01.01.2022 We all know about the sugar in cakes, cordials, ice cream and biscuits but food manufacturers cleverly hide it in seemingly healthy foods like muesli bars, flavoured yoghurts, dried fruit, pasta sauces, tinned soups, salad dressings, tomato and barbecue sauces and marinades. Figures show that the average Australian is consuming 14 teaspoons of sugar a day, a whole lot more than the maximum six teaspoons a day recommended by the WHO. To find out how much hidden sugar youre consuming, check the sugar content on the label. You can turn it into teaspoons by dividing the number of grams by 4 as one teaspoon of sugar is equal to 4 grams. So, for example if the label says 10g, this equates to 2.5 teaspoons of sugar.
