other forms. Steel is one of the most recyclable metals in the world due to its high reuse in manufacturing. Vehicles, shelving, cables and other elements are place where you can find this metal. Stainless Steel can be both magnetic and non-magnetic depending upon its grade. Household items that contain this metal include appliances, sinks, countertops, trays and possibly bakeware. Aluminium is a lightweight metal that is another commonly recycled metal. The largest source for this metal is your soda cans, but you also can find it in window and door frames, parts of air conditioning units, aluminium cookware and some appliances may contain this metal. Lead is a toxic heavy metal that is recyclable. It comes in vehicle batteries and old plumbing along with other elements. Brass can be found in door knobs, hinges, tapware and light fixtures, these are just some of the household goods that are a source for this metal. Now that you have gotten this far, where to take it to cash in? Full Scale Metal Traders is a family owned and operated business right here in the Lockyer Valley. Located at 5 Industrial Road Gatton and we look forward to seeing you soon!!!
